2017 TRAVEL PLANNER
OVER 25 YEARS IN EXPEDITION TRAVEL
Dear Adventurer,
It is with great excitement that I present you with our 2017
Travel Planner! I have spent the last 18 months talking
with many of our travelers to ensure we are delivering
the best possible expedition experience. In response to
the feedback I have received, we have put together an
intriguing line-up of small-ship cruises and overland
adventures for 2017—including 10 itineraries that are
brand new to Zegrahm. Here are a few of the reasons
I am so excited to share this planner with you:
• Innovative Itineraries: While I am inspired by each of
the 35 unique adventures for 2017, there are some that
I think will be of particular interest to you. Underwater
enthusiasts will want to check out our new Ultimate
Maldives: A Snorkeling & Diving Adventure that
showcases this pelagic paradise in the company of
Brad Climpson and Mike Murphy. And, our two-part
Baltic Odyssey and Discovering the New World
itineraries can be taken in combination to give you
a full immersion into the regions they visit, or taken
individually if you are craving adventure, but don’t
have as much time to spare.
• State-of-the-Art Expedition Vessels: A hallmark of
Zegrahm has always been chartering a variety of vessels—
this way we can explore any given destination at the
optimal time of year, on a ship that is right for that
UHJLRQ2XUÁHHWLQLVQRH[FHSWLRQ,QDGGLWLRQ
to chartering guest favorites like the Isabela II in the
Galápagos and the beautiful sailing ship, Le Ponant,
for our new 14-day Cuba Under Sail program, we have
added a few new vessels. The 100-guest Hebridean Sky
will join sister ships, Island Sky and Caledonian Sky.
And, the Ocean Diamond and Coral Discoverer—both
of which are undergoing refurbishment—will be in
tip-top condition in time for our 2017 season.
• More Options for Exploration: In collaboration
with our sister company, Travcoa, we have added four
departures to round out our 2016 schedule. Plus, look
for some exciting options from Quark Expeditions and
International Expeditions at the back of this planner,
as well.
• No Single Supplement: Our commitment to solo
travelers is as strong as ever and to that end we are
pleased to offer no single supplement on 10
small-ship cruises.
• Early Booking Savings: And last, but certainly not
least, we know you are looking far into the future to
plan your adventures; as a reward for your proactive
planning, I am pleased to offer Early Booking Savings
on select expeditions! Book by January 31, 2016 and
receive 5% off the published rate. Past guests of Zegrahm
will enjoy an additional 5% savings. You can view
qualifying expeditions on the last page of this planner.
We look forward to traveling with you in 2017 and beyond!
Warm regards,
Edwin Blythe

FIVE ‘STANS
Overland Adventure
Overland Adventure
February 2017
As Cuba opens its doors to the
world, discover centuries of cultural
heritage and countless natural
treasures—from pristine Caribbean
wetlands to lush mountaintop forests.
This popular expedition showcases
four World Heritage Sites and two Biosphere Reserves, offering the
chance to explore tidy colonial towns unchanged by modernity,
search for endemic avian species that grace the tropical landscapes,
and walk on the shores of historic Playa Girón. Throughout you
will meet the hospitable Cuban people—artists and musicians,
farmers and new entrepreneurs—whose highly personal insights
bring to life the history and traditions of this fascinating, and
multi-faceted, island nation.
The “Five ’Stans” possess vast and
varied scenery ranging from the
river-studded plateau steppes of
Kazakhstan and the snowcapped and
lushly vegetated mountain ranges
in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, to the rushing rivers and silvery lakes
in Uzbekistan and the wide expanse of Turkmenistan’s Karakum
Desert. Admire the magnificent domes and turquoise spires of
Registan Square, the heart of ancient Samarkand, and view the
Bibi Khanym Mosque, built by Tamarlane in the 14th century.
Spend two full days in the Silk Road trading city of Bukhara, now
considered Central Asia’s religious capital, and explore bustling
markets and bazaars, overflowing with exotic foods and colorful
produce, spices, jewelry, pashminas, knives, and hand-woven carpets.

Explore India’s remote Nagaland, a
narrow strip of mountainous territory
in the northeast, with rugged hills,
emerald valleys, sparkling streams,
and a rich variety of flora and fauna.
Here you will find the indigenous
Naga culture, which dates back to the early 13th century. A funloving people, the Naga celebrate numerous festivals throughout
the year; however, the week-long Hornbill Festival, known locally
as the “festival of festivals,” is the largest and most extravagant.
Showcasing Naga dance, music, costumes, art, ethnic foods, and
handicrafts, you will also have the opportunity to visit traditional
huts, interact with friendly locals, and perhaps take part in one
of the many unique contests of strength and agility.
