presidents’ Message
Teacher Appreciation Week, which runs Monday, May 7, through
Friday, May 11, always reminds us of those “room parents” who coordinated
class parties and special events in our child’s elementary school. In fact,
probably one of the things a room parent did that took the most coordination
all year occurred during Teacher Appreciation Week. Usually, the students were
asked to bring in something small each day (a flower, a treat, a card, etc.), and
then that room parent would gather everything and create a nice gift each
day for the teacher. In elementary school, it was easy to “appreciate” that one
teacher because we only had to think about one person and our child spent
the bulk of his/her school day with that one individual. Plus, the room parent
made it so easy for all of us because we were given explicit directions in what
we needed to do each day.
Now flash forward four plus years and most of our kids have six different
teachers a day. For many of us, the thought of Teacher/Staff Appreciation
Week is a thing of the past. However, the teachers, administrators, counselors,
and support staff at JHS are just as vital and influential on our kids’ education
as their primary educators. Yet, it seems that by the time our kids reach high
school many people don’t think about doing something special for a teacher
or staff member.
May is the month for us to remember and acknowledge those at JHS who have
made a positive impact on our child’s education. Please take this opportunity
to let someone know that they are appreciated. Whether it is a teacher,
administrator, counselor, secretary, custodian, cook, or other support staff
member who you want to acknowledge, your small gesture of appreciation
will bring a smile to a face and make a positive difference in someone’s day.
And remember, no matter if you are a person who likes to give a small gift,
write a hand-written note, or send an email to show your appreciation, it really
doesn’t matter how you do it but rather that you took the time to do it.

Principal’s MESSAGE
As I write this article, I am sitting on my deck overlooking Elliott Bay and
basking in a rare treat for those of us lucky to call the Pacific Northwest
home. Sun! These brief encounters with glorious weather are always
welcome after our long periods of rain. However, because these
glimpses of sun also remind me that we are inching toward the end
of the school year, they tend to strike a small chord of anxiety. How is
it possible that it is already the end of April? How can we already be
talking about End of Course assessments, Culminating Exhibitions,
prom, and graduation? I am sure many of you reading this are nodding
your head in agreement. There is still so much to be done this year! More
than ever, our students need each of us—parents, families, teachers,
and counselors—to help them stay focused in order to finish strong.
One way we can help them is to plan ahead for some important events. Please note the
following upcoming days as they pertain to your student(s):
May 7 to May 18 – AP testing
May 29 to June 1 – Early release days
May 30 – Algebra End of Course exams and retakes (morning) and CE presentations
(afternoon)
May 31 – Geometry End of Course exams and retakes (morning) and CE presentations
(afternoon)
June 1 – Biology End of Course exams
June 2 – Prom
June 14 – Last day of regular classes for seniors
June 15 – Last day of school for seniors and graduation practice for seniors
June 16 – Graduation
The End of Course (EOC) assessments are the tests that replaced the Washington Assessment
of Student Learning (WASL) and the High School Proficiency Examination (HSPE) for math
and science. The EOC Assessments will require that we adjust our school schedule so that
the assessment can be given between 7:30 and 10:30 a.m. As listed on the school calendar,
May 29 through June 2 are scheduled to be early release school days, and we will use three of
those mornings to administer the assessments. All students are expected to be in school on
May 29. All students currently enrolled in Algebra, Geometry, or Biology will test on the date
listed above. In addition, many students who were previously enrolled in one of these classes
who have either not taken or passed the test will be expected to take it. All students and
parents will receive information in mid-May regarding the days and times that their student
will be tested.

Principal’s MESSAGE
On May 30 and 31, our seniors currently enrolled in Senior Seminar will be presenting
their Culminating Exhibition (CE). CE is a graduation requirement and our seniors will
be presenting their CE project to a panel of staff and community members. Our CE
presentations will run from 11:15 a.m. until 2:15 p.m. on both May 30 and May 31. We are
currently recruiting community members to sit on our CE panels. If you are interested in
being on a CE panel please contact Ms. McClinchy at (425)385-7003.
On April 18, I had the opportunity to talk with all of our seniors as they met as a whole
class for one final time before graduation, prom, and other senior festivities commence.
I reminded them of the importance of keeping a strong focus on their final goals. I also
reminded them of the potentially damaging impacts of choices that seniors tend to be
faced with. Do I blow off my second semester classes because I’m already accepted to the
college of my choice? Do I join in on a senior prank? Do I attend a senior party I know will
have alcohol? Do I attend classes regularly even after AP tests are completed? I tried to
impress upon them the importance of finishing their senior year with pride, excellence, and
character. I reminded them that their choices can have long-range impact. I have great faith
in our students, and I walked away confident that this amazing group of seniors will set a
strong example for the junior, sophomore, and freshman classes looking to them as role
models. Thank you for supporting and encouraging them to make smart choices that will
help them finish their senior year in stellar fashion.

Superintendent’s MESSAGE
The Power of Partnerships
Thanks to the Mill Creek Rotary, the JHS Interact Club, Mill Creek Business
Association, dedicated JHS staff, students, and community volunteers, the Mill
Creek Food Bank opened its doors on April 19 as an illustration of the positive
power of partnerships. What an example! The program is unusual in a number
of ways—that it is “hosted” on a school site; that it involves so many community
groups making it possible; that it is a real “need” in a community that can be
perceived as wealthy.
Another example of the power of partnerships is the Everett Public Schools
Foundation’s schedule of student art shows and the annual high school art reception held April 16. Not
only did the Foundation choreograph the high school art gallery which graced the Educational Service
Center hallways, they also gave two scholarships—one for $500 and another for $1000 to two high
school senior artists. You can see both students’ work on the Foundation website. As it does each year, the
Foundation also allowed the superintendent to select one piece of art from the show to hang permanently
among the district’s student art collection. Cascade High senior Kyle Schuman’s piece Still Life with Little Chair
is shown on the Foundation website and, after it is professionally framed, will hang with other student art
the Foundation has been buying and framing each year for the majority of the organization’s quarter of a
century relationship with the district. The season of Foundation art shows lasts through the rest of the school
year. Middle school art will soon replace the high school art and will be on display through mid-May, when
elementary school students’ work will finish out the gallery this school year. Thank you, Foundation and
volunteers, for turning our hallways into an art gallery!
Of course, supporting the arts is just one of the ways the Foundation work enhances district work. Each year
the Foundation gives more than $32,000 for summer school tuition scholarships. Last year, 20 students
who received this Foundation support were able to graduate in 2011. This summer’s Foundation scholarships
will once again be the transformational catalyst for another group of students who might not otherwise
graduate from high school.
Plans are already in the works for this summer’s Stuff the Bus school supply drive. The Foundation
coordinates the generosity of corporate partners including Costco, Fred Meyer, QFC, Safeway, Central
Market, The Boeing Company, Northwest Plus Credit Union, Durham Transportation, Molina Healthcare, The
Rotary Club of Everett, Puget Sound Labor Agency, and Volunteers of America to systematically collect and
distribute school supplies. Approximately 1,500 supply-laden backpacks helped students start the first day of
school last September well-equipped to begin learning. Watch for information about the 2012 Stuff the Bus
being planned now.
Of course, the biggest partnership of all is that between the Foundation and the school district. Altogether,
the Foundation’s 2011-12 contributions to student and staff success in the district was $249,125—almost
eight times more than the $32,000 district/Foundation contract—a contract that has been in place since
1991 when it was originally signed for $25,000. In March, the district board of directors and the Foundation
board met to review the 27-year partnership and discuss ways to continue building upon that history of
success on behalf of the community’s young people. Details from the materials presented at the meeting are
on the Foundation website.

Familiar Faces in Different Places
In April, I announced that Dr. Peter Scott accepted the invitation to be one of the
district’s three area executive directors and to oversee the schools in the southern
region of the district. I know the decision to leave Gateway was a difficult one for Peter
and that parents and community will miss his day-to-day presence at the school. Peter
is highly regarded and widely respected by parents and his professional peers. In his
new position, he will be sharing his educational leadership and the inspiration he
sparked at Gateway to even more schools. More information about Peter and why he
is the right person to replace Jim McNally, who will be retiring in June, is in a district
news release. (The release also explains Peter’s state recognition as State Educational
Administrator of the Year.)
Replacing Peter as principal at Gateway starting in July is Shelley Petillo, who many
Gateway students will remember as their principal at Penny Creek Elementary where
she has been since 2005-06. Shelley is known for bringing together students, staff,
and families to work build educational excellence and inspire exploration to develop
students’ self-confidence. She has worked with the staff at Penny Creek to ensure
that, despite its size, it is a warm and inviting place where students can and do learn.
Shelley has also been successful in creating a nurturing and energized community for
staff that enables them to do their best work. Shelley is looking forward to building on
Peter’s leadership at Gateway and to working with many of the same students she has
supported since kindergarten.
Everett Public Schools has the finest cadre of school leaders in the state. It is an honor
to work with them and to assure you that our students—also the finest in the state—
are in good hands in our schools.
Warm wishes,
Superintendent Gary Cohn

Parents: Prepare for prom now!
Prom night and graduation parties represent high risk times for high school
students, and parents had better be prepared.
Car crashes are the leading cause of death for Washington teens. Speeding,
drug or alcohol use, and multiple passengers driving between midnight and
3 a.m. represent the deadliest combination of factors and is the prime recipe
for car crashes.
A recent study involving high school juniors and seniors across the country
showed that 90 percent of them believe that their peers are more likely to
drink and drive on prom night, yet only 29 percent thought that driving on
prom night comes with a high degree of danger.
Here are some prom night tips:
• Make sure your teen has a plan for the evening and that you know it.
• Take stock of the alcohol in your home and restrict access to it.
• Know who is driving—if it is a limo, check their policy on allowing alcohol
in the vehicle.
• Make sure that alcohol is not brought into your home or onto your
property.
• Give your teen a curfew.
• Communicate with other parents and school officials.
• Require seatbelt use.
• Do not rent hotels rooms for prom-goers.
• Refuse to supply alcohol to youth. It could cost you up to $5,000 in fines
and a year in jail!
• Discuss the school’s prom rules with your teen and the consequences for
violating them, such as risking their graduation.
• Stay up until your student returns home.
If you have any questions, please contact Lyn Lauzon, JHS Intervention
Specialist, at [email protected] or (425)385-7178.

Golden Acorn Recipients
Carol Grosvenor, Linda Pazevic, and Lisa Steckler are the
PTSA’s Golden Acorn honorees for 2012. Nominated by
many staff members and fellow volunteers, they were
honored at the April 11 PTSA meeting with plants, pins,
certificates, and congratulations.
Carol Grosvenor
Carol has always been involved with PTSA since her children
started at Jackson. Even though Carol is not on the board at
this time, she consistently comes to the board meetings to
stay informed and give her input on important matters. She
is a keen observer and critical thinker who is appreciated
for bringing important perspective to discussions as well
as asking the hard questions. Carol has served in numerous
roles for JHS PTSA including Secretary, Awards Committee,
Nominating Committee, Audit Committee, and Standing
Rules Review Committee. She has been a JHS Athletic
Booster for (Boys and Girls) Cross Country, Track, and Soccer
teams for over five years. Carol was also part of the Grad
Night Fundraising and Party Volunteer for the classes of
2011 and 2012. She helped work concessions with her
children’s class parent groups. Here is a quote from a
nomination form: “Carol has been very involved behind the
scenes through all these years that her kids have been here
at JHS. She is one of those PTSA volunteers that will always
come through when you need her and always willing to
lend a hand.”

swim meet timer for 2010-2012 as well as the NCAA and
Pac-12 swim timer in 2012. A quote from a nomination
form for Linda reads: “I’ve had the pleasure and privilege
of working alongside Linda for the past several years, and
she is among the most competent, committed and caring
volunteers in our community. She has spent and will
continue to spend countless hours dedicating her time and
skills. Simply put, the community of JHS is a better place
because of her.”
Lisa Steckler
Lisa is a Golden Acorn recipient because she has contributed
so much of her time and energy to help enrich the lives of
the students and staff at Jackson. She has shown a strong
commitment to improving the education and opportunities
of children not only at JHS but also Heatherwood Middle
School, Mill Creek Elementary School, and in the community
of Mill Creek. Lisa has been a strong advocate for the
students, staff, and schools. She puts in an enormous amount
of time volunteering at the school sites and also at home
coordinating and organizing programs, doing paperwork,
and making phone calls. Lisa has been the PTSA Co-Secretary
at JHS since 2009. She is on the Jackson Leadership Council
as a Parent Representative. She coordinates the Jackson
Wolf Tracks monthly Staff Spotlight. She is a Theater Society
booster parent and has helped with meals, finding props,
and costumes. Lisa is a Choir Booster and was Co-President
in 2009-2010. These are just a few of the ways Lisa helps at
Jackson. In addition to all she does at Jackson, Lisa serves on
several committees at Heatherwood Middle School including
Program Chair, Heatherwood Awards Committee, and Band
Booster Parent Volunteer. In our community, Lisa is a Scout
Co-Leader. She was also an active volunteer at Mill Creek
Elementary. Here are two quotes from the nomination forms
regarding Lisa: “I believe Lisa deserves recognition for her
support for our schools and community. She’s an excellent
role model and citizen.”“Her positive attitude has left a great
impression on me and others.”
Linda Pazevic
Linda is being recognized as a 2012 Golden Acorn Award
recipient for her leadership and ability to think on her feet
while being mindful of what is best for the students. Linda has
been a class act volunteer in the Mill Creek community since
her children began school in the area 15 years ago. At each
school—elementary, middle, and high school—Linda has
been an active volunteer. Her volunteer service includes JHS
PTSA Co-President, Scholarship Chair, Parent Representative on
the Jackson Leadership Committee, Class of 2010 Grad Night
Party Committee Treasurer, and JHS Athletic Booster for Swim,
Cross Country, Track, and Soccer. Linda is also responsible for
collaborating on new programs at JHS to help students and
parents feel more comfortable and connected to the school
with new student Welcome Bags, Birthday Grams, and Coffee
with the Principal. Linda also was active on Heatherwood
Middle School’s PTA as President and Vice President of
Ways and Means and served as PTA President at Mill Creek

The Wall
Submitted by Clara Kapustka, club publicist
Jackson is small. We have a population of approximately 2,000 students. In comparison to
the world, our school is merely a speck on the globe. The problems of break-ups, what to
wear to school, and who is the most popular are some of the most miniscule issues in the
world—and a portion of JHS students have come to realize this from “The Wall” project.
The Wall idea sprang from a “Genocide Project” presented to Ms. Kalina’s (our current
adviser) Honors English 2 class. Some inspired students believed that supporting the
people of the world needed to be emphasized beyond the classroom. The five students
who initiated this organization fashioned a mission statement: “Raising awareness will
generate a chain reaction of tackling the problems around the world.”
This simple idea has now evolved into something much greater. Roughly 30 students
have joined the meetings since January and shared their thoughts on how to begin
saving the world right at our own Jackson High School. Mr. Cheshire has approved a wall
near the attendance office to be decorated with statistics, stories, regions, and many
other ideas regarding awareness of disasters worldwide. However, the ideas have not
stopped at the decoration of the wall. Videos, posters, and, most importantly, action have
become an increasing focus during the meetings. We know our small group must be
transformed into something more sophisticated in order to be sufficient.
Becoming a club at Jackson originally seemed like an easy solution, but it has, quite
frankly, been difficult. We are working through obstacles because we know that we must
obtain the resources available to ASB clubs in order to create The Wall in the first place.
We are confident that a club will be approved because students coming together for a
good cause to genuinely help our planet is worthy of acceptance by ASB.
For more information regarding The Wall organization and to help us obtain ASB status,
please come to our meetings in the school library every Friday from 2:10 to 3:10. All
students are welcome. Problems as large as world hunger, medical attention, and overall
awareness can only be tackled one step at a time. The small community of Jackson is able
to make an impact on these issues through the help of this organization.
“Raising awareness will generate
a chain reaction of tackling the
problems around the world.”

Hi-Q Club Finishes Season Strong
Is your student intelligent and quickminded? Do they retain knowledge, are
they interested in variety of subjects,
and are they willing to study outside of
school? If so, they may want to join the
Jackson Hi-Q Club. Hi-Q is the oldest
continuous academic quiz competition
for high school students in the nation.
The Everett Region Hi-Q program is the
only one of its kind on the West Coast.
Questions are based primarily on the
content of 14 standard high school
courses: American History, American
Government, Art History, Biology,
Chemistry, Current Events, Geography,
Literature, Mathematics, Physics,
Shakespeare, and World History.
JHS Hi-Q, led by English teacher Craig
Bowen, meets Thursdays after school.
The team matches wits against other
local high schools in three regular
season competitions and a district
playoff. This year, after finishing first
during the regular season, the Jackson
High School Hi-Q team hosted the
regional/state finals on April 19. The
Jackson team placed second, just
one point behind first place finisher
Archbishop Murphy High School, so
will not move on to state competition
as it has in previous years. Last year, JHS
Hi-Q took second in state. The previous
year, the team placed third.
The club sells Entertainment Books as
a fundraiser and performs community
service by tutoring local students and
helping with Oktoberfest. For more

The Mill Creek Food Bank grew out of the recognition
that one out of every five students at JHS relies on free

Another new recognition program launched for the
fall semester is called Tenacious T‑Wolves. These are
students who have raised their grades by 1.0 in one
semester. There are no restrictions on a beginning GPA
as we encourage students to be proud of their tenacity
and resolve to reach new academic goals.
Large banners displaying the names of students on
the Honor Roll and Tenacious T‑Wolves list are hanging
in the front entrance so all who enter Jackson have
an instant snapshot of the school’s academic pride.
Congratulations to the many students who worked hard
to make it on the Honor Roll. Each semester GPAs will be
calculated (for just that semester) and a new group of
Honor Roll students will be recognized.
Note: Not all names are listed below due to parental
privacy concerns.

Kudos to Art Students
Submitted by Julie Long, JHS Art Teacher
The annual Everett Public Schools High School
Art Show was recently on display in the Everett
Education Service Center. The artworks submitted
by Jackson art students made an impressive
addition to the show, and the students from Jackson
received a large number of awards and recognition.
Earning Best of Show was Soyoung Son, a
sophomore, whose graphite drawing entitled “Root
and Hand” visually describes the effects of humanity
on nature with the imagery of trees.
The drawing entries in the category of Beginning
Drawing were led by Jessica Zhuge, who took
First Place, and Christina Kim, who earned Second
Place. In that category, Emily Tasaka, Jessica
Zhuge, Amanda Tinoco, Lidia Nevskaya, Christina
Kim, Katelyn L., Ramneek Deol, Mariah Wilson,
Daisy Lee, Sierra White, Josiah Budd, and Lillian
Budd received Honorable Mention recognition. In
the category of Advanced Drawing and Charcoal,
Rachel Butler also earned Honorable Mention.

Desserts Needed for JHS Senior
Departmental Awards Night
placed on the distribution list: student name, parent
name and email address.
Calling all bakers!
Thank you, and look for more information in the backto-school packets that will be sent out in August.
You can help our JHS seniors and their families
during an important and busy time of year for them.
One of the special events honoring seniors is the
Jackson High School Senior Departmental Awards
Night on May 31. This is a semi-formal event in
which 34 seniors will be recognized by the academic
departments at Jackson High School.
Attention: Class of 2014 Parents
Save the date and your junk! Class of 2014’s next
fundraiser is the Mill Creek Garage Sale on Saturday,
May 5. We are looking for donations to sell as well
as parent and student volunteers. You can save your
donations until the event or bring them to Jackson
closer to the date. If you are interested in volunteering
or donating, please contact the class officers at
[email protected].
We need 22 “ready-to-serve” desserts delivered
to the JHS main office by 2 p.m. on Thursday, May
31. Examples of ready-to-serve desserts include
brownies, lemon bars, crème puffs, cookies, etc.
Please let JHS Volunteer Coordinator, Shonda
Reinikka ([email protected]) know if you
are available to provide a ready-to-serve dessert for
the evening. Thank you.
Attention: Class of 2013 Parents
Note: Corrected Date for
Inspiration Night is June 14
The Class of 2013 Parent Group will be looking for
volunteers to help with both Inspiration Night and
graduation for the class of 2012 this coming June.
Inspiration Night will be held on the evening of June 14
at Gold Creek Church, and graduation is on June 16 at
4 p.m. at the Everett Events Center. Please be watching
for an email letting you know how to sign up if you
are able to help. Having parents from the class of 2013
help with these events allows the parents of seniors to
celebrate and enjoy the festivities!
Looking for Parents of Next Year’s
Sophomore Class!
With the end of the school year approaching, it’s
time for parents of this year’s freshman class to start
thinking about forming a JHS Parent Group for the
Class of 2015. Parent groups for each class should
be formed no later than the beginning of sophomore
year to start planning for a “safe and sane” all-night
graduation party that the kids can attend right after
graduation. Next fall, a general parent meeting will be
scheduled to begin the planning process for a 2015
Graduates’ Grad Night Party. Graduation may still
seem a long way off, but it will truly be here before
you know it. Executive committee consists of two
co-chairs, a treasurer, and a secretary. There are also
sub-committees such as those who are in charge of
ticket sales, chaperones, bus screener, concessions
volunteer coordinator, and prizes.
If you would like to receive information
and stay informed, please provide the
following information to our email account
at [email protected] and you will be

The flyer for the class of 2013 “Safe & Sane All-Night
Graduation Party” is included in this newsletter. Given
the amount of planning required for this party, it is
helpful if we have an idea of how many students will
be participating. If you have not done so yet, please
complete the paperwork and send either full or partial
payment soon. If you have not been receiving the
emails for the class of 2013 parents regarding volunteer
opportunities (e.g., concessions) or Class of 2013 Parent
Group general meetings and would like to receive those
emails, please email [email protected] and
we will add you to the distribution list. If you have any
questions regarding the class of 2013 graduation night
party, please send email to the email address above.

The Germans Are Coming! Travel and Hosting Opportunity
JHS has participated in GAPP (German American
Partnership Program) for over 10 years. We join
with Cascade High School, and our partner school
in Germany is the Michendorf Gymnasium located
outside of Potsdam. Every other year students
from Michendorf travel to Washington State for
three weeks. The summer of that same school year,
German students from both JHS and CHS travel
to Germany for almost four weeks. Unfortunately,
not all students traveling to Germany can host
their German partner, so we find it necessary to
find alternative housing for a few German students
for the duration of their stay. We have started the
application process for students of German who
want to travel to Germany the summer of 2013
and for students who would like to host a student
from Michendorf from September 15 – October 3,
2012. Your student need not be enrolled in German
for you to host; however, enrollment in German is
necessary to travel to Germany. If you are interested
in the program or in hosting, please email Frau
Kelly Dietsch at [email protected] for more
information. We would like to have all hosting
arrangements made before summer break begins at
the end of June.

Students Attend Journalism Convention
Fourteen journalism students from Mr. Trueit’s
yearbook class and Ms. McEntire’s student
newspaper class recently traveled to Seattle to
attend the Journalism Education Association (JEA)
and National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA)
Spring National High School Journalism Convention.
2012 awards from the Scholastic Press Association of
College Point, New York. The stiqayu won “1st Place
with Merit” (the highest award) for the newspaper
overall and an “Outstanding Excellence” award in the
newsmagazine category.
Jackson’s award-winning yearbook staff learned tips
to help them reach their goal of continued yearbook
excellence. They greeted representatives from
Walsworth, the company that prints the school’s
yearbook, as well as attended many lectures and
seminars including one featuring a well-known
cartoonist.
Held April 12-15 at the Sheraton Seattle and
Washington State Convention Center, the
“Journalism on the Edge” event featured speakers—
including Ms. McEntire, who spoke on the benefits
of taking a journalism class—as well as media swap
shops, writing competitions, consultations with
industry pros, keynote speakers, exhibits, and a
trade show.
At the trade exhibit, students were given free
sweatshirts, tote bags, backpacks, candy, buttons,
college recruitment materials, writing contest
information, and other items from publishers,
printers, yearbook companies, universities, web
hosts, free speech organizations, and other
journalism-related resources.
Students on the stiqayu staff learned from a
newspaper expert and writing judge how to
improve the newspaper’s content and design.
According to Editor-in-Chief Whitney Carter, the staff
plans to focus on using higher quality photos while
continuing to focus on Fair Use practices. The paper
received high marks for design and won two spring
Next year’s convention will be held in San Francisco.

The elected members to the Nominating Committee were responsible for
nominating the slate of Executive Officers leading the PTSA in 2012‑13. We give a
huge shout-out to Carol Grosvenor and Patti Betz for the countless hours they
spent considering candidates to recommend for election to the board at our April
meeting. The newly elected Executive Committee is already off and running as they
plan for the next school year.
The Awards Committee was appointed to take charge of the selection of the 2012
JHS PTSA Awards. This committee worked hard to get nomination forms to the JHS
community of students, staff, parents, coaches, and advisers. Hats off to Lori Taylor,
Mitzi Larrick, PTSA Student Rep Anna Smith, and PTSA Staff Rep Torri McEntire
for their time spent soliciting nominations, selecting the recipients, and making
memorable presentations. (Read about this year’s Outstanding Educators and
Golden Acorn winners on pages 9 and 10.)
Thank you to Jeanni Thomas, Emily Waite, Muriel Cooper, and Eva Raymond for
supplying treats for JLC’s April 18 Coffee with the Principal. Thank you for donating
your time, your talents, and your baking skills to this event.

Parents of the Class of 2016 Given a Special Welcome
On April 18, the JHS administrative team sat down for a cozy evening
with parents of next year’s freshman class. Each principal gave an
introduction and talked about their area of responsibility. Then the
parents learned about what they can expect when their student
enters Jackson High next fall. The night ended with a Q & A session.
DECA students greeted parents and ran a spirit wear sales table
where parents purchased Jackson clothing and gear for their future
Timberwolves. Jackson High is proud to welcome the families of the
Class of 2016!
