Her vision for the firm is design-driven. CHAN SOO KHIAN SCDA Better known as Soo K Chan, the principal and design director of SCDA Architects is behind the National Design Centre, SkyTerrace@ Dawson and The Marq on Paterson Hill. His practice has projects in 40 locations worldwide. Ahead of the completion of Soori High Line condominium in New York in 2017, he was named one of 20 top power players in New York City real estate by the New York Post. SIMON CHEONG SC GLOBAL DEVELOPMENTS Chairman and CEO of SC Global Developments Simon Cheong and his team are known for collaborating with architects and professionals on upscale residential living spaces and lifestyle concepts. In 2010, SC Global set a benchmark with The Marq on Paterson Hill, and last year, it completed Sculptura Ardmore, a residential development resembling a sculptural work of art. ' ONG TZE BOON ONG&ONG PTE LTD ONG&ONG GROUP The group executive chairman of Ong & Ong introduced a holistic design process encompassing urban planning, architecture, interior design and landscape design, now known as the 360° Solution. In 2014, he received the President's Design Award (Designer of the Year). His accomplishments include awards from the New York One Show, Design & Art Direction and Tokyo Type Directors Club. ·\·;: - NAJHAN YOt,IG NATHAN YONG DESIGN Upon his graduation from Temasek Polytechnic with a diploma in Industrial Design, Nathan Yong started his career as a buyer and product develope1 for various companies in Singapore. After receiving a Master of Design degree from the University of South Wales, he subsequently won the Red Dot Award for Design Concept in 2006 and 2007, and the President's Design Award (Designer of the Year) in 2008. Yong is also the founder of furniture brand Folks Furniture and Grafunkt, a retail-based company that specialises in contemporary furniture brands. His recent projects include a trophy design for DesignSingapore to honour accomplished designers, architects and artists for SG50, a set of outdoor dining tables for Ligne Roset, and a chair for Gebruder Thonet Vienna, which was launched a Salone del Mobile Milan 2016. �-'�- � RICHARD K F HO RICHARDHO ARCHITECTS Richard Ho is the founder of RichardHO Architects and a professor at the National University of Singapore's Department of Architecture. He received the President's Design Award in 2013 and chaired the jury panel at the SIA Architectural Design Awards 2015 and 2016. An avid supporter of animals, he recently completed the new complex for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. 74 SINGAPORE TATLER HOMES LIM CHOON HONG XTRA Lim Choon Hong founded Xtra with three partners in 1989. He remains the managing director of Xtra which has grown from a having niche eclectic design outlet to a 20,000 sq ft flagship store in Park Mall with three other showrooms. Xtra has collaborated with Herman Miller, Magis and Tom Dixon among other brands. It will unveil a new flagship store at Marina Square in October 2016. PETER TAY STUDIO Peter Tay's portfolio consists of high-profile residential and commercial projects including Edipresse Media Singapore's new office and Wang Leehom's apartment in Taipei. He published his monograph in 2013 and went on to win the President's Design Award (Designer of the Year) in 2014. He also participated in the Time Space Existence exhibition at Palazzo Bembo at the Venice Biennale in 2014. SYDDALWEE MACSK The general manager of Macsk, Syddal Wee consistently raises the bar in the presentation of premium design brands. Wee's instrumental involvement in the retrofitting of three buildings for premium furnishing retailer Space Furniture's Singapore showroom (Space Asia Hub) helped the project garner the Architectural Heritage Award in 2012, presented by the Urban Redevelopment Authority. SINGAPORE TATLER HOMES 7 THE HEADLINERS Key influencers and newsmakers who are changi.ng theface of the nation's design scene PATRICK CHIA SQUEEZE DESIGN Patrick Chia counts his first international success as the time when Philippe Starck selected his Squeeze bench for the Mondrian Hotel. He went on to start Squeeze Design which has been featured in international design journals, including Wallpaper*, and has worked on a multitude of high-profile projects and collaborations. Apart from running his practice, Chia is the design director of the Design Incubation Centre at the National University of Singapore, conducting design research and investigations into new design tools and processes. For his teaching, design and research work, Chia received the President's Design Award (Designer of the Year) in 2013. 76 SINGAPORE TATLER HOMES JEFFREY HO KIAT DESIGNSINGAPORE COUNCIL Jeffrey Ho established the DesignSingapore Council's Design Thinking & Innovation Academy, and the Asian Insights & Design Innovation programme. He also led the bid for Singapore to be named a Unesco Creative City of Design and founded Singapore Polytechnic's School of Design. Ho is adjunct associate professor for design thinking at the National University of Singapore and an accomplished visual artist. As director at Scott Brownrigg's Southeast Asia operation, Raymond Hoe drives and develops opportunities within the region. His projects include the Henderson Wave Bridge, which received the President's Design Award (Design of the Year) in 2009, and the SIA Architectural Design Award 2011, and The St Regis Hotel Maldives, a finalist in the World Architecture Festival Awards 2015. NIKKI HUNT DESIGN INTERVENTION Nikki Hunt's work is featured in the Andrew Martin Interior Design Review. A winner of many awards, including Best Interior Design (Residence) in Asia Pacific for 2014, 2015 and 2016 at the International Property Awards, Hunt also spearheaded the launch of the Young Designer of the Year Award in 2015 and was a finalist at the Andrew Martin International Interior Designer of the Year Awards 2016. SAWAKO KAJIMA SINGAPORE UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY AND DESIGN (SUTD) Sawako Kajima is assistant professor of Architecture and Sustainable Design at SUTO. Her research and consultancy work in architectural, structural and environmental design have garnered much acclaim and numerous awards, including the Singapore Design Awards 2016 and Singapore Good Design Mark Award 2016. He collaborated with Urquiola and WOHA Architects on the interior design of the recently completed Oasia Hotel Downtown and released the Crystalline collection of tableware for pewter brand Royal Selangor in March 2016. ANGELA LIM SU MISURA Founded in 2009 by Angela Lim, young design consultancy and interior planning firm SuMisura is devoted to discovering the universe of bespoke. Known for her glamorous, haute couture showflats, made-to-measure furniture and interior spaces, Lim has also been working on interior design projects such as the One Shenton Sky Villa, The Fernhill Collection and penthouses at Hallmark Residences. SuMisura won a Silver at the Hospitality Design Furniture Luxurious Projects Asia Summit & Awards 2013 under the Top Luxury Residential Design category. Its design submissions for the Awards from 2013 to 2016 were also highly commended. 78 SINGAPORE TATLER HOMES MOK WEI WEI W ARCHITECTS The man behind the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum, Mok Wei Wei was a recipient of the President's Design Award (Designer of the Year) in 2007. Prior to this accomplishment, he served as a director at the Urban Redevelopment Authority. He was appointed as a member of the board of the Singapore Land Authority in 2015. •• 1 ' LIM KOON PARK, CHRISTINA THEAN, TAN PENG GEOK PARK + ASSOCIATES The trio leads their architectural practice with an approach that seeks to push the envelope for good design in Singapore. Some of the firm's recent awards include the President's Design Award (Design of the Year) 2015 for the Architect's Office at Kim Yam Road and the Design Award for The Greja House at the 14th SIA Architectural Design Awards. ED ONG DWELL INTERIOR DESIGN Creative director and founder of Dwell Interior Design Ed Ong creates bespoke interior designs for private residences and showroom environments. Since the inception of his studio in 2005, it has become a full-service design house, building up an extensive portfolio, with recent projects including bespoke residences at The Coast @ Sentosa Cove, The Marq on Paterson Hill and Leedon Residence. ! YUNG ONG PROOF LIV ING GROUP Yung Ong is executive director of Proof Living, a group of companies including Proof Living, Dream, BoConcept Singapore and Crate and Barrel Singapore. In the last year alone, Ong's notable ventures and milestones included the opening of Black Nut, a gentlemen's club themed bar, being awarded the tender for seating at Changi Airport Terminal 4 and the completion of 12 showflats at Twin Peaks Tower 2. COLIN SEAH MINISTRY OF DESIGN (MOD) Colin Seah, director of design at MOD, has been named Designer of the Year at the International Design Awards (USA) and is a two-time recipient of the President's Design Award (Design of the Year). For Seah and MOD, 2016 is a year of several firsts, including the firm's first Caribbean project, a mixed-use development in Kuala Lumpur and a multidisciplinary hotel in Beijing set to launch later this year. TERENCE SEAH BENOY Terence Seah is the divisional director-head of Singapore studio at Benoy. Currently spearheading the interior design and retail and aviation facilities planning of one of Singapore's most anticipated projects, Jewel Changi Airport, Seah also works with Singapore developers abroad on projects such as Raffles City in Shenzhen with CapitaLand, helping to bring the distinct Singapore design approach to new cities. GEORGE BK SOO FLIQ George Soo has quickly risen to become one of the sought-after talents on Singapore's design scene. His Next collection for Xtra in 2013 challenged the notion that a workplace had to be sterile and task-oriented. On behalf of SingaPlural, Soo curated a thematic showcase and was featured in the Asian Star Showcase: 20 Rising Furniture Designers at the International Furniture Fair Singapore in 2015. ONG KER-SH,fNG (RIGHT) AND JOSHUA COMAROFF (LEFT) LEKKER ARCHITECTS After studying architecture and landscape at Harvard University, Ong Ker-Shing and Joshua Comaroff began working together as Lekker Design in 2002. Having worked for a range of clients, including Hermes, JTC, Yale University-National University of Singapore and others, the duo-she is director while he is design consultant-received the President's Design Award (Design of the Year) in 2015 for the Caterpillar's Cove childcare centre project in Jurong and was named as one of Maison & Objet's Rising Asian Talents in 2016. SINGAPORE TATLER HOMES 7� HUNN WAI AND FRANCESCA LANZAVECCHIA LANZAVECCHIA + WAI DESIGN STUDIO Hunn Wai and Francesca Lanzavecchia established Lanzavecchia + Wai Design Studio in 2009. The studio is synonymous with design that empowers and betters lives on top of having potent commercial viability both regionally and internationally. The studio was named by Newsweek as one of the Designers of the Future in 2012 and received multiple awards including the Young Design Talent Award at the Elle Deco International Design Awards 2014, the "Innovation in Inclusive Design Practice Award" by the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design, Royal College of Art, London in 2015 and the Red Dot Award 2016 for product design. 8Q SINGAPORE TATLER HOMES RENE TAN RT +Q ARCHITECTS Inspired by his daughter Lara's words "the real beauty of architecture is not about a building's looks but its heart and character", Rene Tan, director of RT+Q Architects, demonstrates his love for the profession through his works, including award winning houses in the region, like House in 3 Movements and House with Bridges that received the SIA Architectural Design Award 2015. JEREMY TAY AND MICHAEL ONG PRESTIGE GLOBAL DESIGNS Jeremy Tay and Michael Ong have built up a portfolio of notable projects, such as Palms @ Sixth Avenue and Cairnhill Plaza, and garnered numerous accolades, including Singapore's Highly Commended Interior Design (Private Residence) at the International Property Awards 2014. At the 2016 Asia Pacific Property Awards, the duo took home a record of six awards (awarded to a single interior design firm) and two Asia Pacific nominations for projects in Singapore and abroad. ROY TEO THE MILL GROUP - DESIGN CONSORTIUM: KRl:EIT ASSOCIATES, THE ID DEPT, SPLENDOR, AND XXII CENTURY Roy Teo's extensive consortium is heralded as a multi-year winner at the International Property Awards and finalist in the Andrew Martin Designer of the Year awards. Teo's projects exemplify world-class design standards, demonstrating that excellent design knows no geographical boundaries. TIAH NAN CHYUAN FARM Currently the director of Farm, Tiah Nan Chyuan spent his early career years in the Urban Redevelopment Authority as an urban planner before joining his schoolmates at Farm in 2009. Under Tiah's direction, Farm received awards including the URA Architectural Heritage Award in 2013 for 21 Lor 24A Geylang and completed notable projects, including Airbnb's new office in Singapore. tell{br, THE NOTEWORTHY Each one an icon in their own right, these individuals have put Singapore on the world map _' ..... :-',:_�) / ' •• • � > . ,, SHUKUN BU LH CHAN ARCHITOLOGY INTERIORS After having worked at various architecture firms where he honed his skills designing condominium projects and houses, Shukun Bu founded Architology in 2010. Since then, Bu has designed many high-end luxury residential and hospitality interiors with his impeccable craft of space and feel for refined material touches. Architology Interiors, with its sister firm A_Collective Architects, where Bu is also a principal designer, was recognised by Singapore Architect magazine in its "New Blood Young Architectural Firms in Singapore" feature. The pair of firms has won accolades at the Asia Pacific Property Awards and from Houzz International. KELVIN AND KAREN GAN TDC & ASSOCIATES LH Chan is the principal designer of TDC & Associates. The studio has received awards at the Asia Pacific Property Awards from 2009 to 2015, and was shortlisted for the Andrew Martin International Interior Designer of the Year Award in 2015. Chan's recent projects include the D'Seaview development in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, the first mixed-use development along Sihanoukville's beautiful beaches. KGID The duo are design directors of Karengandesign, specialising in commercial and residential interiors and lending their unique sense of style to one of-a-kind projects such as the recently completed Namly Drive, Sarada Road and Urban Suites. Their bespoke projects inject sophisticated luxury into penthouses and residences, and they style showflats for various condominiums here. IVAN HO EVELINA HU TIZUMUKA Established in 2012, tizumuka is a multidisciplinary design studio founded and helmed by Ivan Ho that conceives projects around explorations of construction details, methods and material usage. It received the Red Dot Award (Honourable Mention) for the 'yodeesa' stool in 2014 and launched its first collection as part of the International Furniture Fair Singapore's Design Stars 2016 showcase. THE PLUSH Evelina Hu specialises in modern and classical designs in the commercial and residential sectors, attracting clients that include property developers and international businesses from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore. Hu's well-rounded approach to design reflects her clients' lifestyles and encompasses interior architecture and timeless furnishings that are like art pieces in the clients' homes. Versatile in various styles from modern to classic, Hu received the SME Prestige Award in 2015. •• D -� SATINDER GARCHA GARCHA HOTELS, ELEVATION DEVELOPMENTS Satinder Garcha has partnered with the likes of Zaha Hadid and Robert Stern on projects around the globe. His past projects include the much hyped Hotel Vagabond and the upcoming Duxton Club. He garnered the SIA Architectural Design Award 2013 for the exquisitely crafted The Green Collection residential development in Sentosa Cove. 82 SINGAPORE TATLER HOMES -.J CHRISTOPHER GUY HARRISON CHRISTOPHER GUY Christopher Guy and his eponymous company have grown into an international brand, specialising in alluring decorative furnishings for an international audience. Guy was awarded the Outstanding Design award by The British Interior Design Association in 2004 and was conferred as the 2011 Design Icon by the World Market Center Las Vegas and Las Vegas Design Center. EDWIN LOW (RIGHn AND MEI LING LEE (LEFT) SUPERMAMA When Edwin Low and Mei Ling Lee took a sabbatical year to spend time with their children anc set up Singapore design-based store Supermama, the duo never expected the success that followed. The company celebrated its 5th anniversary in March 2016, and Supermama's founders continue to work closely with local designers and traditional craft facilities in Japan to produce meaningful giftware that represents the Singapore culture. Supermama won the President's Design Award (Design of the Year) in 2013 for its Singapore Icons collection and was recognised at L'Espace Retail, Maison & Objet for its innovative retail approach. r, �"f\) '. For Commune, Koh shares a strong vision of exploring new trends to enrich the products that the company designs and produces, bringing the company's reach into various markets such as China, Malaysia and Australia. Commune received the Singapore Good Design Mark Award for the Dualtone range of products in 2015. LINGHAO ARCHITECTS Intrigued by the relationships between the interior and exterior, and between users and the built environment as part of an intimate tropical world, Ling Hao founded his practice, Linghao Architects, in 2000. He received the President's Design Award (Design of the Year) in 2013 and 2014, for the Satay by the Bay project and T House respectively. Besides running his own firm, Ling is also a lecturer at Lasalle College of the Arts and a studio master at the National University of Singapore. SINGAPORE TATLER HOMES 8; /( tr cetec HILARY LOH 2ND EDITION A partner and design director at boutique design studio 2nd Edition, Hilary Loh is the driving force behind the studio's substantial portfolio that ranges from residential projects to showrooms for commercial and residential developments, including Auralis and Starlight Suites. 2nd Edition's awards include the IDC(S) Design Excellence Silver Award for 1919 residential development (2012) and Asia Pacific Property Awards for Penthouse at The Paterson and The Skywoods showroom from 2014-2015. 84 SINGAPORE TATLER HOMES WAYNE LOH WAL ASSOCIATES Wayne Loh commenced his career as a jewellery designer prior to venturing into interior design. In 2001, he founded W&Luca Design, a specialist in retail and commercial design, and in 2010, he co-founded WAL Associates, a firm specialising in luxury interior architecture and design. His projects include the recently completed office for MSS Recruitment, Macau's largest human resources agency. JASON POMEROY POMEROY STUDIO Having designed the first zero carbon house in Asia and with clients including Versace and Jimmy Choo, Jason Pomeroy has demonstrated that environmental consciousness can and should be combined with luxury. His achievements include awards such as the SCA Singapore Green Building Council's Young Green Advocate of the Year Award and the Green Mark Platinum Award for the B House project. SI JIAN XIN AND HON KIT LEONG WYNK COLLABORATIVE Named by Singapore Architect magazine as a young and rising design firm, Wynk Collaborative, helmed by Si Jian Xin and Hon Kit Leong, creates works that meld architecture, interior, furniture and graphic design. Its works include residential and commercial projects, such as the Honestbee office and The Projector lobby here, and Adelphi & Co in Kata Kinabalu, Malaysia. SIEW MAN KOK MKPL ARCHITECTS Siew Man Kok redefined the typology of HDB flats with his Bidadari Estate Master Plan that integrates a housing estate into a park. The architect's projects have garnered prestigious awards, including the RISA International Award and SIA Architectural Design Award.
