EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY AT OSLC
Do you have a passion to nurture, mentor, and encourage faith development? Do you have a gift for
creating and providing experiences for youth &
young adults that deepen their relationship with
God, and with one another, in order to be the
hands & feet of Christ in the world?
Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church is accepting resume’s & letters of application for the Youth
and Young Adult Ministry Coordinator position
— contact the church office at 734-6396 or
[email protected] for the job description.
Looking for a sweet gift?
Mother’s Day, Sunday May 8, 2016,
the OSLC Soul Sisters Group will be
hosting a bake sale after each Worship. You will have numerous
choices of some super sweets.
Contrary to the dictionary
definition, the church is not the building. The church is the community of
believers, each member a part of the
Body of Christ.
For the believers to be the
hands & feet of Christ, leaders are
needed and members to carry out the
work of the mission & ministry. The
leaders are in place, but disciples
(team mates) are needed.
Please prayerfully consider
which committee you might be able to
lend a hand to. Where does your passion lie? What gift(s) do you have to
share?

Our Saviour’s & Lincoln Elementary Form a Partnership
Moving forward with our vision to “Love God, Love Others,” Our Saviour’s has formed a partnership with
Lincoln Elementary School in Appleton. This partnership gives church members a chance to share their
talents with the Lincoln School family and it gives the students and staff a broader base of support within
the community. Lincoln Principal, Bill McClone, stated that the opportunities for service are unlimited. Here
are just a few ways that we can serve:
Tutoring
Mentoring a student
Helping in the classroom
Working on clerical tasks
Helping serve lunch
Helping clean the playground
Knitting caps and mittens
Offering woodworking services Making treats for the staff
If you would like to help with “The Lincoln Project,” please call or e-mail Jim Justman
([email protected] or 920-915-9367) or Jeanne Seitz ([email protected] or 734-4944).
As the school year winds down, you can still help Lincoln by saving Labels for Education (Campbell Soup label), Box Tops, and 5¢ Milk Caps. There is a collection
box at OSLC in the library area. Let’s “reduce, reuse, recycle, repurpose” and snip rather than toss these items that add up to a rather nice sum for the students benefit. Thank you!!

Brian Krauss,
Christian Education
Committee Chair
Brian joined Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church 13 years ago because he found the congregation to be welcoming and the
church is Christ-based, offering
opportunities to grow. Brian accepted the position to serve on
Council because he has a desire
to teach & share the Word of
God with others.
Brian has been an integral part of
the Body of Christ at OSLC. He
has served on the Evangelism
Committee, led Equip! bible studies, filled in to lead the Friday Bible Study, volunteered in the office, is active in various youth
projects, and is an OSLC representative at the Crossways
Camps annual meeting.
Brian served 20 years in the United States Air Force. He invests
much of his volunteer time at Fox
Valley Lutheran Homes and is
now a Little Chute Windmill tour
guide! Brian has been married to
Jeanne for 26 years. The whole
family is into volunteering, including their two teenagers!
Thank you, Brian!

opened at 6:30pm with prayers and devotion led by Pastor

Minutes: Motion was made, 2nd, and carried to approve the
February 9, 2016 council meeting minutes.
Pastoral Perspectives:
 Pastor Kurt brought up several items tonight. The
OSLC Adult mission trip is going St. Louis area in
June this year. OSLC is scheduled to have the Seder
meal for Maundy Thursday evening service this year.
Sign-up to date is low and we really need 50-60 minimum. The last date for signing up is Thursday March
15. If the numbers are too low, the Seder meal will be
cancelled & replaced with a regular service. Lastly

mentioned was streaming of OSLC sermons can be
found at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/oslc-appleton.
Due to copyright laws, only the sermon is available at
this time, not the entire service.
Pastor Dee reported on opportunities to get involved
with community activities aimed at creating a culture
of acceptance & support with a focus on AfricanAmericans in the Fox Valley. Pastor Dee handed out a
letter from Theda Care highlighting information on
this. We still need people to go to Synod Assembly on
May 20/21. Early registration ends April 8.
Staff and Committee Reports: Written reports are reviewed by council in advance of each council meeting.
These reports are on file in the church office. Only issues
raised by committee chairs for discussion are recorded in
the minutes.
 Financial: Joni Shellabarger spoke to the Council
with regard to our current financial standing. Highlighted the $8000 of undesignated Memorial Funds.
Pastor Kurt mentioned we are now starting to collect
funds for a new sign along Meade St. that we can consider using some of these funds for. Motion made, 2 nd
& carried to approve the February Financial report.
 Technology: Pete Bailen reported on a couple of items
he is looking into.
 He is working with CMIT looking into ways to simplify our technology systems to minimize our costs.
Our current systems are complicated enough where
if we don’t make some changes, our CMIT costs
will go up for them to continue supporting the system we have.
 He is looking into iPad Giving Kiosk options. Pete
reported that we can get attachments to be added to
iPads through Vanco for example for allowing egiving. OSLC is looking to add this ability. The
church currently has 3 iPads that we could use to try
this out. Using QR codes is also a possibility. QR
code technology is currently available to OSLC and
is on cards in pew racks, but it has not been advertised broadly.
 Christian Education: Brian Krauss reported the
committee is in place to hire a new Youth and Young
Adult Ministry Coordinator. The team consists of
(Adults) Brian Krauss, Wendy Seegers, Karen Roherty, Pastor Dee, Pastor Kurt, Steve Alstad, and Brian Westerbur; and (Youth) McKenna Seegers, Josh
Agius and Kyle Allen.
 Old Business:
 2016 Council Retreat Recap. Several members
that attended mentioned they thought the time was
well spent. The focus was on OSLC outreach
moving forward and what traditional churches are
seeing in general trends for growth & how we can
continue to deepen people’s faith .
