Third Sunday of Advent~Tercer Domingo de Adviento
Sunday Reflection
This Sunday is “Gaudete
Sunday” or joyful Sunday as
light the rose candle and
acknowledge we are halfway to
Christmas. It is a time to enter
deeper into the mystery of the
Incarnation as the Word was
made flesh and dwelt among.
We began the Year of Mercy on Tuesday. I invite
us to do the following things this Year – 1) receive
God’s forgiveness through confession; 2) do a
corporal work of mercy; 3) do a spiritual work of
mercy. The corporal works of mercy are: feed the
hungry; give drink to the thirsty; clothe the naked;
harbour the harbourless; visit the sick; ransom the
captive; bury the dead. The spiritual works of
mercy are: instruct the ignorant; counsel the
doubtful; admonish sinners; bear wrongs patiently;
forgive offences willingly; comfort the afflicted;
pray for the living and the dead. The more we can
share the mercy we receive from God, the more we
are building up his Kingdom. Stay tuned for future
announcements of events and talks here in the
parish related to the Year of Mercy.
We also have several pilgrim church’s in our
Archdiocese with Holy Doors. They are located at
the Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels, and in the
San Fernando Region at the following parishes –
Holy Family, Glendale; St. Charles Borromeo,
North Hollywood; Our Lady of the Holy Rosary,
Sun Valley and Our Lady of Lourdes, Northridge.
By visiting these places or doing a spiritual or
corporal work of mercy, one can obtain a plenary
indulgence when the following are also done: have
the interior disposition of complete detachment
from sin, even venial sin; confessed their sins;
received Holy Eucharist; and pray for the
intentions of the Supreme Pontiff. These
indulgences can be applied to oneself or to the soul
of the deceased. Partake in the mercy of God this
year.
Sunday, December 20th is the last day to sign up
for Youth Day in Anaheim on Thursday, February
26th. This event is for all high school students. This
is a great way for our teens to deepen their faith.
Talk to Krysta or Stephanie for more information
and to reserve your spot.
Have a blessed week.
Our Lady of Peace… pray for us.
beber al sediento; vestir desnudo; acoger al forastero;
difuntos.
las siguientes parroquias-Sagrada Familia, Glendale;
San Carlos Borromeo, North Hollywood; Nuestra
