Parent Share: I want my children to grow up respecting
other people. How can I do that?
Parents have an awesome responsibility to instill Gospel
values in their children. One of the central values that we
want our children to embrace is the notion of respecting the
dignity of others. Here are a few suggestions to accomplish
this…
x Monitor your children’s use of media – music, TV,
video games, Internet – to be sure that they are being
exposed to values that are in line with the Gospel.
x If your child does something disrespectful, be sure to
correct it and to point out a preferred way of acting.
x With your child, read the parable of the Good
Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37) and talk about how the
Samaritan showed respect for his neighbor.

Loyola Press, 2014

RCIA
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the
communal process of spiritual and educational formation
through which adults explore the Catholic Faith and become
fully initiated members of the Roman Catholic Church.
Have you:
…never been baptized?
…been baptized into another faith?
…been baptized and are seeking more formation?
…been interested in learning about the Catholic Faith?
Then the RCIA might be for YOU!

Adult Confirmation Program
Holy Family Parish will be hosting the Archdiocesan Adult
Confirmation Program for Westchester Parishes. The program
is designed for practicing adult Catholics (age 18+) seeking
the Sacrament of Confirmation. They must be baptized, have
received their first Holy Communion and have been educated
in the Catholic faith through Catholic schools or religious
education programs. This program is NOT for adults who are
unbaptized or baptized but uncatechized (not practicing
Catholics) who would benefit from participation in their parish
RCIA process. Their pastor’s permission is required to
participate in this program. Sessions will begin here at Holy
Family on Tuesday, October 18th in Room 28 in the School
(Second Floor) from 7:30 – 9PM and will continue on
Tuesday evenings through Tuesday, December 6th. The
Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated in Holy Family
Church on Tuesday, December 13, 2016.

Faith Book: 28th SUNDAY -C- OCTOBER 9, 2016
2 Kings 5: 14-17; Psalm 98; 2 Timothy 2: 8-13; Luke
17:11-19
From today’s Gospel reading:
And one of [the lepers], realizing he had been healed, returned
glorifying God in a loud voice, and he fell at the feet of Jesus
and thanked Him.
Reflection:
If, like that leper, we realize as we travel through life, that God
has spontaneously reached out with healing and forgiveness
and has raised us to the dignity of children in God’s household
– and indeed that has already happened – what other prayer
need we say but, "Thank you"?
So we ask ourselves:
x Can we name a moment when we felt like an outsider
and experienced Jesus’ healing words?
x Is that something we need to give thanks for?
x In turn, who are the outsiders whom we must
welcome into our lieves and our community?

Did you know?
St. Teresa of Ávila, (also known as
Saint Teresa of Jesus) was born March 28, 1515. She was a
prominent Spanish mystic, Carmelite nun and author during
the Counter Reformation, and a theologian of contemplative life
through mental prayer. She was a reformer in the Carmelite
Order of her time and the movement she initiated, later joined
by Saint John of the Cross, eventually led to the establishment of
the Discalced Carmelites (though neither she nor Saint John
were alive when the two orders separated.)
Teresa died October 4, 1582 and was canonized by Pope
Gregory XV forty years after her death. On September 27,
1970 she was named a Doctor of the Church by Pope Paul
VI. Her books, which include her autobiography The Life of
Teresa of Jesus and her seminal work The Interior Castle, are
an integral part of Spanish Renaissance literature as well
as Christian mysticism and Christian meditation practices. Her
feast day is October 15th and she is the patron saint of
headache sufferers.
Let nothing disturb you.
Let nothing make you afraid.
All things are passing.
God alone never changes.
Patience gains all things.
If you have God you will want for nothing.
God alone suffices.
