TOGETHERHOOD™
Signature Program for Social Responsibility
Y members will be able to participate in strengthening their
community through convenient, fun and rewarding service
projects that are part of the Y member experience.
The Togetherhood™ program is an on-going effort led by a
volunteer service committee. This effort is separate from
the Y’s engagement of volunteers working within the Y to
support our programs. Togetherhood™ projects benefit
the community at the individual, family and organizational
level. Members are the leaders of the program. Members
develop project ideas, lead and run projects and are known
as owners of the Togetherhood™ program. Sheboygan
YMCA Staff Advisor Mike Burns facilitates connections to Y
resources and strategic and safety guidelines.
Watch for postings of upcoming projects and sign up at the
desk to volunteer for projects. To get involved you do not
have to be on the committee. You can be a project volunteer
and volunteer for projects that you want to support. If you
are interested in helping strengthen our community through
the Y Togetherhood™ program, please contact Mike at
[email protected] or 920-451-8000 x118.

sheboygan county ymca child care
YMCA Child Care Centers are licensed child care facilities
that offer quality care in a safe family-like environment for
children. Our centers participate in YoungStar, a program of the Department of Children and Family Services,
created to improve the quality of child care for Wisconsin
children. YoungStar evaluates and rates the quality of care
given by child care providers, helps parents choose the
best child care for their kids, supports providers with tools
and training to deliver high-quality early care and sets a
consistent standard for child care quality.
The preschool programs have a preschool and prekindergarten curriculum with weekly themes and developmentally appropriate activities. The schedule varies by age
and ability of the child and includes large group and small
group activities and story time. Children participate in a
physical activity every day, including Zumba, Dance on the
Move, gym and swim lessons and recreational swimming
twice a week at the Sheboygan YMCA.
The grade school programs are open to children in kindergarten - grade 5 (age 13 at the Sheboygan YMCA) who
attend school within Sheboygan County. Activities provide
each child with age-appropriate experiences. The schedule
may include arts and crafts, homework assistance, games
or computer use. Children may also play in the gym, playground or park. All areas are supervised by child care staff.
We offer before and after school care during the school
year and full day care on days when there is no school and
during the summer.
For availability at your child’s age level and pricing, please
call Tanya at 920-451-8000 for Sheboygan or Ashley at

a MANDATORY meeting at 7:00pm on Monday,
September 26 at the Sheboygan YMCA.
Team Practices
The Chinooks offer six training groups to accommodate all
of our athletes by age, ability and training maturity. Coaches
will determine what group your swimmer will practice with.
To verify the training group that your child should be
in, please email [email protected].
The Senior Swim Team, swimmers ages 9 and older, will be
placed in Gold, Silver I, Silver II or Bronze training groups
depending on race times, swim ability and level of stroke
development.
The 8 & Under Swim Team, swimmers ages 6 - 8, will be
placed in Blue, Red or White training groups depending on
swim ability and level of stroke development.

With a focused and consistent approach to enhancing your
golf fitness, you’ll not only build a strong foundation for a
great swing, you’ll also feel better, improve your stamina
and increase your tolerance to the stresses that may result
in overuse injuries.
The YMCA and Cybex also recognize, however, that as a
golfer, your priority is playing golf and not spending endless
hours in the gym. Therefore, we’ve designed this program to
be specific and targeted. Exercise routines can be completed
in as little as twenty minutes, giving you plenty of time to
lace up your spikes and hit the fairways.
This program is offered at both the Sheboygan YMCA and
the Sheboygan Falls YMCA. The 4-week training session is
with a personal trainer and full access to the Bravo Functional Trainer. Call now to set up your personal training.

Diabetes Prevention Program
The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program helps adults make
lasting lifestyle changes that will improve your overall health
and reduce your chance of developing type 2 diabetes.
The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program is an innovative
program proven to reduce the burden of type 2 diabetes, one
of the nation’s costliest chronic diseases. It has been shown
to reduce the number of new cases of diabetes by 58%
overall and by 71% in adults over 60. The YMCA’s Diabetes
Prevention Program is supported by the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention and the Diabetes Prevention and
Control Alliance, and other national organizations committed
to preventing chronic disease.
The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program is for one year of
16 weekly sessions followed by 8 monthly sessions. In a
relaxed classroom setting, a trained Lifestyle Coach helps
participants learn skills that will incorporate healthy eating, increase physical activity and other behavior changes
into their everyday lives. The program goals are 7% weight
loss and an increase in physical activity to 150 minutes per
week. To be eligible, participants must be at least 18 years
old with a BMI of 25 or greater and at risk for developing
type 2 diabetes or have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes.
Youth under 18 and persons diagnosed with diabetes do not
qualify. A Y membership is not required for participation.
The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program will start
new classes this fall at the Sheboygan YMCA:
Mon........ starts October 10.......... 5:30pm – 6:30pm
Thur....... starts October 20....... 10:00am - 11:00am
Join us for a free information session on Monday, September
26 from 6:00pm - 6:45pm. The session will feature risk assessment, information on diabetes/pre-diabetes, program
topics covered and how it helps you be successful, and time
for questions. If you register this evening, you will receive
three 45-minute personal trainings, a $75.00 value.
The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program can also be held
at worksites or almost anywhere there is a meeting room
and a group motivated to make a positive lifestyle change.
Enrollment in the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program includes a 4-month YMCA membership and a participant
workbook/resource binder.
For more information, please contact Mike Burns at
[email protected] or 920-451-8000 x118
or visit www.sheboygancountyymca.org. The fee for this
program is $429.00 and may be covered by your health
insurance provider. Financial assistance is also available.
“I knew something had to give. I was overweight, I didn’t exercise and my doctor told me I would most likely develop diabetes
if something didn’t change. Fortunately, I joined a program that
helped me make healthier choices such as eating better and
being more active. The group experience was really inspiring.
We dealt with challenges many of us were facing and shared
ideas on how to overcome them. The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program was a wake-up call that really changed my life!”

Fitness schedule is Subject to Change
As part of a successful group fitness program at your
YMCA, we want to offer beneficial days, times and types
of classes. Therefore, the fitness schedule is subject to
change. We consider 7 participants a beneficial number
in a class. If a class averages less than this over a 3-week
period, we may eliminate it. In addition, if there is a class
day, time and type that is not currently offered, we may
add it as well.
All core and specialty fitness classes will run continuously
with the exception of holidays. The schedule will be
adjusted during holiday weeks. There are no breaks and
no hassle with payments!
We value your membership and want to make it as beneficial as possible. Please contact the Healthy Living Director
at 920-451-8000 with questions or to provide feedback.
fitness schedule information
• Because our fitness schedule is subject to change,
it is published separately from the brochure. Upto-date schedules are at the Welcome Desk or on our
website at www.sheboygancountyymca.org.
• Warm-ups are an important part of each class!
Please arrive 5 minutes before the start of each class.
Let us help you build your workout!

If you want a cardio class, try:

Gilliam Family
Member Highlight
A Healthier, Happier Family!
The Gilliam Family joined the Sheboygan County
YMCA in January 2016. Their family includes
James, Amanda and their four children: Sierra,
8; Caleb, 6; Emily, 4; and Noah, 1. We asked
the Gilliams to share the story about their
experiences thus far at the Y:
A little over a year ago, friends of ours asked
us to join the Y and at first we said no, because
we didn’t want to spend the money on a membership. We are so glad that we had a change
of heart because it has been the best decision
we have ever made! The $67.00 monthly fee for
a family membership is a small price to pay to
become a healthier family.
Both James and Amanda had goals: he wanted to become more fit and muscular while Amanda had a weight
loss goal in mind. Since the end of January, Amanda has
lost a total of 45 pounds and 36 inches! She will tell anyone who
asks that there is no special secret or formula that she has used, just
a complete diet change, becoming more active and a lot of hard work!
With their family membership, James and Amanda love to attend fitness classes together. Some of their
favorites are Zumba and Boot Camp. They also spend a lot of time in the Lakeview Center lifting weights and
doing cardio. In Amanda’s words, “We are so thankful to all the trainers and fitness instructors at the Y who
have been helping us and cheering us on along the way. It is really a motivating and inspiring environment!”
Following James and Amanda’s journey, several other families were inspired to join the YMCA after seeing and
hearing about their progress! James and Amanda also started a Facebook page called “Never Give Up.” They
post healthy recipes they have tried, exercises they have done, they vent, they laugh, they share successes
and failures, scripture and just general support for people who are on similar journeys. James and Amanda
also thank God every day for bringing them to where they are today.
Not only do James and Amanda utilize the Y to its fullest potential, but so do their children! They play in the
KidZone, take the free swimming lessons, participate in gymnastics and youth sports. You can often find the
children in babysitting while James and Amanda get their workout in. With their family membership, they get
an hour and a half of free babysitting per day for each child.
In closing, Amanda said it best. “If you are like us and are contemplating becoming members, I urge you to
do it! We have been so blessed by becoming members, not only by getting healthier, but we also have made
some amazing friends along the way!” Way to go Gilliam Family!
