Biography Profile: Rev. James Gaither
James Gaither grew up in Aurora, Illinois, and earned a B.A. at Augustana
College (Rock Island, IL), a Master’s degree in Philosophy at the
University of Kansas, and a Th.D. from Holos University Graduate
Seminary. He is an ordained Unity Minister and has served ministries in
Collinsville, IL and, most recently, for 7.5 years in New York City as Eric
Butterworth’s successor. He also served on the faculty of the Unity
Seminary in Unity Village, MO for 20 years in the areas of metaphysics,
history, world religions and ethics. He served as President of Holos
University, as well as Professor of Theology and Ethics, from 2013-2016.
He is currently the Director of Academic and Student Affairs for the new
Unity Worldwide Spiritual Institute.
James has regularly published articles in "Unity Magazine" since 1981.
His first book, "The Essential Charles Fillmore," was published by Unity
House in 1999. His latest book is "The Hidden Realm of God: the Historical Jesus and His Healing
Philosophy". He received the Charles Fillmore Award for Visionary Leadership from Unity Worldwide
Ministries and Pastor Emeritus of the Unity Center in New York City.
Workshop: The Healing Philosophy of the Historical Jesus
Unity, more than any other denomination, has placed central emphasis on the life and teachings of Jesus
as the basis for spiritual development and healing. The consciousness of Jesus is the model for the Christ
Consciousness, just as Siddhartha Gautama was the model for the Buddha mind.
To understand the healing power of the Christ Consciousness, we must understand the teachings of the
historical Jesus, to the extent that we can extract his actual sayings from the various documents that have
recorded his sayings in various ways.
This workshop explores the most reliable accounts of sayings of Jesus and how those sayings are
connected to the healing consciousness. You will learn about modern scientific health studies that relate to
Jesus’ philosophy. Beyond that, we will work with ways to develop the healing Christ Consciousness,
based upon that philosophy.
