Show season is well underway and we are hearing from many of our members and friends about their show and travel plans. Many
are choosing not to travel very far from home because of the economy, however, that does not seem to have reduced attendance at
many of the events. Several of the local clubs in my area are citing increases in registrations from local vehicles and an increase in
retired emergency vehicles at their events. It is great to get out and mix with regular car events. Exposure to our hobby and
association is always a great thing. Remember to send us photos if you do participate in these various events, regardless of the size
of the event. We just want to know you are active out there.
I heard from many of our friends and members and they wanted to see a bi-monthly newsletter. Thank you for all your great
suggestions and comments. Over time we will incorporate as many of your ideas as we can. Many require us to have the newsletter
fully electronic but we are not quite there. We don’t want to leave our non-internet members and friends behind.
In this issue we are featuring three events and have many more to feature in near future newsletters. Don’t forget to send in your
pictures and articles in support of our newsletter. I have listed several of the events we know of but there are many more shows than
what show on this page and the website. If you know of more, let us know.

If you have a vehicle you are restoring or working on, particularly a fire vehicle or ambulance, let us know. Members are constantly
asking about wiring tips, how to remove scratches from their vehicle’s finish, resources for parts, etc so jump in and let us know
about your projects and tips. If you don’t mind sharing, we know we will all benefit from it!
Respectfully Submitted,
John

2009 Union City Parade
Reiner Glausch (#510)
On May 16th, the EVOOA participated in the Union City CA. 50th anniversary celebration parade. The day started off with
everyone arriving at Reiner & Sheryl Glausch's house at 8am for coffee and pastries.
We then caravaned to the staging area fully marked with all emergency lights uncovered, thanks to the permission of our police chief
Greg Stewart. The weather warmed up as we waited our turn to enter the parade precession at 10:30am, and we all were happy to
get on the road.
Our group had the pleasure of having UCPD Chief Stewart with us. He rode in Reiner & Sheryl's 1967 Dodge marked as UCPD
circa 1967 / 1968. With lights on and sirens wailing we traveled the one plus miles down the Alvarado Niles Road, the main road
through UC.
Everybody cheered as we drove by and gave us the thumbs up and the children became very excited in see all the parade entries, all
70 of them. Our group was number 46, so we had the perfect position being in the middle of the parade. Our day concluded with
our group caravan to In-N-Out Burger for lunch, where we had our own mini emergency vehicle show.
Our group consisted of EVOOA Reps. Reiner & Sheryl Glausch; EVOOA members Ed Rominger, Tom Beasley, Atherton police
(Skip Mills); Tom & Joanne Paletta, EVOOA supporters & friends Phil & Leila Verzola ( Phil drove our Crown Vic); Veronica
Verzola and Police chief Greg Stewart.
A special mention is needed for EVOOA member Paul George and his better half Andrea. They recently celebrated the arrival of
baby Emily on Feb. 14th 2009. This was Emily's first parade riding in Paul's fire truck, and she did just fine with all the motor
noise, sirens and excitement. Congratulations Paul & Andrea !!
Vehicles in our group were 1967 Dodge UCPD, 1993 Crown Victoria Sheriff, 1966 Mustang Atherton PD, 1937 Ford fire truck,
1977 American La France fire truck.
Great group & great friends !!! Come join us next year
