Pella Christian Grade School Orange City Tulip Time Band Trip on May 17-18, 2013 WHAT: PCGS 6-8th grade marching band Orange City Tulip Festival This festival attracts over 150,000 visitors to the Orange City community. Our band will march in both parades on Friday and in the afternoon parade on Saturday, which is a judged competition. WHEN: Friday-Saturday, May 17-18, 2013. The band will travel in two charter buses from PCGS early on Friday, May 17 to Orange City, will sleep overnight in the Orange City Christian Grade School gym and will return to Pella by approximately 11:00 pm on Saturday, May 18. WHY: We are excited to be given this opportunity to attend our 12th Orange City Tulip Festival with the band. The opportunity to participate in this event sends a positive message that the hard work by the band students can lead to great rewards. We hope all students will be able to participate in this exciting performance! It’s a great learning experience and a lot of fun! WHO: Mrs. Dykstra, Mr. Brostrom, Mr. De Jong, and a group of parent volunteers will serve as chaperones. The band is divided into groups of 5 to 7 students with a chaperone responsible for and accessible to each group. The 6th graders will be accompanied by their chaperone during their first block of free time in order to familiarize them with the layout of the town and location for parade line-up, etc. HOW: Partners in Education (PIE) has generously donated $2,000 which covers part of the cost of the charter buses and the meals listed below. Each student will need to pay a fee as indicated on the permission slip toward the cost of the trip and will need to bring an additional $10 for supper on Saturday. They will also want to have extra money (maybe $15) for rides and concessions at the festival. Meals provided: Friday light breakfast on bus Friday lunch (Culver’s) Friday supper (Pizza Ranch) Saturday breakfast Saturday lunch One meal not provided: Saturday supper (McDonald’s or Subway) Please read over the attached information. Return the permission form and the trip fee (per student) to the school office or to Mrs. Dykstra by May 1, 2013. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
