GAME PREVIEW
BEARS VS. BULLS
BAYLOR’S RETURN TO PROMINENCE UNDER BRILES
It’s no secret that Art Briles has completely rebuilt Baylor’s football program back to its former
winning ways, but most impressive is how speedy and pronounced the transformation has been.
Briles needs just 1 win to tie for 5th on the BU career wins list and five victories to move into the
fourth spot. The chart below shows the marked change in Baylor’s football success in five-plus years
under Briles compared to the previous 12 seasons since the start of the Big 12.

PETTY EFFICIENT IN FIRST CAREER
START
Bryce Petty (Midlothian, Texas) made the transition to starter very effectively vs. Wofford. He
threw for 312 yards and two touchdowns on 19of-24 passing. The multi-tooled Petty served as
the backup to Robert Griffin III and Nick Florence the past two seasons. The junior had thrown
just 14 passes in 11 career games played entering
2013, but has been through three seasons and
four spring drills in the Baylor program since signing in 2009 and enrolling in January 2010. BU
was one of just seven FBS programs that entered
2013 with no QB on its roster who has started a
game. Petty was tabbed as a preseason All-Big 12
first-team performer by Phil Steele.
W
hen Waco native Ahmad Dixon was choosing a college four years ago, he could
have gone to almost any big-name football school you can think of: Alabama,
Florida, LSU, Oklahoma, Texas — the list goes on.
He chose to stay home. He chose Baylor.
“And if I had it to do all over again, I’d do the same thing,” says the senior safety.
“[When I was being recruited,] Coach Briles and his staff were genuine, honest, humble, family-oriented guys. Everybody was of one accord, everybody was shooting to
turn this program around, and everybody had faith in it. So I decided to stay home
and be a part of it.”

D
uring most of a 10-year NFL career that included two Super Bowl appearances with the
Green Bay Packers, Santana Dotson remembers walking into the locker room “with my
hat tucked down” after another Baylor loss.
“For a few years, it was rough out there,” he said.
But after watching the Bears make three consecutive bowl appearances under head coach Art
Briles, the former Baylor All-American “can walk into the room with my chest pumped out.”
