Formerly Known as:
ULTRA
FLIGHT
POWERED SPORT AVIATION MAGAZINE
.....is a magazine with 17 years of experience reporting on sport aviation. Beginning in 1994, UltraFlight Magazine pioneered regular reporting on aspects of aviation
that at the time were not given regular media attention.
Aircraft like powered parachutes and powered paragliders
got their earliest support from UltraFlight Magazine right
along with conventional ultralights.
UltraFlight was also the first of the aviation media
to develop a regularly broadcast radio show dedicated to
powered sport aviation, the UltraFlight Radio Show. That
show was created in 2000, before iTunes or iPods were
even introduced. It has grown with the technology to
remain at the forefront of aviation reporting in the sport
aviation market.
UltraFlight grew with the ultralight and light sport
aviation movement to what it is today, the only newsstand quality magazine completely devoted to the fun and
adventure of single and two-seat powered sport aviation.
In January of 2010, UltraFlight Magazine became Powered Sport Flying Magazine and the UltraFlight Radio Show
became the Powered Sport Flying Radio Show. The name
changes were made to reflect the larger audience and the
full range of what the formats had already grown to cover.
Today Powered Sport Flying Magazine remains one
of the few magazine that is read cover-to-cover by subscribers. It offers an independent voice on government
regulation as well as showing what many magazines
forget, the true joy of flight. It does this by showing the
adventures of people from around the country and around
the world enjoying the freedom of flight. With excellent
print quality, great editing and stunning photography, it
is a great venue in which to show off your products or
services.
Why You Should Advertise with
Powered Sport Flying Magazine
Market Focus
Of course the bottom line is to make sales. In today’s market it’s important that every dollar you spend is
aimed towards an audience who is open to buy what you
are offering. In the case of Powered Sport Flying, you are
reaching an audience who is already familiar with light
sport and ultralights, but who may be looking for that
next adventure.
One of the features of the light sport rules is the
ease of entry into different categories of flight. That has
not been lost on the sport flying public who may have
been introduced to flight with powered parachutes for
their simplicity and who now may want to start actually
traveling with their aircraft. In those cases, the pilots will
be looking for something a bit faster. The other side of
the coin is the pilot who has flown GA aircraft for years
and now wants to look for something specifically in the
sport category. They are gravitating towards a magazine
which has the same focus they now have and shows them
more of the options.
Pricing
Cost is another reason to advertise with Powered
Sport Flying. Like many companies today, the publishers of
Powered Sport Flying have had to look closely at keeping
expenses down while not sacrificing quality. That goal has
been met and that benefits both the reader and you as an
advertiser. Frankly, many magazines have not been able to
make the transition to a tougher economy and have disappeared from the field. Many of the magazines that have
remained are still charging big dollars to support large
staffs and infrastructure. That still works for them since
their primary customers are larger companies than you
will normally see in the world of light aviation.
Powered Sport Flying is structured more like the
businesses we support, with a smaller, hard-working staff
that gets the job done – just like you do!
Getting Noticed
It does little good to buy advertising in a magazine
that doesn’t get read by your potential customers. Magazines that focus on general aviation are a good place to
advertise because you are at least reaching an aviation
audience who may consider sport aircraft. However, those
magazines are not necessarily reaching the new audience
of people seeking information about light sport. We are.

These are finished document sizes. To determine trim
size, subtract 1/8” (.125”) from each side. In addition,
there is a 1/8” safety area within the trim area where
there should not be any copy or content you don’t want
to risk losing.
For example, the safety area for a full page ad is 8.00 x

The Voice of
the Industry
Well before the Sport Pilot Regulations were ever
approved, UltraFlight Radio had already been providing in
depth discussions about the news affecting the sport aviation world. With a ten year history that predates iPods,
iTunes and a lot of the technology now used to produce
it, the show has been on longer than any other sport
aviation based show and has a format that has yet to be
successfully duplicated.
For 2010, the UltraFlight Radio Show has become the
Powered Sport Flying Radio Show to accurately reflect the
topics and guests featured on the broadcasts.
The Powered Sport Flying Radio Show is dedicated to
promoting the Light Sport Aircraft Industry. Doing that
begins by providing an informative and entertaining show
for pilots and sport aviation professionals alike.
Every week, the Powered
Sport Flying Radio Show
interviews the top performers in sport aviation
from all over the world.
Even better, after the
show is broadcast, it is
archived on the web for
years so that people can
Award Winning! – In 2004 & 2005, the Ultralisten at their conveFlight Radio Show became the only radio show
ever to be recognized by the United States Ulnience.
tralight Association. They presented the show
with their Communication Award. They said in
part:
“As leaders in the area of audio communications about our sport, UltraFlight
Radio and particularly, hosts Michael
Purdy and Roy Beisswenger (USUA
AFI #A27073) has become one of the
best sources for up-to-date information.
Once a week, timely interviews with key
individuals, provide an important channel for information to the ultralight/light
sport community.”
Broadcast to thousands over the internet,
the Powered Sport Flying
Radio Show discusses
subjects of interest to
ultralight and light sport
aircraft pilots. The show
features all disciplines
including Fixed Wing,
Radio
Trike, Powered Parachute, Powered Paraglider, Glider, and
Gyroplanes. Topics like safety, flying events, and government issues are regularly featured on the show.
The show is succeeding, too. The Powered Sport
Flying Radio Show made history in the Summer of 2004 by
broadcasting live the press conference at FAA headquarters announcing the new Sport Pilot Rules. We continue
to be the best, if not the only source for live interviews
with the policy makers and players in the industry on a
world-wide basis.
But the show is more than just about sport pilot and
industry news. The Powered Sport Flying Radio Show features the fun of flying. By talking to aviation competitors,
record setters, travelers and more, we provide entertainment for pilots as well as encouragement for those who
are still just dreaming about flight.
For the technology-savvy company, the Powered Sport
Flying Radio Show offers a lot of tools to promote your
business:
• An audio ad on the show itself. With approximately15,000 targeted listeners a month, this is a great
value all by itself.
• A banner ad put on every page of the official show
web site. That is on a 400+ page web site that has every page updated weekly and is steadily growing with
more archived shows each week! It is a web site that
sees over a million hits a month as well as over 55,000
page views. The Google and other search engine benefits alone are worth the price of sponsorship.
• Yet another benefit is that your banner ad will be put
on a program e-mail that goes out weekly to well over
22,000 people in the light and ultralight sport aviation
world. That includes people in all phases of the sport.
And that is weekly, not monthly. That email gets your
ad in front of potential customers regularly.
Top Reasons for Advertising on the
Powered Sport Flying Radio Show
Reason #1
Reason #7
Target. Powered Sport Flying Radio has a highly targeted audience. Everyone listening to the show is very
interested in light sport aviation. From pilots who are old
hands to folks that may have just discovered flying for the
first time, Powered Sport Flying Radio reaches thousands
interested in our sport.
Be viral. The Powered Sport Flying Radio Show is
promoted far wider than even the house web site. Show
segments are also promoted on World Talk Radio, iTunes,
Oshkosh 360, and forums both domestic and overseas.
Your audio message is a part of each of the segment that
goes viral.
Reason #2
Reason #8
Get Visitors. Reach active listeners who will visit
your web site. Show listeners are used to visiting web
sites while they listen to the show. If your offer interests
them, they are ready and able to visit your web site. Hot
links from your ad on the web site to your web page
makes it easy for customers to get the whole marketing
message directly from you!
Customer Good Will. Be seen as supporting one
of the few free services existing for light sport aviators.
Powered Sport Flying Radio is an Award Winning Show that
is FREE to listeners. Listeners know who is supporting the
show and in turn support them.
Reason #9
Stand out. This is a unique way to deliver your message. Nowhere else can a radio message work for you like
it will on Powered Sport Flying Radio.
Price. For one low price of $375 per month, you
get all the advantages of sponsoring an Award-Winning
resource for pilots. With over 150,000 impressions, that
means you get 4 targeted exposures for every penny
spent! (About $2.50 per thousand!)
Reason #4
Reason #10
Reason #3
Spend wisely. Powered Sport Flying Radio is cost effective. The Powered Sport Flying Radio Show may be the most
popular aviation-based radio show anywhere. And at a
fraction of the cost of most print advertising, the audio
advertising spots are priced better than most internetbased shows on other niche topics. Combined with the
display ads on the web site and e-mail , it is an offer that
can’t be beat.
Be First. Today people typically start researching
aircraft ownership on the internet first. As soon as they
learn about sport aviation and get excited about it, they
can listen to hours of content from the Powered Sport Flying Radio Show..........where they will learn about you!
Reason #5
You can now receive a 30 second audio ad on the
Powered Sport Flying Radio Show and a display ad on both
the weekly e-mail (94,600 impressions) and on the web
site (55,000 impressions) for the low monthly price of
only $375! The display ad will be linked back to your web
page of choice. Your 30 second audio spot will be heard
live weekly on the Powered Sport Flying Radio Show and will
be archived with the show for future listeners.
Numbers. The Powered Sport Flying Radio Show E-mail
reaches over 22,000 people an average of 4.3 times every
month. The web site has 400+ pages that will have your
message on them and are visited 55,000+ times. There is
an average of over 15,000 listeners per month. You get at
least 150,000 exposures for one low price!
Reason #6
Flexibility. Advertise what you want to advertise,
when you want to. You can promote one product one
week and promote another the next week. Changes can
be done just hours before broadcast time.

So Many Options
Powered Sport Flying offers you a lot of ways to get
your products and services in front of the flying community. As shown we have the magazine and the radio show.
We also link to preferred customers from our web sites
and offer opportunities to appear as a guest on the radio
show. There are other ways to get visibility with Powered
Sport Flying, some at little or no cost.
Press Releases
A well-written press release will help get your
company noticed and included in both the magazine and
the radio show. Of course we are looking for stories of
interest to our readers. If you have something that our audience would enjoy hearing about, please drop us a line.
When preparing the press release, here are some things
to keep in mind:
1)Keep the press release short and simple.
About a page (250-500 words) is usually enough to get the job done.
If you don’t feel up to writing
a full press release, just
send along an email with
the idea and a few bullet points and we can
call for more detail as
we need it.
make a good story, have them submit the story. If it is
something that readers will enjoy, there is a good chance
that we may use the story. Chances get even better if
there are great photos to go with it. And they may make a
great guest for the radio show, too.
Smaller Ads
Many companies feel that they don’t want to advertise unless they can go for the spread or the full page
ad. However, it is far better to go with a smaller ad that
you can consistently run for a long time. Even though the
aviation business is seasonal, people’s reading habits are
often on a different schedule. For instance, many people
have more time to read in the wintertime. If you just
advertise in the summer, you may miss an opportunity of
presenting your message to someone who is taking the
time to read and perhaps plan for future adventures, equipment, training, or whatever it is you have to offer.
And of course if you
purchase a smaller ad for
a longer period of time,
the price becomes that
much more attractive.
If you do commit to
a smaller ad for the
year and you want to
make the ad larger for
a particular month, you
will still get a better price
for that large ad.
2)Do include the
basics in the press release.
Who, What, Where,
When, Why and How are
questions that should be
answered in the release.
Classified Advertising
3)Include images. For a magazine
press release, images can make it a better story
with more impact. At the minimum, send along a vector
art (preferable) or high dpi image of your logo for the
header of the story. Pictures of the aircraft or product,
your facility, and the people involved should also be high
dpi pictures. JPEG’s are usually just fine.
If you operate a school or sell a
smaller product, don’t forget about the classified
section of the magazine. The rates are very attractive and
the classifieds do get read. In fact, it may be worthwhile
to advertise both with both a display ad and a classified
since some people read the classifieds almost as a separate feature of the magazine.
4)Include a quote or two. At the very least, include
some contact information with someone who could be
quoted or even be a guest on the Powered Sport Flying
Radio Show.
Be Creative
Encourage Your Customers to Write
If a customer has a great story to tell about flying
your aircraft or using your product and you think it may
If you have an idea that will benefit both you and
the magazine, please don’t be shy about calling. Our
mission is to promote and educate the sport flying public
and we know there is a lot of talent in the community. We
want to work with you!
