EPDs All of the EPDs printed in this catalog are the latest available. The average EPDs for the Simbrah breed are as follows: Ave. EPDs: BW WW YW MM MWW API TI 2.4 28.6 46.4 2.6 16.9 75.0 47.0 Glossary All-purpose Index (API): Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both Angus first–calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade and yield. Terminal Index (TI): Evaluates sire for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield. Using API and TI: First, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then just as with EPDs zero in on the unit difference between the bulls. The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a +50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. X 4 yr.=$6,000). A percentileranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed. For percentile rankings or more detailed information about EPDs and $ indexes visit www.simmental.org. Partnership Lots In the case of bull partnership lots, the new partner will have first choice to decide what 60 days they will be able to breed the bull. All decisions relating to the possession, showing, promotion, collecting of semen, and marketing will be mutually agreed upon prior to the transaction with both parties dividing all future expenses and net revenue. Female partnership lots will be owned 50/50 with all future production being coowned. The partner with possession will receive $250 per year for maintenance from the other partner. A partner that is selling their interest must give the other partner the right to match any bona fide guaranteed offer prior to selling their interest to a third party. Contract on these lots will be available on sale day. Sale Terms and Conditions All cattle sell under the ASA terms and conditions. Copies will be available on sale day. Sale Participants Triple P Ranch Triple P is proud of our history in the junior program and proud of our foundation cattle. We graciously invite you to be a part of our legacy and when you are in the Houston area, please come visit. Here’s to another great year in Simbrah cattle. La Muneca Cattle Co. Welcome to Synergy IV, a great Simbrah event that features quality cattle, a phenomenal junior program and some really nice folks. We created MAS, which is what SYNERGY is patterned after in an effort to unite Simbrah breeders to grow the breed. In just six years, there has been over $160,000 in premiums awarded to Simbrah juniors, over $3.5 million worth of Simbrahs sold and many new breeders established at these nine events. La Muneca Cattle Co. is owned by the Carlos & Sister Guerra family. We raise registered Simbrahs, Braunviehs, Polled Brahman and are creating a new breed called Simbravieh. Having been raised on a commercial cattle ranch provided us with the basics of producing no nonsense, easy keeping, functional, gentle cattle with plenty of muscle and structural soundness. Having been in the registered business since 1963 has taught us the importance of pedigrees, performance, promotion and people. We love working with juniors and are proud of our junior program considered the most supportive in the country. Our LMC sponsored junior shows will offer $100,000 in premiums this next show year. Please check out our website at wwww.lamunecacattle. com THANKS for supporting SYNERGY IV. Triple J Ranch Triple J Ranch owned by the Tortorice family, is located near Beaumont, Texas. We have been breeding Simbrahs for over 25 years. Our emphasis is on proven genetics and phenotypically correct cattle. We keep our herd numbers low, so that we can pay particular attention to each animal as we strive towards perfection. With embryo transfer, we have been able to add the genetics of some proven cow families. We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of babies carrying the genetics of Priceless and Dream On, She Moves and Spectrum, as well as Pure Diamond and Thunderstruck. Our program is directed by Tim Smith, and we feel that his guidance and our hard work is reaping dividends. Synergy is a relaxed, fun weekend and we are so glad you have an interest in this event. Come see us, we’d love to share a cup of coffee and talk cattle. We think you’ll readily see why we are excited about our program and the breed. BetM Ranch Hagan Cattle Company Our ranch name stands for each family member’s name (Ben/Ernesto/Tessa/Marty) and is a cattle and quarter horse operation headquartered in Castroville, Texas. Over the past six years we have acquired some of the best of Simbrah, Simbravieh and Braunvieh through our numerous purchases at MAS, Synergy, The International Sale, Broken Oak Ranch’s Production Sale and Vieh Fest. Over the last couple of years we have utilized embryo transfer and artificial insemination to provide these breeds with top of the line genetics. Our goal is to increase our numbers all the while continuing to focus on nothing but the best genetics the breed has to offer. We are excited about the future because we can see our young herd starting to improve our calf crop and our bottom line each and every year with the best yet to come. We have a solid offering this year out of some of our best young cattle and invite you to study them and let us know if we can assist you in any way. If ever in the San Antonio area give our manager Ted Tschirhart a call at (210) 827-7949 and come visit us in Castroville, we would appreciate the opportunity to show you our stock. We would like to thank our sale host, Tim Smith for all that he does and we hope you can join us for what is shaping up to be a great SYNERGY IV. Cattle have always been a part of our lives as we are involved in the registered, commercial and sale barn segments of the beef cattle. Our registered program started as an extension of our boys, Reinhard and Reese’s show projects. Our seedstock program has become synonymous with show ring champions, with many candidates headed to the winner’s circle. All three generations of our family want to welcome you to the sale and thank you for your interest in Simbrah. Burch Farms Our herd continues to grow, but more importantly our quality continues to improve and deepen in our herd. We are impressed with the calves we have on the ground from our senior sire, Charismatic and are anticipating great calves from our junior sire, Smith Satisfies. We have upped our embryo efforts and we are excited about the quality we have and that is coming. Welcome to Simbrah and to Synergy! 2 Tres Potrillos Ranch Diamond RF Farms The Gonzalez family says welcome to Synergy. We have only been breeding cattle for six years and it all started with a show heifer purchase for our son, Aaron. By breeding the best to the best and concentrating on pedigree, production and profit, we now have over 200 head of Simbrah seedstock. Our sire power includes PRR Ammo, LMC No Limit and RFI Thunderstruck. Our ranch is located just north of Rio Grande City in Starr, Texas. We at Diamond RF Farms would like to say thank you to those who have continued to support Simbrah Synergy, and for those who are experiencing Synergy for the first time, welcome and we look forward to a great sale and show. This is our third year to be a member of Simbrah Synergy and we feel like we have brought a very dynamic line up of cattle for this year’s Synergy Sale. About 11 years ago. we entered the world of Simgenetics and today we continue to build a quality Simbrah herd, while maintaining a few elite Simmental donors. Our focus is and will always be on maintaining the integrity and highest quality genetics in our herd. Our genetics presently feature the popular sires of Sargeant, Red Moves, Nu Wave, Nu Approach and our donors are equally impressive. Please feel free to visit with us at anytime about our lots in Synergy or go to our website www.diamondrffarms.com. Reavis Farms We are a diversified family operation with Simbrahs, cotton, grain sorghum, onions and watermelons. We have been involved with Simbrahs since 1987 and continue to be excited about the breed. We have our best calves, yet, on the ground from sires including Charismatic, Nu Wave II, Sargeant,Smith Evan, RFI Thunderstruck and Smith Also N Red. We continue to add donor power to our home raised RFI Smith Tinkerbell, the 2009 San Antonio Grand Champion and the 2009 AJSR Champion. Recent Reavis female standouts include RFI Ritzy, the 2011 National Champion Female for Winston Walters and RFI Smith Fresh Approach, the 2011 National Reserve Grand Champion Female. We are very proud of our offering for Synergy IV and extend an invitation to you to the fall event of the breed. McCrary Farms This marks our 12th year as Simbrah breeders and we continue to make select purchases to add to the quality of the program and breed some of the best sire power in the breed. Our initial purchase of 35 head from Smith Genetics was largely Simmental and three-quarter females. Our numbers are now reaching close to 100 females with sire genetics of Smith NF Sargeant, Smith Isgrig Charismatic, Smith McCrary Andy Black and Smith McCrary Matt, who was the 2009 International Grand Champion Simmental bull. Our place is located in northeast Texas in the town of DeKalb, just a few miles from the Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana borders near Texarkana. Come see us. Baring Cattle Company All of us at Baring Cattle Company want to welcome you to Synergy IV and all the activities associated with this event. Our family has deep roots in agriculture and we are proud to be the fourth and fifth generations to ranch in Texas. We are pleased with the cattle we have assembled in our herd and the predictability we are producing. We are located just outside of San Antonio, Texas at Elmendorf and we would love to have you visit us when you’re in the Alamo City. Wentz Farming Co. I (Bud) began breeding Simbrahs, literally before they were even called Brahmentals. I was even there for the vote to include them in the ASA Registry. I was impressed then, and today I am even more impressed by this great breed. In the 1990’s, I decided it was time to retire and so I dispersed my cattle, well I wasn’t ready to retire and I sure wasn’t ready to not be involved with Simbrahs. So my wife, Lupita and I, began rebuilding our program. It didn’t take us a long to realize the quality of the breed was far superior to what it had been and that we needed to acquire top genetics. We believe we have done that and the results speak for themselves. We have the great females Oprah, Diva, Rita and Joliet in our herd and we are so excited about their calves. We have also acquired the sire power of Smith Isgrig Charismatic and through partnerships have access to other great bulls of the breed. We are honored to be involved with Simbrah and Synergy IV. Thank you Tim for what you do for this breed! 3 Pine Ridge Ranch Pine Ridge is an industry leading genetic ranch whose purpose is to breed the most efficient hot weather cow….. with a most acceptable carcass. We are utilizing a breeding formula with over 50 breeding characteristics. During the last 30 years, Pine Ridge developed a leading hot weather environmental cow with a very valuable carcass. Recently, Pine Ridge has statistically achieved its carcass goal: 100% choice, 100% YG 1, 2, and 3. We believe that we have eliminated the YG 4, 5 carcass through genetic identification. In addition, the Pine Ridge carcass is very acceptably tender. We have no known genetic defects and do not line bred. A broad genetic base has been utilized with frequent introduction of worldwide genetics from fellow Simmental and Simbrah breeders. Internationally known for high quality Simbrah, Pine Ridge was the number one exporter to Mexico of all USA breeders and all USA breeds in 2008. Pine Ridge has provided Simbrah calves to junior exhibitors helping win the coveted Texas Junior Livestock Association Simbrah Grand Championship for many years. Recently, Pine Ridge junior members have won Reserve Grand Championships at the Synergy, Houston, San Antonio, Fort Worth, and Grand Championships at Four States and the State Fair of Texas. Pine Ridge consists of 1434 acres in Athens, Texas and has approximately 600 Simbrah for fellow breeders to study and purchase. After 21 ranch sales ending in 2003, we now market by private treaty. Come visit and explore our unique genetic program. www.simbrah.com Smith Farms Ronnie Smith’s love for Simgenetics can be traced back to Simmental’s arrival in the U.S. He built a Simmental herd and was also a breeder of Brahmentals, which was the original name of today’s Simbrahs. In addition, for more than 10 years, he was involved with SimAngus genetics in New Mexico. Today, he and his wife, Susan are focusing their efforts on raising Simbrahs. Their herd sire battery is anchored by two breed greats, Smith Nu Wave II and Sargeant. Both of these bulls are top ranking EPD bulls in the Simbrah breed and have claimed the number one or number two ranking overall for the past three years. Females lining their embryo transfer program include a LMC She Moves daughter, as well as the 2011 Houston Junior Show Grand Champion Female and the 2011 MAS Champion. Smith Farms has also purchased embryos from the Smith Bella Bella cow that won every major and junior show in Texas and a flush in the great Diva, the dam of Dream Girl, who also won the purple at all the Texas shows. In addition, they are maintaining an elite herd of ¼ x ¾ foundation females for the purpose of outcrossing new bloodlines into their Simbrah herd. Ronnie and Susan are excited to be part of Synergy and invite you to visit their program at www.smithfarmsdentontx. com or come to the ranch, outside of Denton, Texas, just 35 miles north of Fort Worth. Smith Genetics I want to thank everyone for your involvement in Synergy. The success of events I, II, and III were overwhelming and I believe you will see an even higher level of quality in Synergy IV’s offering. Smith Genetics includes Simbrah, Simmental and a registered horse division in my home state of Kentucky. Smith Genetics has developed a number of elite cow families and we are proud to be the breeders of the following sires, who are being utilized heavily in this breed: Smith Nu Wave I and II, Charismatic, Evan, Nu Approach, Satisfies, Ronen, Andy, Matt and William. I am proud to host Synergy and want to extend a big welcome to you to the event and to Smith Genetics. 2010 Purebred Simbrah Ch. Heifer exhibited by Jane Hunt. She was campaigned by Jordan Grahmann, who paid $7,000 for a one-third interest when she was just a baby at a MAS sale and made a lot of money with her. Another full sib won MAS V for Jane Hunt and later sold to Wentz Farming for $25,000. A full sib, Wave Amigo is doing Louie and us a great job as proven by the Lot 25 heifer. This lot all started when Victor encouraged our ole buddy Ronnie Smith to buy a flush that LMC-WFC sold out of LMC Diva (a JW Black champion) at MAS V. Ronnie bought the flush and flushed her to the San Antonio Champion LMC HS Rocco (another JW Black champion) and produced five great calves. We bought all five calves this spring and are excited about their potential with them being a half brother x half sister mating. We have sold a full sister to Victoria Villanueva and another to Kallie Fuchs – both of which are outstanding females. We plan to show both bulls next spring and look for them to be major league competitors. They have the look, the bone, the muscle and a great muscle to sheath ratio. Who would have ever thought 20 years ago that we could breed this much bone into a bull calf and yet have this tight of a sheath. LMC has bred and shown 12 of the past 16 Houston Bull Champions (many in partnerships) with our clients having shown three more out of LMC bulls for a 15 of 16 record which will stand for a long time. The only way to get semen on these bulls will be to buy a semen interest in the bulls or females from the bull owners. To most people this heifer seems just like every other Simbrah female; however, once you study her pedigree you will see that Just A Dream is a halfblood female. That’s right this solid red, power packed female is a halfblood, and now you can see why it will be hard to get rid of this girl come sale day. I’ve traveled to many ranches, farms, and shows in my day and not one time have I encountered a halfblood female this special. Starting at the ground like any good stockman should, Just a Dream will impress you with her flexibility, and stoutness she posses at the surface. After that she will impress the best of us with her nearly perfect front end, which blends into her ever so massive rib design. To finish things off Just A Dream will leave you wanting more as you study her levelness and power from behind. As you can see, it’s no coincidence this heifer is named Just A Dream. From a pedigree aspect she is sired by a Red Bullet son we call Mr. KSU, who is now the senior herd sire for Marek Farms Inc. Just a Dreams mother, who we call Dreams Come True, was chosen by the Val Walters family to be his daughters lead off heifer on her way to winning several championships and ultimately capturing the TJLA Title. Reavis Farms realized the maternal power this cow family offers and, purchased LMC RF Cut Diamond, a ¾ SM X ¼ BR, OMF Long Cut sired female in MAS 2010 that demanded top dollar, as well and La Blanquita decided to diversify their genetic portfolio and purchased RJFF Made You Look, a ¾ SM X ¼ BR, STF Dominique sired female that was a sale favorite at Synergy III and demanded a very respectable $7,500.
