Wednesday 3rd August, 9.30pm Fureys, Bridge Street Peter Butler Peter Butler is a singer songwriter based in Sligo. Peter's influences include John Lennon, Velvet Underground and The Doors. Peter can be seen playing around Sligo with the band "The Katonahs". Go see this unique artist as he embarks on his journey to spread his musical message of "peace and love" to the world. Wednesday 3rd August 9.30pm Glasshouse, Hyde Bridge Own A Chord A male voice harmony quartet, Own A Chord’s repertoire includes many contemporary a cappella arrangements which are fun to sing. They have performed on radio shows, at weddings, corporate events, parties and in numerous pubs around Sligo. The group comprises Liam Cunningham, Micki Murray, Tommie Bree and John McHugh, directed by Cass Smith. Wednesday 3rd August 10pm Foleys, Castle Street Twoplay Eddie Lynch (piano), and Eddie Mc Farlane (guitar) have Played on the jazz scene in the North West for years. Both hail from Donegal and have played together in various formats. This includes their well known residency in Sligo where visiting musicians such as Louis Stewart, Mike Neilsen, Richie and Michael Buckley have joined them on stage. 4 Thursday 4th August, 1pm Creperie Bretonne, Teeling Street Dave Flynn Wexfordman Dave is becoming a regular face on Sligo's music scene, having moved here last May. You can see him elsewhere in the festival playing some Blues and Jazz, but today he will be playing acoustic arrangements of some of his favourite songs, possibly even throwing some of his own tunes into the mix. Wednesday 3rd August 10pm Shoot The Crows, Castle Street No Crows No Crows is a quartet of fine musicians based in Sligo, Ireland. Felip Carbonell (an “exceptional Mallorcan guitarist” – Irish Times) is joined by Steve Wickham of 'The Waterboys' with his energetic fiddle style, Swiss musician Anna Houston's soulful cello and mandolin playing and Sligoman Eddie Lee on double bass. Their repertoire is truly global, their music ranging from Irish traditional to classical and gypsy swing. Thursday 4th August, 8pm Sligo Methodist Church Yeats International Summer School Presents: Reading by Paul Muldoon Paul Muldoon the contemporary Irish poet from Northern Ireland has published over 30 collections and won a Pulitzer Prize for Poetry and the T. S. Eliot Prize. Wednesday 3rd August, 11pm The Clarence, Wine Street Ladies Night – R N’ B Every wednesday the Clarence bring us a night of RnB with some urban hits thrown in. The one thing that matters most to Tabby is his music, with twists of Hendrix meets Bowie and a hefty tablespoon of Prince flavoured vibes. Thursday 4th August, 9.30pm Fureys, Bridge Street Decoy Decoy are an up & coming band made up of Singer/songwriter Mandy Wheeler Joined by Sarah Scanlon on percussion and Danny Thompson on bass, this trio brings to life an original sound of catchy ska/alternative melodies. A native of Sligo, Keith has just completed his MA in Classical Guitar Performance. He is the recipient of numerous awards, and has participated in master-classes with renowned classical guitarists such as John Williams, Berta Rojas, David Russell and Fabio Zanon. Spanish tapas and wine will be served. Thursday 4th August, 8.30pm Source Sligo, John Street Kieran Quinn & Dave Flynn Resident pianist Kieran Quinn has quickly made the Thursday night ‘Source Sessions’ into a hugely popular event on the Sligo music calendar. He is joined by a different guest each week in this unique venue. This week his guest is Wexford’s Dave Flynn, the superb vocalist and guitarist. Thursday 4th August, 9.30pm Hargadons, O’Connell Street The Wranglers Howdy folks! Get ready for a country and bluegrass bonanza. The Wranglers are Anthony Mannion on acoustic guitar, dobro and vocals, Luke Mercer on acoustic guitar and vocals and Michael Conefrey on Bass and vocals. They combine to create great foot stomping bluegrass with some top vocal harmonies. This is not to be missed so make sure to pop into Hargadons. Thursday 4th August, 9.30pm Bistro Bianconi The Williams Sisters This Sligo based musical duo are American born songwriters Mara (guitar) and Rebecca (piano). They employ the use of harmony in their music, capitalising on the haunting sounds created when their two voices blend. With influences ranging from Sufjan Stevens, Alison Krauss and Regina Spektor, The Williams Sisters have a unique sound that subtly fuses American folk with different genres of pop music throughout the decades. 6 Thursday 4th August, 10pm The Snug, Stephens Street Sean Sands Sean Sands is a singer/songwriter and a multi instrumentalist. He plays guitar, mandola, tenor and five string banjo, low whistles and keyboard. He played and performed Irish folk music most of his adult life around the folk clubs of his native Belfast and around Ireland, Scotland and England. He has supported Christy Moore and The Wolfe Tones in America and toured with The Barley Corn. His most recent recording is The Sands of Time. Thursday 4th August, 10pm Mc Garrigles, O’Connell Street Collette Sheerin, Anna Houston & Friends For the finest in crackin’ tunes McGarrigles on O’Connell Street is the place to be. Featuring the driving force that is Anna Houston (No Crows) on banjo/mandolin and the sweet and lively playing of Collette Sheerin on flute/tin whistle. Musicians also welcome to join the craic! Followed by late night DJ. Thursday 4th August, 10pm Foleys, Castle Street Ultan Conlon Galway man Ultan Conlon has now become a mainstay in the Irish music scene. His critically acclaimed album 'Bless Your Heart' being described as ‘the most impressive Irish debut since Damien Rice’s O’ Olaf Tyaransen, Hotpress & Evening Herald. He has supported numerous artists including the late John Martyn, Richard Hawley, John Grant, Declan O'Rourke, Lisa Hannigan, Hermione Hennessy, Mark Geary, Roesy, and David Kitt. This is one great gig. Thursday 4th August, 10pm Glasshouse, Hyde Bridge In House Music Come and enjoy this lively set after Ladies Day at the races. Thursday 4th August, 10pm Fiddlers Creek, Rockwood Parade The White Gorillas The White Gorillas were formed by members of two Irish cover bands, Whitewater and Gorilla Radio. The set list includes music from the likes of Bob Dylan, Paolo Nutini and Nina Simone, right through to Kings of Leon, Led Zeppelin and even the odd nineties dance classic! This regular gig at Fiddlers is always good craic and always different. Bothers Niall, (Guitar & Vocals) and Patrick Kellegher, (Harmonica & Vocals), enlisted the talents of Boyle native Johnny McGlynn (Banjo & Slide Guitar) to complete a trio united by an idea of returning an honesty and intensity to playing high-energy music on acoustic instruments. FRIDAY Friday 5th August, 6pm Mc Garrigles, O’Connell Street Sharon Conway & Ruby Ridge A lifetime fan of the American country music scene, Sharon’s song writing style has been forged from years spent listening to American country/rock music from Emmy Lou Harris to Johnny Cash. Her fusion of catchy songs and melodic voice are marking her out as one of Ireland’s most progressive country rock pop songwriters. Thursday 4th August, 11pm The Clarence, Wine Street Chart The Clarence brings you one of Sligo’s easy-on-the-pocket nights. €2 with 2 Drinks & €2 admission and one free cocktail before 12. The resident DJ’s play the best in chart and R n B and dance. 8 Friday 5th August, 8pm Café Iruna, Teeling Street Ciaran O’Dwyer Ciarán picked up a guitar at the age of fourteen and hasn't put it down since. He trained with Felip Carbonell, the successful Sligobased guitarist. Ciarán enjoys playing many genres, from Catalan rumba to John Lee Hooker; and in his own work has developed an unusual style that's very overhand heavy. Tapas and Wine will be served during the performance. For Ruby Ridge, she has joined up with a band of talented Sligo based musicians: Leslie Jones on mandolin, acoustic and electric guitar, Dave Griffith on bass, and Mark McGovern on acoustic and electric guitar and Tony Travers on drums. Followed by late night DJ. Friday 5th August, 6pm Hargadons, O’Connell Street Ultan Conlon & Band Ultan has played at many festivals including 'The Electric Picnic', 'Body & soul' festival, Bundorans 'Seasessions' and 'The Hebcelt Festival' alongside Imelda May in Stornoway on the isle of Lewis.Last summer also saw Ultan take in most of Scotland and the north of England on tour. Legendary folk singer John Martyn liked his songs so much he sang on Ultan's beautiful track 'Really Gone', which was to be Martyn's final release before his untimely death in February of last year. Friday 5th August, 8.30pm Source Sligo, John Street Remedy Remedy” are a three piece band new to the Sligo Scene featuring Michele Feeney (Vocals), Declan Courell (Guitar / Vocals) and Dave Carty (Bass). Remedy cover a wide range of musical styles “acoustically”, ranging from Neil Young, Tom Waits, Soft Cell, Sinead O’Connor, and Alison Kraus to name but a few. Well worth a listen in the intimate environs of SOURCE Sligo. Miss Ireland has always been the most coveted crown in Ireland, so come and help select the Sligo entry. The evening will be hosted by I 102104 DJ Mark Cunning. Friday 5th August, 9.45pm Sligo Park, Pearse Road Fergus Harmon Fergus Harman hails from Co. Leitrim and has been involved in the music industry for many years. Fergus has showcased his talents across the States, Denmark and Rome. The Humble Earthworm (Paul Ward, vocals and guitar, Sandra Ward, vocals and bass, Nigel Caron, drums/percussion) are a rock/pop cover band from Donegal. The band has been receiving rave reviews in the past few years. The music covered ranges from the latest chart hits to good old rock classics. Friday 5th August, 10pm Fureys, Bridge Street 21 Outs 21 OUTS is an energetic 3-piece band formed in August 2007 by Philip Cassidy. They have exploded on to the scene in Ireland in the past few years, supporting the likes of Jape and Republic of Loose. The group was a big hit at the recent Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival and will play the world famous Cork Jazz Festival Club at the Metropole later this year. This is the ultimate party band. Dean is a singer whose versatility and superior vocal ability mean he is comfortable singing anything from rock to folk. Rick Epping has been playing harmonica since his early childhood in California and has been playing Old Time, Blues and Irish music since his early teens. Gerry Hanley is a former All Ireland Champion accordion player who has played across the USA from New York to California and at many festivals throughout Europe. Philip Duffy is recognised as one of the finest fiddle players in the country. Hailing from Tubbercurry, Philip is also a member of Sligo’s well known “Dartry Céilí Band”. Friday 5th August, 10.30pm Harp Tavern, Quay Street Screamin’ Bluecats The Screamin' Bluecats, a dynamic three piece rockabilly band, based in Galway have just released their debut album "Too Hot To Rock N' Roll". Saturday 6th August, 11am Lyons Café, Wine Street Breakfast Club with Remedy “Remedy” are a three piece band new to the Sligo Scene featuring Michele Feeney (Vocals), Declan Courell (Guitar / Vocals) and Dave Carty (Bass). She plays the flute and tin whistle and sings some very melodic folk songs. Saturday 6th August, 2pm Street Party O’Connell Street Saturday 6th August, 4pm Café Fleur, O’Connell Street Sarah Crummy Sarah Crummy is a new upcoming act. The singer/songwriter from Sligo town has played piano for seven years and also plays the guitar. She won the midlands final of 'stars in yer eyes' and represented the Ursuline college in 'our schools got talent' in which she came second. She covers many songs from a range of genres and also plays some of her own songs. The Street will be closed to traffic and open to fun all afternoon. Manchester United Legends. Gerry has had a very successful eleven year career with Sligo Rovers. Firstly as a player, winning numerous medals, and currently is assistant manager to Paul Cook. Why not bring all the family and enjoy a great hour in this amazing little jewel in Sligo. 13 Saturday 6th August, 5.30pm Hargadons, O’Connell Street Thom Moore & Friends Thom Moore, the American-born creator of many songs about Sligo (including Still Believing, The Scholar, Believe Me Sligo, South-Sligo Nocturne, Sligo Down to Spain, Rosy-Painted Barge, etc., etc.) is making a special appearance for the festival. When he lived here in the Seventies he founded the groups Pumpkinhead and Midnight Well with other famous Sligophiles, American and Irish alike. Since then, he’s been around the world and back with the box/keyboard player Isabel ni Chuireain and Sligo guitarist Gerry Grennan, both musicians of renown. have played on the jazz scene in the North West for years. Both hail from Donegal and have played together in various formats. "Twoplay" create a popular sound of easy listening, mainstream jazz. Saturday 6th August, 7.30pm Fiddlers Creek, Rockwood Parade No Strings Attached Are Alison Slattery and Ciaran Storey. They play regularly in some of Galway City's most popular night spots. They are an acoustic act with Alison covering the vocals & percussion while Ciaran looks after the chorus! The setlist includes everything from Adele & Alanis Morrissette right through to Johnny Cash, U2 and even Eminem gets played on occasion. Saturday 6th August, 8.30pm Source Sligo, John Street Ultan Conlon The most impressive Irish debut since Damien Rice's O" according to The Evening Herald & Hotpress's Olaf Tyaransen. An influential figure in Ultan's life was the late John Martyn whom he supported several times. Martyn was so impressed with Ultans songwriting that he requested to record one of Ultan's tracks with him and his previous band UltanJohn. The resulting track 'Really Gone' was sadly Martyn's final release. Saturday 6th August, 7pm Sligo Park Hotel, Pearse Road Jazz Dinner with Twoplay Enjoy this amazing evening in the Hazlewood Restaurant with a four star dinner and complimentary glass of champagne while listening to this top class jazz duo. This entertainer offers a variety show of great songs and music for all tastes. He has entertained for many years and sings country, rock ‘n’ roll, and Irish ballads and also writes and records his own songs. Songs from Mick Hanly to The Eagles. Saturday 6th August, 10pm Riverside Hotel, Millbrook Road Angel Road Angel are a well known local band. They have been together for just over a year and have played many gigs in Sligo. Their set cover songs as diverse as Creedence Clearwater Revival, Thin Lizzy and ACDC. The band played at the Rory Gallagher festival in Ballyshannon for the first time this year and were a great hit with the crowd. Saturday 6th August, 10pm Foleys, Castle Street Rodney Lancashire & Seamus Hernon Seamus Hernon is a native of Gurteen County Sligo and has been playing flute since he was six years old. His main influence and tutor was his father PJ Hernon the renowned accordion player. Rodney Lancashire is from Cootehill County Cavan and plays bouzouki, mandolin, banjo and concertina. He has recorded CD’s with Mactire. 19 Saturday 6th August, 10pm Hargadons, O’Connell Street Saramai and The Swords Saramai and the Swords are recording their debut album this summer in a series of live sessions with Damien Chennells. Hereto Saramai & The Swords have been focused on songwriting and playing live, gathering momentum and experience opening for the likes of Jack L, Declan O'Rourke, Fionn Regan, Luka Bloom, Kila, and The Lost Brothers to mention but a few. Although comparisons to Kate Bush and Tori Amos have been drawn, Saramai and The Swords have a distinct playing, singing and songwriting style that is difficult to categorise. There are classical twists and hints of darkness throughout unusually structured songs. Saturday 6th August, 10pm Radisson Blu Hotel, Rosses Point Rumbatism Rumbatism is a band lead by the Sligo-based Mallorcan singer/guitarist Felip Carbonell of NoCrows fame and featuring his NoCrows colleague, bassist Eddie Lee, guitarist Eddie McFarlane and drummer/percussionist Ken McDonald in an enticing musical mix, both rootsy and virtuosic. The band specialises in Felip's own fiery brand of Catalan Rumba. Rumbatism also performs latin jazz and even some pop standards in the same style. As Felip says "everything is Rumba-ble!" Declan Courell, a fine traditional guitar player, is known for his sensitive and rhythmic approach towards backing. Philip is one of the finest fiddle players in the country and is an exponent of the Sligo style. Philip is a member of the Dartry Ceili Band, All Ireland Ceili Band winners, 2009. Declan Payne plays piano accordion and is recognised as one of the best piano accordion players in Ireland. He is a member of the well-known traditional music group “The Border Collies”. Teresa O’Grady, a former All Ireland Champion banjo player, comes from a family steeped in traditional music. She is also a member of “The Border Collies”. Having formed in late 2008, the band has covered ground quickly proving to fans and the industry alike that they are more than prepared to entertain an audience. Since the release of their debut EP last year, they have featured heavily in the media with live sets and interviews on several major radio stations and publications. After having played several Irish festivals this year, and toured with Tommy Ramones' outfit, Uncle Monk, this trio are very much in demand.
