The skin's primary functions are to serve as a barrier to the entry of microbes and viruses, and to prevent water and extracellular fluid loss. Acidic secretions from skin glands also retard the growth of fungi. Melanocytes form a second barrier: protection from the damaging effects of ultraviolet radiation. When a microbe penetrates the skin (or when the skin is breached by a cut) the inflammatory response occurs. Introduction Skin and Homeostasis Heat and cold receptors are located in the skin. When the body temperature rises, the hypothalamus sends a nerve signal to the sweat-producing skin glands, causing them to release about 1-2 liters of water per hour, cooling the body. The hypothalamus also causes dilation of the blood vessels of the skin, allowing more blood to flow into those areas, causing heat to be convected away from the skin surface. When body temperature falls, the sweat glands constrict and sweat production decreases. If the body temperature continues to fall, the body will engage in thermiogenesis, or heat generation, by raising the body's metabolic rate and by shivering. Water loss occurs in the skin by two routes. 1.evaporation 2. sweating What’s Pronalen sport Re-energizer ? --Pronalen sport Re-energizer is a marine oligosaccharide-rich active compound produced from the alga Enteromorpha compressa (L.) Nees which promotes and reinforces skin homeostasis and improves skin moisturizing thus providing refreshing effects What’s cosmetic application? 1.Daily physical activity --Moisturizing, nutritive, antiaging, revitalizing and deodorant products 2.Intense physical activity (sport and others) --Specific products for situations of skin imbalance due to temperature variations(beach, mountain, snow) or intense continued physical activity. --Products to be used before and after sporting activities. --Sun care products, sun care treatments. Entermorpha compresssa Common name: Scientific name: Enteromorpha compressa (Linnaeus) Nees von Esenbeck Family: Distribution and Habitat: Description: Ulvaceae Worldwide species, occurring essentially in the littoral zones at mid and low depths. It is frequent in ports and artificial dikes. This algas thallus is erect, 2 cm to 40 cm high and green. It has a blade-like, tubular shape, generally not branched or with few ramifications close to the base. Simultaneous actions: - Retains water and Na+, thus restoring normal extra-cellular concentrations, promoting glucose intake and maintaining the activity of the Na+-K+ pump - Restores normal intracellular K+ concentration. - Modifies Ca2+ levels to restore normal extra-cellular Ca2+ concentration Technical specifications * Pronalen PROPERTIES : refreshing agent APPLICATIONS : and deodorants. sport Re-energizer 72200 Plant osmoregulatory agent Moisturizing and Personal hygiene products, daily-use treatments Specific products aimed at restoring skin ionic balance ACTIVE MOLECULES : APPEARANCE : SOLUBILITY : DOSE : Daily physical activity: Oligosaccharides Liquid Pale yellow Soluble in aqueous solutions Personal hygiene products: 1% Daily-use treatments: 1% Anti-perspirant products, deodorants: 3% Intense physical activity: Specific products aimed at restoring skin ionic balance: 5% Example Formulation Body milk “Daily tune-up” INCI Glyceryl Stearate, ceteareth-20 Ceteareth-12, Cetearyl Alcohol Cetyl Palmitate Paraffinum liquidum Shea butter Isopropyl Palmitate Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride Cetyl Alchol Antioxidant Dimethicone Glycerin Xanthan Gum Disodium EDTA PRONALEN SPORT RE-ENERGIZER Preservative Parfum (fragrance) Aqua (water) Triethanolamine % 5.80 13.00 1.00 5.00 2.00 1.00 0.10 1.00 2.00 0.30 0.10 1.00 0.65 0.35 q.s. to 100 q.s.to pH=5.5-6.0 1.http://www.provitalgroup.com/backend/docs/product_docs/ PRONALEN_SPORT_brochure.pdf 2.http://www.emc.maricopa.edu/faculty/farabee/BIOBK/ BioBookINTEGUSYS.html 3.http://www.mayoclinic.com/images/image_popup/skin_type.jpg 4. http://www.southtexascollege.edu/nilsson/4_GB_Lecture_figs_ f/4_GB_16_Homeostasis_Fig_f/Homeostasis_TempControl.GIF
