Davis Conference Center and The Research Triangle Foundation of North Carolina. The Foundation is the owner and developer of the Research Triangle Park. It was established at the Park's launch in 1959, and is responsible for maintaining the physical aspects of the Park; attracting and retaining Park companies; and enhancing the competitive position of the Park and the Triangle region. (2) The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences is a private, notfor-profit research organization created by chemical industry leaders in 1974. The Hamner Institutes is a leader in developing a better scientific understanding of how environmental chemicals can have an impact on human health. Its purpose is to advance industry and public interest in the acquisition, evaluation, and dissemination of information on the potential impact of exposure to chemicals and other substances on human health. (3) AATCC The American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists is the world’s largest technical and scientific society devoted to the advancement of textile chemistry, design and materials. The Association has 3,000-plus individual and more than 220 corporate members in the US and in 60 countries. Since its inception in 1921, the Association has been dedicated to being recognized as the global agent for education, technology transfer and test methods development. (4) First Flight Venture Center The First Flight Venture Center (FFVC) is a technology incubator located in the heart of Research Triangle Park. The incubator was established in 1991 specifically to serve the initial needs of entrepreneurs and early stage companies in the Research Triangle area. FFVC offers 16,000 square feet of leasable office and laboratory space emerging technology companies. Currently, this incubator has 39 companies. 2 (5) IBM Corporation IBM strives to lead in the invention, development and manufacture of the industry's most advanced information technologies, including computer systems, software, storage systems and microelectronics. IBM business units with operations in RTP include IBM Global Services, Software Development, Microelectronics Division, University Recruiting and Relations, Marketing and Services. (6) RTI International RTI International, the nation's second largest independent non-profit research organization, is dedicated to conducting research and development that improves the human condition by turning knowledge into practice. RTI has more than 2,500 staff members who work in RTP, eight regional offices in the U.S. and five international offices. These dedicated professionals offer innovative research and technical services to governments and businesses worldwide in the areas of health and pharmaceuticals, education and training, surveys and statistics, advanced technology, governance, economic and social development, energy, and the environment. (7) Former GlaxoSmithKline Facilities Due to GlaxoSmithKline’s consolidation in RTP on its Moore Drive campus, GlaxoSmithKline has two properties available alongside Cornwallis Road: 3030 and 3029 E. (9) GlaxoSmithKline GlaxoSmithKline is a world leading research-based pharmaceutical company with a powerful combination of skills and resources that provides a platform for delivering strong growth in today's rapidly changing healthcare environment. GSK holds an estimated seven percent of the world's pharmaceutical market. The company also has leadership in anti-infectives, central nervous system, respiratory and gastro-intestinal/ metabolic. GSK's mission is to improve the quality of human life by enabling people to do more, feel better and live longer. (10) TUCASI The Triangle Universities Center for Advanced Studies, Inc. (TUCASI) serves as an auxilary campus within the Park. It is a joint effort of Duke University, North Carolina State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill that promotes intellectual activity among the three and within the region. The campus houses entities such as the Burroughs Wellcome Fund, the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, the National Humanities Center, the National Institute of Statistical Sciences, the Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute.and MCNC. (11) Stiefel Laboratories Stiefel, recently acquired by GlaxoSmithKline, is focused on the research and development of dermatological pharmaceutical products. Stiefel’s mission is to be the world’s most valued and respected dermatology-focused pharmaceutical company, improving the quality of human life by providing high quality, innovative, safe and effective 4 products for the prevention and treatment of skin diseases. (12) Troxler Electronic Laboratories, Inc. Troxler Electronic Laboratories, Inc. develops instruments and systems for measuring physical properties and characteristics of engineering materials and manufactures and distributes these devices throughout the world. Troxler conducts research in nondestructive testing for commercial and industrial application. Troxler also designs and manufactures non-destructive test and quality control instrumentation for the civil engineering industry. (13) United Therapeutics Corporation United Therapeutics Corporation is a biotechnology company focused on life-saving therapeutics. The company is active in the three therapeutic areas of cardiovascular medicine, infectious disease and oncology. The company has four therapeutic platforms - prostacyclin analogs, glycobiology, monoclonal antibodies and telemedicine. (14) Sumitomo Electric Lightwave Corporation Sumitomo Electric Lightwave Corporation is an industry leader in the manufacturing of innovative fiber optic cable; cost effective ribbon-configured solutions; fusion technology; and FutureFLEX Air-Blown Fiber Cabling Systems. Sumitomo serves customers in public communication and enterprise network markets, as well as equipment manufacturers, helping them to expand their bandwidth opportunities through tailored network solutions. Sumitomo’s capabilities are expansive, thanks to the global resources of Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. (15) Park Research Center Park Research Center is a 30-acre campus owned by the Research Triangle Foundation to accommodate small and midsized research organizations. It features 11 multi-tenant buildings that are equipped with both wet and dry lab The lab and office buildings range from 4000sf to 14,000sf. There is a total of 125,000 sq feet of space. Rental rates depend on the services offered in each building. Tenants in Park Research range from a one person company to larger companies like Monsanto. 5 (16) United States Environmental Protection Agency The RTP EPA laboratories and offices develop analytical tools and models used to assess pollutant exposure; investigate human and ecological effects of environmental pollutants; utilize engineering approaches to mitigate or limit industrial and indoor air pollution; develop guidelines for performing human health and ecological risk assessments; and manage national programs for maintaining air quality. (17) National Institutes of Environmental Health Sciences The NIEHS is one of 27 institutes and centers of the National Institutes of Health, and focuses primarily on identifying environmental causes of disease. Areas of special interest to NIEHS are cancer, birth defects, asthma, diabetes, infertility, neurodegenerative and developmental disorders and autoimmune disease. (18) Credit Suisse Credit Suisse Group is a leading global financial services company headquartered in Zurich. It consists of 3 global lines of business: Credit Suisse, Credit Suisse First Boston and Winterthur. Credit Suisse provides private clients, small and medium-sized companies with private banking, financial advisory services and banking products. Credit Suisse’s businesses include securities underwriting, sales and trading, investment banking, private equity, alternative assets, financial advisory services, investment research and asset management. Credit Suisse’s Global Business Center, located in RTP, provides vital business continuity, information technology and operations services to their firm and CSFB clients. (19) NetApp NetApp creates innovative storage and data management solutions that help customers accelerate business breakthroughs and achieve outstanding cost efficiency. Dedication to principles of simplicity, innovation and customer success has made NetApp one of the fastest-growing storage and data management providers today. 6 (20) Cisco Cisco Systems dominates the market for equipment used to link networks and power the Internet. Among the company's products are routers and switches; Cisco's switch line includes equipment based on Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, Token Ring, and ATM technologies. Other products include remote access servers; IP telephony equipment used to transmit data and voice communications over the same network, optical networking components and network service and security systems. (21) Alexandria Innovation Center Alexandria Innovation Center is owned and managed by Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc., the largest owner and preeminent real estate investment trust focused principally on cluster formation through the ownership, operation, management, selective redevelopment, development and acquisition of properties containing office/laboratory space. The Alexandria Innovation Center is a life sciences focused incubator that is home to more than 10 small high-technology companies. (22) Biogen Idec Biogen Idec is a global biotechnology leader with primary products and capabilities in oncology, neurology, and immunology. It is committed to transforming scientific discovery, research, development, and biomanufacturing into a global commercial infrastructure. Biogen Idec’s large scale manufacturing plant in RTP is one of the world’s largest cell culture facilities. (23) Davis Park Residential Development While not technically in the RTP, the residential development sits on land abutting the Eastern edge of the Park. At buildout, Davis Park will be a mixed use, Residential/Commercial development surrounding a proposed commuter rail station. The groundbreaking on the first phase of residential development began in September 2005. The entire development is 150 acres and will have over 1,800 dwelling units as well as retail and office space. 7 (24) Network Development Center Nortel Networks is a global Internet and communications leader with capabilities spanning optical, wireless, local, personal internet and eBusiness. Nortel Networks delivers communications capabilities that enhance the human experience, power global commerce, and secure and protect the world's most critical information. Nortel serves both service providers and enterprise customers. (25) BASF The BASF RTP site is home to the BASF Agricultural Products Center (APC). APC is the headquarters for the BASF Agricultural Products NAFTA Division, BASF Plant Science, LLC, BASF Global Insecticide Research, and BASF Global Agricultural R&D. BASF Agricultural Products markets a range of innovative crop protection materials and systems that enable growers to increase their cost efficiency and their crop yield potential. It also supplies a variety of innovative weed & pest control products used to solve problems in turf, ornamental, forestry and public health markets. (26) Park Center Park Center is a service district within The Research Triangle Park. It is home to the only hotel in the Park as well as retail and multi-tenant office buildings.Park Center encompasses 100 acres of land and was originally intended to provide the support services for the Park population. Properties in Park Center were developed through a land lease with a private developer. 8
