COURSE # 343 UNIT 4: ADVANTEX® WASTEWATER TREATMENT SYSTEM
Installation and Inspection of the AdvanTex Treatment System
Step 1: Determine Tank and Pod Position
•
Is it a Fully-Assembled Package (FAP) or unassembled
system?
•
Decide how to orient the filter pod
• The filter pod often sits on, or immediately adjacent to
the tank
•
Consider the filtrate return line for the best
orientation

Step 2: Excavate and Set the Tank
•
Determine the required elevation and grade
requirements of the tank and AdvanTex pod before
excavation
• The tank must be set deep enough below the pod to
allow for a minimum 1/4 inch per foot slope from the
outlet of the filter to the inlet of the RSV on the riser.
•
Also, keep in mind that the top of the AdvanTex pod
needs to sit 1 1/2 inches above final grade.

Tank Specifications
•
All processing tanks must be either:
✔ A two-compartment recirculation (processing) tank, or
✔ A septic tank followed by a recirculation (processing) tank
•
No vertically-aligned circular tanks
•
Must be an Orenco fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) tank or a concrete tank
that conforms to an Orenco-approved tank design authorized by an Orenco
Dealer
Must meet the tank specifications of Chapter 73, Section 31

Why only Orenco FRP or Approved Concrete
• Tanks can crush or break if they are not structurally sound
• Tanks can leak in or out if they are not watertight

Step 3: Install Risers and Water-test the Tank
•
External splice box (if used) and recirculating splitter valve bracket should be
installed on the riser before the riser is mounted
✔ The Orenco Dealer typically installs these components

Step 5: Install Filtrate Return & Discharge Lines
•
Slope the filtrate return line at least 1/4” per foot
(minimum 2” drop if less than 4’)
•
Orient the split-flow tee to the slope of the discharge line
•
Connect the return line to one end of the tee
•
Connect the discharge pipe to the other end of the tee

Step 6: Install Recirculating Splitter Valve (RSV)
•
Understand how the RSV works
✔ When the RSV float is seated (tank liquid level seats the float)
the filtered effluent discharges
✔ When the RSV float is not seated (tank liquid level drops) in a
Mode 1 configuration, all filtered effluent returns to the
recirculation/processing tank. In a Mode 3 configuration, all filtrate
is returned to the primary compartment of the processing tank. In
Combo Mode, there is a 50/50 split of the effluent between the
primary and the recirculation compartments
•
Determine if bracket requires installation
✔ Some systems are supplied with the bracket pre-installed
•
Note quick disconnect
✔ The quick disconnect must slide easily for removal
and replacement
✔ Ensure that the disconnect bracket is not installed in a way that
prevents removal and replacement

Step 6: Install RSV & Floats, continued:
•
Determine the handle pipe length and install in the top of the RSV body
Determine Float Levels
The top float is normally set equal with
the tank’s inlet invert. The bottom float
should be approximately 4 in.
below the normal low operating level.
For further assistance, use the diagram in the Installation Manual, Orenco
document NIM-ATX-AX-1 (Appendix 3, pages 24 & 25 of the manual) to calculate
stinger length and float levels

Optional Step: Install Pump (dosing) Tank or Basin
•
A pump basin or dosing tank is used when dispersal requires pumping
or dosing
✔ Contains pump, flow inducer, splice box, and discharge assembly

Refer to Pump Basin installation
instructions for details. Appendix 4,
pages 26 & 27 of the AdvanTex Installation Manual, Orenco
document NIM-ATX-AX-1.

when the pump first comes on during start-up,
debris in the transport line will not be pumped into
the manifold and orifices.

Step 9: Install the Passive Air Vent
• Use a 2-inch diameter vent line if the vent is 20 feet or less
from the pod
• Consider locating the vent near a protective wall or under
shrubbery
• Do not allow “low” points in the vent piping where water can
accumulate and block the air flow

Ventilation
Note:
This is a poor installation. The
pipe is not really buried. The
vent is
sitting on an old cinder block.

Step 10: Install the Control Panel
• Use a licensed electrician for wiring
✔ Float connections
✔ Incoming power to the panel
✔ Power from the panel to the recirculation pump
✔ Power to the discharge pump, if applicable
✔ Conduit seal outside riser
Note:
Do not install the control panel
on the wall of a bedroom, living
room, or other living space.

Step 13: Backfill
•
When backfilling, be careful not to alter the slope of
pipes. Brace the pipes or place the pipes on a compacted bed and carefully fill around them.
•
Backfill the filter in maximum 12” lifts
•
Ensure the top of the filter is a minimum of 1” to 2”
above grade
•
Slope ground away from filter
Note:
Before backfilling, make sure
all pod and riser lids are bolted
down. Failure to bolt down lids
may result in deforming the pod
and risers.

FILTRATE SAMPLING LOCATION: RESIDENTIAL SYSTEMS
•
Sample the discharge filtrate at the RSV
•
Pull the RSV out of its quick disconnect bracket; lay it on a flat surface
•
Take the sample at the RSV inlet

Note:
Take care not to scrape the bottle
on surfaces and pick up debris.
Wait for a timed pump cycle.
Do not force the pump to run.
