March/April - Tekakwitha Conference
National Tekakwitha Conference “The earth has received the embrace of the sun and we shall see the results of that love.” Hunkesni (Sitting Bull) Hunkpapa Sioux MARCH—APRIL 2013 VOLUME 31 ISSUE 3 MARCH—APRIL 2013 2 Tekakwitha Conference 2013 2013 Board Members Pierre Solet Choctaw/Houma Region 4 Chair Christine Keffer Onondaga Region 1(member at large) Vice-Chair Tasha Smith Ottawa Region 2 Dear Friends of the Tekakwitha Conference, Many exciting events continue to unfold in 2013. Masses of Thanksgiving to honor our first Indigenous Saint are still gathering numerous people of many cultures in various locations throughout the country. World breaking news at the Vatican resounded in all four corners of the world. A conclave will be convened in March as the College of Cardinals gather from around the world to elect a new pope. Let us have special prayers for our church leaders as they discern a new leader for the Universal Church. We are in the midst of the Lenten Season reminding us that now is the acceptable time for a renewed effort to follow Jesus on this journey. We have our Saint Kateri as a model to assist us along the way to be able to see more clearly our purpose as God has deigned for each of us. We are challenged to a commitment of a deeper understanding of our catholic faith. At the same time we are called to honor our cultural values and beliefs for a fuller and richer spiritual life within Holy Mother Church. Joyously, let us live Easter and the Easter Season celebrating many new life experiences with renewed spirit. May you enjoy Spring and all it offers with its freshness and colorful displays on Mother earth. Saint Kateri Tekakwitha, walk with us. Sister Kateri Mitchell Secretary Vision Statement: The voice, presence and Identity of Indigenous Catholics of North America.
