Hartac’s extensive range of safety showers and emergency eyewash
facilities provides a solution for a multitude of emergency situations

SAFETY
A good example is the necessity to provide a cooled deluge shower
in hostile, remote environments where solar exposure to pipework
raises water temperatures well beyond safe limits. The solution for

Safetyman ‘Comfortcool’ Emergency Deluge Showers are designed
for hot, exposed locations where, by insolation (heating from solar
radiation). The maximum safe water temperature is considered to
be 35°C. Not only can scalding be a problem but hot water can open
pores to allow greater contaminant ingress and, in some cases, it can
accelerate reactions with adverse effect. The principle is simple. The
supply line is jacketed with a percolating hose which allows water,
seeping through, to evaporate from the outer surface. The jacket and
the water it contains insulate the supply water and, at the same time,
latent heat is removed by evaporation, from the whole assembly. The
supply water is therefor kept cool and comfortable. The supply water
is held static in the supply tube. A needle valve allows water from the
supply tube to enter the jacket from which it percolates through and
evaporates, in a very limited and controlled manner, to atmosphere.
This avoids water wastage while maintaining its cool condition. With
the ComfortcoolTM System the water is on to the patient in one second
or less.
