PREPARE the WAY
North Carolina Baptists,
I want to sincerely thank you for your promotion of this year’s North Carolina Missions Offering (NCMO). Your
promotion has helped the NCMO gain much support throughout our state, not only in the form of monetary
contributions, but also in the form of prayer and missions involvement.
This year’s NCMO theme is “Prepare the Way” based on Luke 10:1: “After these things the Lord appointed seventy
others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to
go.” This theme, I believe, is a calling on the lives of all Christians — wherever we go, we must prepare the way for
Jesus using our God-given skills and talents.
The NCMO supports N.C. Baptist Men/Baptists on Mission (NCBM), church planting, mission camps, associational
projects and mobilization ministry projects. This means that when you give to the NCMO, your contribution
helps to relieve the suffering of people, plant new churches and share the gospel of Jesus Christ. It also helps to
mobilize volunteers for missions, treat the sick and respond to various disasters. As you read through this booklet,
you will read some personal testimonies about how God has used the NCMO to make an impact in our state,
nation and world.
In 2015, NCBM added a new health screening mobile unit to its already existing medical and dental bus ministry.
This new ministry has already expanded our ability to minister to both the physical and spiritual needs of
individuals across our state. Funds received through the NCMO also helps our church planting team in their work
with about 100 new churches each year.
Although gifts to NCMO have allowed numerous individuals to serve the Lord internationally through one of our
many ministry partnerships in places like Armenia, Guatemala, Haiti and Romania, these funds also have a direct
impact right here in North Carolina. Each year, 10 percent of gifts to NCMO are sent to N.C. Baptist associations to
support ministry and missions on a local level.
Once again, I’d like to thank you for spreading the word about the NCMO to your family, church and friends. I pray
that as you read through this booklet, you will gain a greater understanding of how God uses NCMO to make a
difference through service and through reaching the lost. I also pray that God will use the theme, “Prepare the
Way,” to inspire you to serve Him fervently through the gifts He has given you, preparing the way for Him to do a
great work in our world.
In His Service,

When volunteers from N.C. Baptist churches started working with
public schools in Hungary, they never dreamed the impact it would
have. By teaching English during weeklong summer camps, they
helped prepare the way for Jesus to transform an entire school.

Thanks to a law passed by the Hungarian government in 2012 that shifted the responsibility of public
schools from the government to a non-profit organization, N.C. Baptist Men/Baptists on Mission (NCBM) has
partnered with Hungarian Baptist Aid (HB Aid) to send teams of volunteers to teach English Bible camps in a
number of schools.
The weeklong camps are an opportunity for students to learn about American culture, improve their English
and learn about God. At the conclusion of one of the camps held in the Hungarian village of Nagyhalász,
hundreds of children, their parents and school workers responded to an invitation to place their faith in Jesus.
“I watched in amazement as the principal and his wife, teachers of the school, workers from the cafeteria,
and parents together with their children flooded to the front of the gymnasium in response,” said Sándor
Szenczy, who serves with HB Aid. “More than 150 stood together, praying to receive Christ and afterwards
began crying, dancing and celebrating their newfound faith.”
The partnership with groups like HB Aid is just one
of the 17 different ministries of Baptists on Mission,
which are supported by the North Carolina Missions
Offering (NCMO). When you support the NCMO, you are
helping prepare the way for Jesus by demonstrating
the love Christ in our state, nation and world.

celebrating their newfound faith.”

HEALTH SCREENING BUS
In 2015, N.C. Baptist Men/Baptists On Mission (NCBM) added a
new health screening bus to its fleet of mobile medical and dental
units to help meet the physical and spiritual needs of individuals
all across the state.
The new unit offers screenings for cholesterol, high blood
pressure, diabetes and other health-related issues, such as
depression and risk for heart disease. Caring for physical needs
through this ministry helps prepare the way for Jesus. Every
patient who is seen on the health screening bus hears the lifechanging message of the gospel and learns that Jesus Christ is
the great physician who transforms lives.
“There are many places right here in North Carolina where people may feel neglected or feel like no one cares
about them,” says Crystal Horton, a registered nurse who coordinates the health screening ministry. “This
ministry allows us to show people how much we care for them by ministering to their physical, emotional and
spiritual needs.”

health screening ministry prepare the way for Jesus in a video

DISASTER RELIEF
From flooding in the Carolinas to the earthquake in Nepal, NCBM responded to a total of 15 different disasters in 2015.
With more than 14,000 trained volunteers, disaster relief is one of the most visible ministries of NCBM/Baptists on Mission.
Ministering to those impacted by catastrophes is also one of the most tangible ways to prepare the way for Jesus.
Last year, individuals served a total of nearly 18,000 volunteer days, completed more than 1,300 recovery and rebuild
projects, prepared more than 29,000 meals and provided more than 5,500 showers to those in need.

MEDICAL/DENTAL
In 2015, NCBM’s two mobile medical and dental units logged more than 21,000 miles to provide care in 140
locations over the course of 173 days. More than 1,300 medical and dental professionals volunteered their time and
talents to provide care to more than 4,600 patients.
Providing physical care helped prepare the way for patients to receive spiritual care, as well. An additional 1,500
more volunteers, including pastors, counselors and translators, ministered to patients at every location, resulting in
numerous professions of faith and other decisions. Your financial support of NCMO helps keep these mobile units on
the road, ministering to those in need all across North Carolina.
AVIATION MINISTRY
The NCBM aviation ministry provides free air transportation to medical patients in need of critical care. In 2015, 94
volunteer pilots transported 218 patients to and from hospitals across the country. Thanks to the NCMO and the
gracious service of the pilots, this ministry saved patients a total of $414,000 in transportation costs.
DEEP IMPACT
More than 1,600 youth participated in 11 Deep Impact mission camps last summer. Deep Impact camps allow
students to participate in a number of community-oriented missions projects, including construction, Vacation Bible
School/Day Camps, sports evangelism, servant evangelism, prayer walks and more.
Additionally, more than 900 children attended various camps at Caraway Camp and Conference Center, where they
learned about the importance of missions. An additional 450-plus campers attended World Missions Week at Caswell,
as well. These camp experiences show boys and girls that the Christian life is exciting.

Two mission camps located in Red Springs and Shelby provide churches and youth groups affordable short-term
missions opportunities. The camps are directed by NCBM and can each accommodate up to 200 volunteers per day.
Volunteers engage in a number of mission projects in the surrounding communities, including building wheelchair
ramps, painting, repairing roofs, cleaning and mowing yards, and much, much more.
In 2015, volunteers serving at the Shelby and Red Springs mission camps tallied more than 6,000 volunteer days.

Christ calls every believer to be a missionary. With offerings received through
NCMO, men, women and students are being mobilized to be on mission for God in
the United States and around the world. NCBM works with missions partners to plan, equip and send volunteer teams
to assist these partners.
Through these partnerships, individuals use their talents, gifts and abilities to prepare the way for Jesus. Some teach
children or adults. Some use their medical expertise or construction skills to share the love of Christ. Others show love
and hospitality by serving in numerous other ways.
N.C. Baptist Men/Baptists on Mission has been in partnership with the Eastern Baptist Convention in Cuba for more
than 12 years. Many members of N.C. Baptist churches have served on teams to Cuba that have led youth camps,
conducted leadership training, hosted Vacation Bible Schools and participated in projects for youth and adults with
special needs. Within the next year, teams anticipate beginning work on new seminary in the city of Santa Clara, which
is one of the least-churched regions of Cuba. Numerous volunteer teams also serve in other places around the world,
such as Armenia, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Kenya and Romania.
Thousands of volunteers also serve annually with ministry partners all across the United States in places like the
Appalachian coalfields, Hawaii, Pennsylvania, the Rocky Mountain states and Vermont. Volunteers on these teams serve
in a variety of ways, which include construction, assisting church plants, prayer walking and Vacation Bible Schools.

The Baptist State Convention of North Carolina works with churches,

associations and church-planting networks to facilitate the launch of new
churches. Since 2007, the BSCNC has helped more than 1,000 new churches
across the state, averaging more than 100 annually. In 2015 alone, the
convention worked with 105 new churches — 83 new church plants and 22 new affiliate churches.
The convention’s team of church planting consultants provides training, coaching and additional support to
these church planters, equipping them to reach their communities for Christ.
WHY IS CHURCH PLANTING
IMPORTANT?
With more than 4,300 North Carolina Baptist churches, some may wonder why the emphasis on church
planting is necessary. Statistics repeatedly demonstrate that new church plants are the most effective way
to reach people with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
North Carolina is one of the fastest growing states in the nation, and an estimated 5.8 million lost people
live here. As North Carolina becomes more culturally and ethnically diverse, planting disciple-making
churches is essential in pushing back darkness and impacting lostness.
REACHING THE NATIONS IN
NORTH CAROLINA
God is bringing the nations to North Carolina, which is evidenced by the fact that more than 300 different
languages are spoken inside the state’s borders. Many of the people groups who speak these languages
have no churches they can attend where they can hear the gospel in their native tongue.
CHURCH PLANTING
9
Our church planting consultants are committed to getting the gospel to these individuals in their heart
language and planting contextual churches to further evangelize and disciple these language communities.
Of the new churches the convention’s Church Planting Team worked with in 2015, 60 percent of the new
church plants were non-Anglo congregations and 56 percent had a heart language other than English.
Hispanics continue to be one of the largest and fastest growing ethnic groups in the United States. It’s
estimated that more than 1 million Hispanics call North Carolina home.
“New Hispanic churches need to be planted in every town and city across the state,” says William Ortega,
Hispanic church planting consultant with the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. “We can meet the need
of starting more Hispanic churches in North Carolina with your gifts to the North Carolina Missions Offering!”
Visit vimeo.com/channels/ncmo for a video that demonstrates
how your gifts to NCMO support church planting across
North Carolina.
THE GOAL: MAKING DISCIPLES
The Baptist State Convention worked with 105 new churches in 2015 — 83 new church plants and 22
new affiliate churches. Collectively, these new churches reported 6,155 professions of faith and 7,595 in
aggregate weekly worship attendance.
The NCMO is vital to the convention’s church planting efforts, providing nearly one-third of the church
planting team’s annual budget. Twenty-eight percent of this year’s offering will go toward planting new
churches in North Carolina. By giving to the NCMO, you help plant churches that make disciples of Jesus Christ.

Associations use these funds in a variety of mission and ministry projects,
including evangelistic outreaches and initiatives aimed toward ministering to the needs of
people in their community.
Several associations in western North Carolina use NCMO funds to partner together each year to minister
to workers and attendees at the annual Mountain State Fair. The Raleigh Baptist Association has also used
NCMO funds to support its annual evangelistic outreach at the N.C. State Fair in Raleigh.
“The North Carolina Missions Offering has allowed our local association to grow a disciple-making passion
among the local churches as they are on mission to share the gospel locally, regionally, nationally and
globally,” said Perry Brindley, Director of Missions for the Buncombe Baptist Association.
Every year, the Little River Association uses NCMO dollars to help local church plants as well as support
missions endeavors around the world in places like Armenia.
Your gifts to the NCMO support strategic evangelism and mission efforts like these and many more through
your local association.
