MAYOR PAUL PISASALE
& COUNCILLORS OF THE CITY OF
IPSWICH WINTER MESSAGE
Winter is a great time in
our city as the weather
cools down and the nights
are perfect for getting out
the woollies and enjoying
some time inside.
This is also the perfect
time of year to start thinking about making
exercise a bigger part of our lives.
The cooler weather means a more
comfortable time while we are pushing
boundaries and many sporting clubs
seasons start to take off in earnest.
If new to exercise, you don’t need to kit
out in the fanciest gear or sign up for a
gym membership - a brisk walk with the
family in the evening will help you feel
fitter and healthier after just a few weeks.
This guide to everything going on around
the city over the next few months is
bursting with great ideas for all ages.
Twenty years of our performing arts Master
Classes program has seen many fantastic
performers learning from some of the
finest professional mentors in Queensland.
Come down to the Civic Centre on 15
August to see a very special performance
in celebration of this program.
Kids go Wild is always a popular treat for
the kids over the school holidays and a
great way for them to learn more about
our local environment.
Get in early as these workshops always
book out.
Entries for our iconic Enviroplan
Photographic Competition open on 5 June,
so get your cameras ready to snap some
images of local wildlife and our natural
environment. This competition has big
prizes up for grabs for adults and kids alike.
There’s no reason to stay on the couch this
Winter with so much going on. If you see
me out and about come and say hi.
Mayor Paul Pisasale

IPSWICH NAIDOC 2015
wE ALL STAND ON SACRED GROUND
Learn, Respect and Celebrate
WHICH WAY UNCLE
A small group of some of Australia’s most
respected Indigenous artists have come
together to combine more than 100 years
of song writing experience and storytelling
in an inspirational show of musical
collaboration and cultural wisdom.
Dubbed ‘Which Way Uncle’, the project
is the brainchild of Getano Bann who is a
singer, songwriter, storyteller and qualified
music therapist. Raised on the banks of the
Pioneer River in his hometown of Mackay;
music, dance, storytelling and humour
were an influential and integral part of
his childhood, growing up in an extended
Torres Strait Islander Family.
Getano is joining musical forces with
Joe Geia and Bunna Lawrie who are
both recognised and influential figures
in Indigenous music to deliver a truly
entertaining live performance at this year’s
Ipswich NAIDOC Week event.

Heavy vehicles parked in your street may be breaking the law
Council has heavy vehicle parking controls in place
to protect the safety of road users, pedestrians and

undertaken in such a manner that it does not cause
nuisance or disturbance to the community.
A heavy vehicle is defined as any vehicle with a
Gross Vehicle Mass of 4.5 tonnes or more.

and applies throughout Queensland. Heavy vehicles
can park on a roadway in built-up areas for up to an
