The Mustang show had lots of participants on October 19. There were some quality cars in attendance at this show from the pictures I saw. Some members will be heading to the Bastrop area and conjugating with the Oldsmobile club. Wayne Crist has done an excellent job organizing cruise events this year. I have to apologize to the membership for delaying in the presentation of the car show money to the Fischer House. I was asked to take on a project at work and was limited on free time. I am now back to a more normal schedule and will be scheduling the check presentation very soon. If any members would like to come out for the special presentation, I will be sending out an e-mail once I schedule the exact date. With the ending of 2014 also comes the club business of nominating and voting on a member of the year. I will be accepting nominations for member of the year at our November meeting as well as by e-mail message. You can also call me if you so prefer. Our club is fortunate in having several deserving members so this will be a majority vote as always. Speaking of voting, club officer nominations will also be accepted on Tuesday night. Anyone that would like to take on the duties of being a club officer can be nominated or personally volunteer. Not knowing exactly how to put on such a show, we entered into it blind. It was then decided to have a few common classes and have a popular vote for Best of Show. The location was on Fredericksburg Road at a furniture store, now the Goodwill store. It was billed as the "Thanksgiving Holiday Car Show". A cool front passed through and brought a little rain, then it cleared and turned out to be a very nice afternoon. Some cars started showing up, but we still had plenty of room. What happened next turned the show around. KONO Radio at that time had a 1957 Nomad restored and was going to give it away. That car showed up along with the fellow who restored it. I was working the registration table and when he asked if he could show the Nomad, I didn't hesitate, I told him to park it out front alongside our Pontiacs. Hoping that the radio station would be notified where the Nomad was, they would begin broadcasting the location. Sure enough, that is just what happened. Once the location was mentioned, it was unbelievable how many people and cars showed up. We had to start turning the cars away. After we closed registration, more than 70 cars were officially in the show. As to the Best of Show, a Low-rider group showed up with a semi-custom 71 LeMans Sport 2 door hardtop. The young members of that group "padded" the ballot box and took home the Best of Show. We all had a good laugh about that, and said there would be changes if and when we did another show. It turned out to be a very enjoyable afternoon, was a lot of fun and we now had some experience on hosting a car show. The show for the next year was better organized, that show will be a story for another time.
