Welcome to the Kyushu National Museum!
Opened in 2005, the Kyushu National Museum is one of only four
national museums in Japan. The Museum was designed around the
concept of "understanding the formation of Japanese culture from an
Asian history perspective";and strives to be accessible, friendly and
fun.

holds a wide array of
costumes, household

paper-cutting and other
activities.

With a ceiling made of Japanese cedar
wood thinned from forests all over Kyushu,
the vast entrance is overwhelmingly
beautiful. The bustling hall serves as the
stage for various events.

picture books, exhibition catalogues, T-shirts and

Tea ceremonies are held at the tea ceremony house
located on the grounds of the Museum. (Reservations
required to participate or to view the tea house.)

Exhibition Gallery
The theme of this exhibition gallery is “Ocean Ways, Asian
Paths.” The exhibition displays are constantly changed and this
creates a fresh viewing experience for visitors.
The restaurant is under direct management
of Hotel New Otani Hakata. You can enjoy
top quality dishes at the Museum.

The Cultural Exchange Exhibition Gallery consists of five
exhibition areas. Visitors can freely view the history of
cultural exchanges between Japan and the countries of
Asia from their favorite historical periods and explore
particular themes of interest to them. Limited time only
“topic exhibitions” with different themes are also worth
checking out.

*Amount in parenthesis represents the admission fee for groups. Separate admission is charged for
Special Exhibitions. During the period of Special Exhibition, the admission for the Cultural Exchange
Exhibition will be included in the Special Exhibition ticket.
