Traveling to Maui
 We used Hawaiian Condo Rentals 360-652-9024.
Pennie Hunt, the owner does only condos and only in
Hawaii. She has many properties to select from. She
can also book your air and get exceptional rates on
rental car.
 While condos tend to be more expensive than many
hotels, the money you save by not dining out every
meal more than makes up the difference. Most condos
have BBQs on site.
 Although I used Pennie for Condo and Car I found
that booking air travel through Priceline was far
cheaper than the rates she could get.

Rental Information
 Based on Pick up at 9:00 A.M. and return on 5:00 P.M.
the following day. Full Size motorcycle.
 Hog Fly and Ride $120. Insurance provided by
HOG.(recommended) No helmet provided
 Cycle City Harley dealer - $331-$443 – Includes helmet
and 24 hour roadside assistance & short term luggage
storage. They also allow you to leave your car there.
 Eagle Rider $298
Other things to consider
 While most large complexes and resorts have no
problem with them, some of the smaller properties do
not allow motorcycles on the property.
 The police work radar “HEAVILY” around Lahaina.
 HOG Fly and Ride seems to change where bikes are to
be picked up. Some times they direct you to the small
rental shop in Lahaina.
 The locals have a reputation for doing everything
slowly. The exception is driving. Be cautious.
Cycle City - Kahului
What to Take for Riding
 Jeans or chaps
 Boots(I used running shoes – shame on me)
 Helmet. Although there is no requirement to wear a
helmet on Maui, the dealer and HOG will require you
to have one when you leave the lot.
 Outerwear. You see anything from bare chests to
leather coats on riders.
 Sunglasses
 Take “LOTS” of water on your rides. There are not a
lot of places to buy it once you leave town.
Map of Maui
Road to Hana
Paia is a small town at the start of the Road to Hana.
Be prepared for traffic congestion for ½ mile
Start of Hana Road
First of many one lane bridges on
switchback turns
Wife, Cathy & I along the way
One of many falls & pools along
the route. Most require a short
hike.
Examples of Jungle Foliage
Taro fields at Keane
Softball size tree ripe Hass
avocados for 25 cents at honor
stand
Hana Bay Park
Hana Bay
Hasegawa’s General Store
Lunch – Hana Ranch
 Across the street from The General store is a very nice
restaurant with an outdoor takeout window and eating
area. The food is excellent and very reasonably priced
with both local food and hamburgers.
 Hana Ranch restaurant is located at 5031 Hana Hwy
which is the main road and can’t be missed.
Seven Sacred Pools
Start of unpaved road past Hana
Typical unpaved road. All lava
Now to the North Coast
North Coast & Ioa Valley
Riding around the North end of
Maui
 Start in Lahaina and head north past Kapalua.
Lahaina is the last chance for gas for about 50 miles.
 This route has about 10 miles of one lane road with few
turnouts.
 The route goes all the way around the north end finally
arriving in Wailuku where there are other attractions.
Wailuku is the county seat and is within a few miles of
Kahalui.
Good Eats on This Ride
 I highly recommend stopping at Napili Shores for
breakfast at the Gazebo Café. This great eatery is
located right on the water at 5315 Lower Honopolani
Road. Breakfast will be between $10-$20 dollars but
will be hearty and very filling.
Dinner
 At the end of this ride you will be just a few miles from
a great place to have dinner.
 Marcos Grill and Deli located at Dairy Road and Hana
Hwy. Wide variety of choices specializing in Italian
cuisine.
Typical terrain. This is cattle
country.
.
.
Lots of curvy roads fun curves until
the state highway ends
More curves
You can see the road wind along
the cliffs
The road follows the coastline
most of the way
Village along the north coast
Blow hole. Short hike down to a
great show
The road begins to narrow
Bottom of the first hill
Iao Peak Park. Lots of pretty hikes
Touristy but interesting
Moose McGullicuty’s. A great
lunch place back in Lahaina. HOG
hangout.
Next ride is to Kula
Kula & Winery
Kula and Haleakala
 If you go early, I suggest a sweatshirt or jacket as it is
up country and chilly in the mornings.
 If you go up Mt Haleakala you would also benefit from
some gloves. Temperatures in the 30’s and 40’s are
common near the top.
 This is a nice ride for the day you have to turn in the
bike. It is shorter, better roads and ends right in
Kahalui.
Miles of cairns instead of wire to
keep the cattle in.
This is farm country where most all
of the produce and Maui Sweets
come from.
Maui Winery. Some very good
wines. Ten years ago they were
not. Beautiful grounds.
Plants at winery
Protea farm on road to Haleakala
And back to the Dealer.
Other Places to ride
Makena – Makawao - Kihei
Other suggestion While visiting
Maui
 Warren and Annabelle's located in Lahaina – A great
dinner and magic show. $94 for both or $54 for just
the show. Be sure to make reservations well in advance
of your travel date. www.warrenandannabelles.com
 Any number of snorkeling trips are available for
around $50 per person with all gear included.
 For a real treat try a full day sailboat trip to Lanai on
the Trilogy boats. Sailtrilogy.com
 Old Lahaina Luau
 Zip Lines
I hope you enjoyed the
presentation as much as I enjoyed
the rides.
