This year we have chosen to make quilts for patients with ALS—Lou Gehrig’s disease. ALS is a progressive disease where the nerve cells that control voluntary muscle movement degenerate. Gradually the victim’s muscles become paralyzed throughout the body. It is the most common neurological disorder. Every 90 minutes an American is diagnosed with ALS. Every 90 minutes an American dies from ALS, but very little research is being done on this terrible disease because it destroys its victims so quickly. Scientists do not yet know the cause of ALS and there is no treatment or cure. Our favorite batting company, Quilter’s Dream Cotton, is organizing this effort to help these victims. You can read more about their personal involvement and what you can do to warm the life, the heart and the lap of an ALS patient, and help raise awareness and research money for ALS at http://www.quiltersdreambatting.com/HD/ALS.htm Sign up to bring your quilting tools and a friend. Lunch will be provided. With your help, we can make a difference in the lives of patients suffering from ALS. And while you’re stuffing your stash, look for other patterns and books that feature Fat Quarters! Come celebrate the day at Suzanne’s, save money and enjoy some special Fat Tuesday foods as a treat for yourself. Charming Demo Day Saturday, February 20 10 a.m. & 2 p.m. Happy Birthday to You!
