Please keep in your thoughts members Dick
Lodge, who has had recent surgery, and Flo Reichardt who has
also been in the hospital. We wish them both a speedy recovery.
It is that time of year again… tour and show season! We have
many upcoming events to bring your cars and your families to.
The Annual Spring Day Tour promises to be another exciting tour
put together by Steve & Diana Thum on May 6th. The Annual Picnic
is on June 10th this year. Bring a side dish or a dessert to
share with fellow club members. Make sure to contact chair Flo
Reichardt to RSVP and let her know what dish you will be
bringing. In July we have the Annual Overnight Tour on the
21st-22nd. Sam & Cindy Atkinson have many interesting and
unique stops planned for us. There are many shows to choose
from this year. The MOT will again showcase many area car
clubs, the first having been the Vintage Ford Show that brought
out great people and their Model T’s and A’s and others. Check
this issue for information on MOT and other shows in our area.
On September 22, 2012 the Girl Scouts of America will be
celebrating their 100th Anniversary. Having already had our
Centennial we all know how important and exciting this
milestone is for an organization. They have asked my wife
Shannon to coordinate cars for the parade downtown and a car
display next to the Soldier's Memorial. They are in need of cars
from 1900 - 2012. We hope that many of our club members can
support this great organization and bring their cars out. See
page 14 for more info on this special day.
Enjoy the Journey,

2012 ANNUAL OVERNIGHT TOUR
The Model T Ford Club has a very special weekend planned for you. Not only will you get
to exercise your old car, eat a good meal and be with fun people, but this year we will
visit some good museums as well. This year’s overnight tour is to the southern Illinois
town of Greenville.
At 8:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 21, 2012 we will meet in the Northwest corner of Northwest
Plaza and will depart at around 8:20 or when everyone gets there, whichever is sooner.
Please try to be on time. We plan to take an indirect and scenic route to Greenville
utilizing river ferries and County Roads whenever possible. The route is mostly flat so
we should make good time and will arrive in Greenville before1:00.
After arriving the fun really begins! Greenville is home to DeMoulin Bros & Co which was
started in 1892 and became the world’s largest maker of
fraternal hazing and initiation devices. Among the
crazy contraptions on display are spanking machines,
trick chairs, bucking goats and a lung tester.
Admission to the museum is by free-will donation. Also
in Greenville is the American Farm Heritage Museum.
Located on 40 acres, it is a museum dedicated to
preserving the farm heritage that built this country
and features tractors, farm equipment, and lots of
other well-displayed early American items. Everyone
who has driven east on I-70 has seen this museum and we finally have the opportunity to
visit. Admission is $5.00.
We will be staying at The Country Inn and
Suites, a 3 year old and very nice motel
conveniently located close to everything.
They have an indoor pool, exercise room,
pillow-top beds, and a full hot breakfast
included in the price of the room. Their back
patio even looks out over an adjoining Bison
Ranch. It is the perfect place for us to stay
and I have “blocked” 14 rooms in our name at a group rate of $72.99.
For dinner that evening we have reserved the banquet room at Cunetto’s restaurant just a
mile or-so from our Motel.
We hope everyone can go regardless of what they drive.
If you decide to go you must do 2 things;
1) call The Country Inn and Suites (618) 664-9700) to reserve your room and be sure to tell
them you are with “The Model T Ford Club”.
2) call Sam Atkinson (636) 386-2088) so he can get an accurate head count for our Saturday
night dinner reservation.
This is gonna be fun!

A “Mystery Photo”?! Yes, Model T enthusiasts, that’s right! Each issue will
test your knowledge on all things Model T!
Another Mystery Photo from our friend Seaworthy Clemmons! Let see what he would like to
know....
He writes:
This photo has a very strong St. Louis connection. It shows the market’s first retail
location; they still have a market in this suburb. This grocer caters to the carriage
trade; the other two markets are in Clayton and Ladue. Hans Stanke is the proud driver
and a cousin of the owner. Each of the markets had its own delivery truck.
Can you answer these questions;
1. What is the name of this grocery chain?
2. What is the year of this neat C-cab truck?
3. Is the body a Ford factory body or an after market body
Do you have a Model T
Mystery Photo to share?

Mystery Photo #2 Answers
It seems member Bill Rhoads stumped most of us with this
Mystery Photo! We did get one reply however. Lets see how
close they were to figuring out the mystery of the year and
body style of the T, what was unusual about the T, why does
the radiator shell say “Ritzy”, and who in the local car
club hobby this T was connected to.
Dear Editor,
The car club Bill Rhoads refers to in the last Mystery
Photo is the Horseless Carriage Club of MO. Three St.
Louis area Brass Car collectors drove to Los Angeles, CA. in 1940. They
represented several dozen men in St. Louis who were interested in Horseless
Carriages. After much garage touring and negotiations, they returned home with
a charter for the Missouri region, the first local region granted in the
U.S. Because of American involvement in WW II, the club remained dormant until
1944. At this time it seemed apparent the U.S. and her allies were winning the
war, and our country would not be occupied by Japanese and German armies. I do
not know the name of the owner of the Model T pictured. There are a number of
things different about this Model T. The radiator shell, the barrel-type
headlamps, the high mounted bumper, as well as what may be a starting device
attached to the crank hole. By 1928 55% of the cars on the road were Model
T's. Hundreds of after market kits of all kinds were offered to allow owners to
differentiate their Model T from millions of others on the road. I think Ritzy
was one of those suppliers; they all tended to have cutesy, silly names. The
featured car's body appears to be non standard as well. This car has a Couplet
type body with a short rear deck indicating the possibility of limited rear
seating. Both the suicide doors and belt molding are non standard, as is the
visor. So this car had some ambitious add-ons. Most Model T's with complete body
change-overs ended as Speedsters or Race cars.
~Arthur Oaf, Le May MO.
Bill Rhoads writes;
The photo that I submitted was taken by me at the Horseless Carriage Club of
Missouri’s 1953 Spring Field Meet which was held in a field adjacent to and
belonging to the old St. Louis Public Schools Stadium what was located on North
Kings Highway near St. Louis Ave.
The car is a Model T ford with an after market four passenger Opera Coupe body.
The body was built in St. Louis by the Champion Ritzy Body Company. The body was
mounted on a 1923 chassis. The car belonged to one of the Horseless Carriage
Club’s founding members, Alex Deeken Sr. Mr. Deeken’s grandson Clark is still
active in the hobby and has his grandfather’s 1909 Model T today.

1:00pm – 4:00pm The Display
After the parade, cars will gather in a display honoring the biggest Girl Scout tradition… The
Cookies! Again, we are in need of as many cars from each decade that we can gather. All
cars from 1900 – 2012 are asked to display their vehicle in a secure roped off area near
Soldier’s Memorial Park.
Please no hot rods in either the parade or car display.
