Dear DCP Alumni and Friends,
When it comes to providing a high quality education for our students, DCP does not do it alone. As
alumni and friends of the College, you are a critical component of our community, helping develop DCP
students into fully functioning and well-prepared individuals who will reach across the nation and the globe
to impact the lives of many.
The passion we devote to our teaching and research endeavors changes lives and communities, and
it is made possible by your support. Looking through the pages of this awards booklet, you will see the
names and faces of the students whose lives were in some way affected by your vested interest in their
academic development.
However, the awards and scholarships our College confers are more than just recognition of academic
achievement. Many of these scholarships and funded competitions encourage community service, active
professional engagement, personal development and the pursuit of unique academic endeavors.
As you look through this booklet, you may find additional opportunities for further enhancing the College’s programs through giving. As a leader in
design, construction and planning education, DCP has the opportunity to remain at the forefront of education in our disciplines through your continued
support, which helps attract the best faculty and students.
Establishing endowments creates a legacy and allows you to have a lasting influence on the College’s character, while providing the College with
the resources it needs to stay at the cutting edge. I promise that the reward to you will be as great as it is to the students and faculty your gifts support.
Again, on behalf of the College, I thank you for giving your time and money to provide these invaluable scholarships and awards.
Sincerely,
Anthony J. Dasta

he recently created Rinker Scholar Endowment will for the
first time be awarded to Capt. Patrick C. Suermann for the
upcoming academic year. Patrick received his bachelor’s degree
from the U.S. Air Force Academy and his master of science
degree in construction management from Texas A&M. He
teaches construction courses at the U.S. Air Force Academy in
Colorado Springs, Col. Patrick will start his doctoral program at
the Rinker School starting the Fall 2006 semester.
Established in 2006 by a generous gift from the Marshall E.
Rinker, Sr. Foundation, Inc., this $1 million endowment supports
fellowship awards to Associated Schools of Construction faculty
members pursuing a Ph.D. in construction management at
UF. Establishing this endowment is, in part, a response to
the growing need for Ph.D. level faculty members actively
conducting research at top-level schools like the Rinker School
of Building Construction. UF is uniquely positioned to support this
type of opportunity for doctoral fellowships in the construction
management field because it is one of only four in the nation with
a doctoral program focused on the management field. Continued
support for the Rinker School through generous gifts like this
keeps opportunities available to the most qualified recipients with
the greatest potential to maintain the Rinker School’s position
among the nation’s premier building construction management
institutions. This gift is eligible for matching funds from the State
Capt. Patrick Suermann, of Florida Major Gift Trust Fund.
