God's Stewards Are Served and Serving What does this mean? God's stewards recognize that their stewardship involves a Gospel-powered style of life which is demonstrated in servanthood within all the arenas of life. What does God's Word say about this? Philippians 2:5-8 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus, who being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and become obedient to death-death on a cross! Matthew 20:26b-28 Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave-just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. John 13:3-5;15-17 Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples' feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell you the truth, no servant is greater that his, master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. How is this done? As children of God through faith in Jesus Christ, and with the Holy Spirit's help, we will: Recognize that the service done for the benefit of the community and world is also a part of Christian stewardship Emphasize that just as Jesus came to serve, stewards are privileged to serve others through their abilities and resources; and Adopt the attitude of a servant in all our relationships with others. As children of God through faith in Jesus Christ, and with the Holy Spirit's help, we will not: Set aside servanthood for the sake of merely reaching an organizational goal; Fail to encourage stewards to be God's servants in and decision or action; or Fail to challenge stewards to serve the Lord with personal acts of compassion and service as well as financial gifts. How to Read and Study the Holy Bible Pray Speak, Lord, for Your servant hears. Please show me now Your ways, That I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the Law, but that which comes through faith in Christ Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Give me life, O Lord, according to Your Word, Remember 1 Samuel 3:9; the Lord speaks to us through His word. Exodus 33:13; the Lord speaks to us in two basic ways: Law and Gospel Philippians 3:8-9; Scripture teaches us about Christ and His righteousness. Psalm 119:105, 107; Scripture faithfully guides our lives. Psalm 145:6; Scripture leads us to declare the And I will declare Your greatness. Amen. Lord's ways to others. 1 Engelbrecht, E. A. (2009). A Note From St. Paul's Principal; Dr. Larry Wooster January 2015 St. Paul’s Lutheran School Notes Last month I wished you a Happy New Year based on the beginning of another church year. This month I wish you a Happy New Year based on the calendar year. God richly blessed us during 2015 and He promises to continue blessing us in 2016. We begin this year with the Epiphany celebration. Epiphany means to reveal something. We certainly pray that all of our students will grow in their faith as Jesus is revealed to them in God’s Word. Since last month’s newsletter we were privileged to sing for the first midweek Advent service, we presented our annual Christmas service, we sang at the nursing home, and we ended the semester with our Christmas parties. It has been a very busy month. We thank all who supported the ministry of St. Paul’s. The Lord is present and working through His Word as He has promised. As we begin a new calendar year, including the second semester of our current school year, we count on God’s gracious presence. We also count on your prayers and support. January is typically a month where we can accomplish a great deal. We plan on wrapping up January with our celebration of National Lutheran School’s Week January 25-31, including Jump Rope for Heart on Friday, January 29. Our students will sing for church on January 31. We are also beginning to think about and plan for our Science Exposition on March 18 and our spring musical on April 22. In the mean time, we pray that each of you had a most blessed Christmas and that your 2016 is blessed as well. Please note the important dates listed below. We invite you to participate in your mission: the school. Even if you don’t have a child or grandchild in school you can still be a part of it all by attending school events and by keeping the work of the school in your prayers. That is the single biggest support we need. May God continue to bless you, our congregation, and our school today and as we move forward. Important upcoming dates: December 21-January 3 Christmas Break January 4 School Resumes January 8 Second Quarter Report Cards will be sent home January 25-31 National Lutheran Schools Week January 29 Jump Rope for Heart January 31 Students sing in church for National Lutheran Schools Sunday February 3 100th Day of School Celebration (if the weather cooperates) February 8-11 Parent Teacher Conferences February 12 No School March 18 Science Exposition April 22 Spring Musical CIRCLE/LWML NEWS HAPPY NEW YEAR! Our December Christmas party was a huge success! The fellowship was wonderful, the sing-a-long was enjoyed by all! As usual, the food was plentiful and so good! There was no business meeting......so......no business to pass on. We hope each one of you was able to spend a joyous Christmas with family and friends and were able to attend church on Christmas, to once again celebrate the birth of the Baby Jesus. Hopefully, some of you were able to attend Christmas Eve service here at St. Paul’s – the church was packed! The children did a wonderful job with their singing and readings. I’m sure everyone left that service feeling the joy of the Christ child in his heart! How blessed we are to know Him! We enter 2016 with apprehension; there is much unrest throughout our country and the world. We pray that God will guide our government, protect our country and those defending it. We also pray that He will keep our church leaders strong and keep us in our faith should we be tested. The bright side is that with a New Year comes new families (we see some in church), new projects, clearing out the old junk, and plans to make things better in any way we can! St. Paul’s Circle and all LWML ladies wish each of you and happy and blessed New Year! TIE THE KNOT will be meeting in the church basement, at 1:00 p.m.., January 5 and January 19. Those are the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month. Come join us – it’s fun and a very worthwhile project! So until next month...... Take care and God bless, Dorothy 10 Things Jesus NEVER Said 1.) You're too far gone to be saved. 2.) I'm so disappointed in you. 3.) This wouldn't be happening if you were a better Christian. 4.) It's okay to not love certain people. 5.) Everyone should believe and act like you do. 6.) It's all up to you. 7.) You don't have to forgive someone who really hurt you. 8.) You missed My will for your life. 9.) I've given up on you. 10.) This is a cross you must bear alone. *SCRIP is Fundraising While You Shop? *That it costs you nothing - zero, zip, zilch, nada. *That SCRIP could be the way to financially support St. Paul's School - again, at no cost to you! By simply planning ahead on everyday purchases (seriously this takes only a minute or two), the dollars can add up quickly. It’s easy for each household to earn $500 - $1,000 in a year, and many families earn much more! The more families participating, the bigger the earnings for St. Paul's! Folks this is FREE MONEY from companies who want to accumulate charitable giving! This is not too good to be true! It is not a "free lunch", we will not be "taken to the cleaners" and Great Lakes Scrip is not a "fly-by-night" company. We all buy groceries, gas and household items! Safeway and Sun Mart give back 5% of every purchase you make. That's $5 for every $100!! Come to the office or register online. I personally print off an egift card when I go to Wal-Mart in any $10 denomination I want. We have trained the cashiers how to take the gift card. It could not be more simple to get money to support our mission! We would all like the financial burden to be lightened - this is the way to do it without knocking on doors for donations, or reaching into our own pockets or hosting twelve fundraising events every year. Simply use SCRIP cards to make the purchases you are already making! You are already spending the money at these stores - why not let them give back to us?
