Retaining and Credit Earned
In June, counselors will review student records to determine the amount of credit
earned in the 2010-2011 school year. If your student has earned enough credit, he/
she will be promoted to the next grade. If your student has not met the requirements
to be promoted to the next grade, he/she will be retained and will remain classified
at their current grade level. Retaining is meant to provide an incentive for your
child to improve his/her achievement and/or attendance while at Poudre High
School.

May 2012
Grade Level Classification Policy
TO EARN SOPHOMORE (10th grade) STATUS: A student must have
earned a minimum of 60 credits. A student earning less than 60 credits will
remain a freshman for records purpose.
TO EARN JUNIOR (11th grade) STATUS: A student must have earned
a minimum of 110 credits. A student earning less than 110 credits will
remain a sophomore for records purposes.
TO EARN SENIOR (12th grade) STATUS: A student must have earned
a minimum of 165 credits. A student earning less than 165 credits will
remain a junior for records purposes.
NOTE: To participate in their graduation ceremony, seniors MUST meet
ALL graduation requirements BEFORE THE DATE OF THE
GRADUATION CEREMONY. If after the first semester a senior has been
found to have too few credits to meet all graduation requirements before the
date of the graduation ceremony, he/she will be reclassified as a junior (11th
grade).
NOTE: If your student is supposed to be a 12th grader and is retained as an
11th grader, you need to be aware of the possible ramifications listed below:
Your student probably will not:
·Be able to graduate on time.
·Be included in the senior picture.
·Be included in the senior portion of the yearbook.
HOW WILL I KNOW IF MY STUDENT HAS BEEN RETAINED,
AND WHAT SHOULD BE DONE IF THEY ARE?
If your student is retained, you will be notified in writing this summer. If
you suspect now that they will be retained, contact your student's counselor
before the end of school to determine the best course of action. We
STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you look into summer school and enroll
before the end of this school year. If your student earns enough credit in
summer school to be promoted to the next grade level, his/her records will be
changed during the fall of next year. Students should contact their counselor
in early August to check his/her status. Summer school information is
available in the Counseling Office.

The Poudre high School Foundation invites you to be a part of the exciting Riverwalk Project by giving a brick paver that will serve as a lasting
statement about Poudre High School and the people that have been part of
the “Impala Spirit”. Your donation of $100 secures your paver with about
two-thirds of the cost going to the Poudre High School Foundation endowment program. Interest on the fund is returned each year to special emphasis projects, which are not funded with normal tax revenues and budgets.
The Riverwalk creates a dramatic area near the main entrance of Poudre
High School. The project includes a functional space for reflecting on
Poudre’s tradition, has ties to the people who have been part of the past
and present, and provides an on-going source of funds for the Poudre High
