ISSN 1595-1685 APRIL 07, 2015 VOL. 8 NO.13 The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka Professor Joseph Eberendu Ahaneku, FAS has appointed Professor Innocent O. Onyeyili as the Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Administration. The appointment became necessary following the expiration of the two year term of Prof. Greg C. Nwakoby. Prof. Onyeyili is of Department of Civil Engineering and Chairman, Committee on Civil Works. Until his appointment Prof. Onyeyili was one time Dean of Faculty of Engineering. The appointment takes effect from 3rd April, 2015. On April 22, 2015 all women in the University will mark Women’s day – a day set out to celebrate the contributions of all women to the growth of this University and our society in general. The Vice-Chancellor has already approved this day and all female staff of the University are getting ready for this special day. The Youth Corpers posted to the University on one year compulsory national service have sent a letter of appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. J.E. Ahaneku, FAS for his magnanimity in increasing the monthly stipend of Corpers from N5000 to N10, 000 with effect from February, 2015. In a release the Corpers’ Liaison Officer in the University, Akude Bibian Chioma prayed God to continue to guide the Vice-Chancellor in all his undertakings. The Corpers also promised to redouble their efforts in the service to the University. The second semester commences on Wednesday April 8, 2015. All lectures will begin by Monday, April 13 2015. By Wednesday June 3, 2015, UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Eberendu Ahaneku, FAS will be one year in office as the 5th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University. The Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) has lined up activities for the celebration of the 1st year in office. The programme will start on Sunday, May 31, 2015 with a Church Service. The VC has directed for the withdrawal of the initial publication titled “Invitation for Adverts, Congratulatory and Goodwill Messages in One year Anniversary Magazine” and has replaced same with a call for all Directors, Deans, HODs and Unit Heads to send in their progress report and proposals for our next year’s (year 2) action plan. The Vice-Chancellor Prof. Joseph E. Ahaneku, from external control by politicians, and to FAS has admonished members of the shun all forms of violence that will mar the Students’ Union Executive members to desist good image of the University. Quote: There is no mistake so great as the mistake of not going on. – William Blake. 1 The Vice-Chancellor gave this admonition at a meeting with the Dean of Student Affairs and members of the students' Judicial Council, to appraise and assess their performances in office and to guide them on the proper channel of information and communication. The Vice-Chancellor while admonishing the students reminded them of their fundamental reason of being in the university which is to study. He charged students to be focused in the pursuit of academics, instead of unionism. He stressed that a good academic footing would make better people in the society. Prof. Ahaneku also urged the students to be role models worthy of emulation. He advised members of the students' Union Government to respect constituted authority in and around the campus, to be upright in their leadership, and to put God first in all their dealings. The University boss also warned the students not to be part of the group that would be used to destabilize unity in the University and in the nation. The Dean of students' Affair Prof. Kenn Nwogu reassured the University that the students will work to be better students both in academic and attitude. He also assured the students of the University’s commitment towards their welfare, which is paramount. He thanked the Vice-Chancellor for his support and commitments towards the welfare of students in the University and the recent repairs of some dilapidated structures in the school hostels. In a vote of thanks, the president of the Students' Union Government Comrade Noble Eyisi thanked the Vice-Chancellor for his fatherly advice and assured the university that the executive will do all in their powers to live above board. As informed by the Director, Prof. Emeka Ezeonu, this is an anticipatory step preceding the advertisement for competitive research grants. The idea is to ensure that limited research funds are not unnecessarily dissipated but targeted to projects with immediate or future benefit to the society. As well, it is intended to guide in the search for external research funds by the Directorate. The editorial board of AJELLS: Awka Journal of English and Literary Studies, published by the Department of English Language and Literature, Faculty of Arts, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Nigeria, announces intention to publish the 6th volume of its journal (AJELLS). Sequel to this, the board hereby calls for original and scholarly researched articles in, mainly, English and Literary Studies. Articles should be typed double spaced in 12 point of Microsoft word (time new roman). It is important to note that the volume of the article should not exceed 15 pages of A4 sized papers.
