To whom it may concern,
Jim & Michele Stokley started Rogers Bayfest in 1999 as a non-profit organization
with all proceeds going back into our community. Beginning as a single performance
and has since grown to a multiple day event. It also provides opportunities for local
charities and not-for-profit organizations to raise awareness and funds. Heading into
our 14th year Bayfest Festival of Performing Arts dedicates itself to promote,
preserve and perpetuate arts and cultural activities in the Sarnia-Lambton Area.
In 2009 to celebrate Jim Stokley’s life, Bayfest Festival of Performing Arts created a
new scholarship in his honour; The Jim Stokley Scholarship. Rogers Bayfest has
won the “Best Fundraising Award” for the “Yellow Hat Campaign” in 2010 from
Festival and Events Ontario. Since 2009 Bayfest Festival has raised nearly
$400,000, going towards the Scholarship with all money in trusted to Lambton
College.
The scholarship will be awarded annually to post secondary students in the Sarnia
area who have demonstrated involvement in the community, and who show the
same characteristics Jim himself valued. It will not simply go to the best student, but
the one with the biggest heart.
