September 2013 Membership Newsletter P.O. Box 759 101 S. 2nd Street, Ste. E 918-423-2550 Fax: 918-423-1345 www.mcalester.org FRIEND US ON FACEBOOK!!!! FOLLOW US ON TWITTER @mactownchamber From the CEO/President Published by: McAlester Area Chamber of Commerce Many times, the Chamber of Commerce is used as a reference of credibility, however the Chamber office and Board of Directors is not aware of the situation. We encourage you and your business to always contact our office with any questions regarding the endorsement of these sales. Working together will not help to protect your advertising budget and bottom line; it will also help to ensure that our local dollars are not being manipulated to areas where they will not have an impact. We have received many comments from our Chamber members and other businesses regarding advertisement sales using the Chamber as a credibility reference. Please remember that any ad sales supported by the Chamber will be: for Chamber publications, preceded by an endorsement letter and email from the Chamber of Commerce to our membership, and advertised by an endorsement on the front page of our website www.mcalester.org. As always, if you have any questions or concerns we encourage you to contact the Chamber staff or Board of Directors at any time. P.S. IT’S BUFFALO FOOTBALL TIME!!!!! Join us every game day morning at First National Bank on Choctaw Ave. at 8:15 am for the Coffee with the Coach radio interview!! Yours in Business, Tanaye Harvanek, CEO/President From the Board of Directors I hope everyone is gearing up for a beautiful fall. As the school year begins, I would like to remind everyone to pay close attention to the increased traffic particularly around schools. I would also encourage each of you to reserve a booth for the 7th annual College and Career Expo hosted by Eastern Oklahoma State College, Kiamichi Technology Center, Pride in McAlester, McAlester Regional Health Center, McAlester Chamber, McAlester Public Schools, The City of McAlester, and EOSC GEAR UP for Success. The College and Career Expo is a hands-on experience designed to get eighth grade students to think about their future education and career goals and take the necessary steps now to work toward them. More than 1250 students from 34 schools attended this event last year. Exhibitors are able to share a variety of information about their business including the education and training needed for specific jobs. The time and effort you put into providing this opportunity for our area eighth grade students could truly change their lives. I also want to express my gratitude to the staff from the Chamber for their hard work. I am excited that the staff and board are working together to improve the opportunities for our business community in McAlester. I would encourage each of you to take advantage of all the Chamber has to offer and if you have any needs that are not being met to contact the staff or a Chamber Board Member. Located at 113 E Choctaw Ave Dottie’s Phone: 918-426-3777 Being in the photography business for 13 years I've seen a lot of sweet kids come through and had heard over and over how much McAlester needed a children’s boutique. It's been something that I've wanted to do for a very long time but with a busy studio I had to wait until I had more time on my hands. This past year we opened Dottie's in our beautiful Historic Downtown. I had to have it downtown. The whole idea around Dottie's was to have store that reminded me of shopping downtown when I was a little girl. Each store was so unique and I can remember almost every Saturday shopping with my friend Kristie down here. This is how I got the name Dottie's. When my life long friend and shopping buddy became a Aunt for this first time her nephew always and still to this day calls her Dottie. I just thought the name was perfect! I wanted it to have a lot of retail that would be good not only for children but momma's too. We also want Dottie's to be a fun place for kids to shop. We have so many neat things for kids to look at while they are here. From a pink VW bug that looks like it's coming out of the wall to flying pigs and many more fun items they can see. If you haven't been in please come by and check out our fun store. It's like nothing you have seen around here. We have several exclusive lines to our area such as Persnickety, Petunia Pickle Bottom, Kapital K (boys line) and this spring watch out for Giggle Moon and Mustard Pie. You won't be able to find these lines anywhere else in our area. Also if you have little boys do not shy away from coming in. We just added a whole new boys section and have several new clothing lines, books, and toys made just for your sweet boys.
