I hope that everyone had the chance to spend a

Week 10, Term 1

The staff is currently involved in professional learning to develop the
students as more effective writers and spellers. Mrs Klironomakis is
an instructional leader who works with classes and teachers to model
effective writing practices and improve our students’ writing abilities
and enjoyment. Mr Clayton will use the instructional leader model to
embed the How 2 Learn philosophy into all teachers practice next
term. This is certainly a very exciting time for all of our students and
staff as we have such highly skilled teachers who can teach and learn
from each other. This collaborative approach to teacher professional
learning and development builds on the lesson studies teachers have
been using for 3 years now to improve their practice and learn from
each other. At Jindera PS, the teaching staff is committed to being the
best that they can be by continuing to be active learners every day.
Award winners’ barbeque – Tuesday 5 April
Mr Knight is organising the first award winners’ barbeque for students
who have received a silver of gold award this term. The barbeque will
be conducted on Tuesday 5 April at lunchtime. All award winners will
have the option of sausages, burgers, salad and drinks.
Congratulations to our winners. All students also have their photo in
the office area.
Breakfast club
Breakfast club is held every Wednesday morning from 8:45am until
9:20am. There is no cost to attend and enjoy toast and cereal but to
ensure that breakfast club is sustainable we are asking for either a
gold coin donation per family or for a breakfast item that could be
used for the breakfast club, such as vegemite, butter, jam, honey,
pancake mix, for students/families that would like to receive the
“special breakfast” which usually consists of bacon, eggs or
pancakes.
Thanks to the parents/carers who currently assist with breakkie club.
If you have 1 hour to spare on a Wednesday morning, occasionally,
we would love to have some extra help. The task is not onerous and
would ensure the breakkie club is sustainable and able to be enjoyed
by the students for a lot longer. Please see Mrs Berndt if you have
time to assist on a Wednesday morning from 8:45 – 9:25am.

teachers will send home a written report at the end of Term 2.
Parents/carers or teachers may request an interview following these
reports. During Term 3, all class teachers will again invite you to
“touch base” regarding your child’s progress. These meetings are less
formal and I encourage all parent/carers to participate where possible.
If you would like to see the class teacher, the school counsellor, Mrs
Berndt or me, please call the school to make an appointment. This
saves your time and frustration when staff is not available because of
teaching or extra curricula commitments.
NAPLAN – 10, 11 and 12 May
National Assessment in Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is
conducted each year in May for students in Years 3 and 5 (7 and 9)
across Australia. It is expected that all students at Jindera Public
School will participate in the tests as these tests determine funding
levels and staffing allocations for Learning and Support. A note,
further explaining the testing, was sent home this week. Parents/
carers are encouraged to contact the school if you have any
questions or concerns. A report to parents indicating a student’s level
of achievement will be sent home in September. Please remember
that, most importantly, this is one test on one day and forms part of
the total assessment and reporting procedures the school has in
place to assess students.
The NAPLAN tests will be conducted from 10 – 12 May (inclusive)
2016.
Tuesday 10 May:
Language Conventions (Spelling,
Punctuation and Grammar) Writing
Wednesday 11 May:
Reading
Thursday 12 May:
Numeracy
Each test takes approximately 40 minutes and is conducted under
exam conditions.
University of NSW 2015 International competitions
Jindera Public School is offering the students an opportunity to
participate in the Australian Schools Competition. The tests,
organised and administered by the University of NSW, cover Maths,
English, Science, Digital Technology, Writing and Spelling. There is a
cost to participate and this must be met by the parents/carers if
students want to be involved. A note went home last week and needs
to be returned prior to the test dates (included on the information
sheet). These tests are a good opportunity for students to compete
against other students from across Australia and the globe.
Communicating with parents/carers
The staff is always trying to find better ways to improve
communication with parents/carers. The newsletter is sent home
fortnightly and is a reliable and consistent source of information, tips
and reports. Please try to retrieve it from your child’s bag and read
through it. Alternatively, the office can email it to your personal email
account. Please see the front office staff at any time to set this up.
The newsletter can also be found on the school website and our
school Facebook page has a link to the website so that it can be
found easily. The school’s Facebook page is a handy point of contact Before school arrangements

University of New South Wales International Competitions and Assessment
Jindera PS is, once again offering students the opportunity to participate in the International Competitions and
Assessments for Schools (ICAS). These tests are developed by the University of NSW. The tests offer students a chance
to test their skills against children from all over Australia and overseas. They are also a good opportunity to become
familiar with a variety of formal assessments.
The University of N.S.W charges an administration fee on each test. These are not a school cost and must be paid for by
the parent/caregiver for the student to participate. The fees are detailed on the note that went home.

Our Trip to Stewart House
At Stewart House we sent letters to our family
and school. We went to the beach in Curl Curl we
went on a ferry to a wave pool. We did cooking
with Toohey the chef and then to the zoo and the
Opera House. Our supervisors names where
Simer and Mogen and another called Rob. We also went to the Easter
show. We met a lot of new friends called Corey, Lochlan, Stewart and Brendan we had a lot of fun. We
stayed in a big cabin and slept in bunk beds. At dinner we went in groups and shared lunch with a lot of
other schools. We went to school every day for 5 hours a day. We travelled by bus and I was put into a
class that I didn’t know anybody then I was moved to be with one of my friends and we had a lot of
fun.

SPORTING ACHIEVEMENTS
Two of our students have been competing at a National level in Athletics and Dirt track riding. Archie
McDonald rode at the Australian National Dirt Track Speedway Titles in Brisbane. He came first in the
Grand slam at Temora and then 9th in the Australian Titles. He was riding in the Under 13 section at
the age of 9, so this is an outstanding effort. Jasper Quinn competed at the State Little Athletics
Carnival which was held in Melbourne. He entered in the 100m and came 18th. He also entered in the
200m and came 17th, great effort Jasper as it can be very daunting running at the Melbourne Athletics
Complex.
