From the Krasl Art Center
Welcome to the 52nd annual Krasl Art Fair on the Bluff!
Each summer the Krasl Art Center welcomes more than
70,000 guests to the Art Fair. Whether you’re joining us
from across the street, from a neighboring state or from
across the country, we are pleased to welcome you to
the Southwest Michigan art and cultural community.
The Krasl Art Fair on the Bluff is one of the largest festivals
in the region and showcases some of the finest artists from
across the country. Each artist was selected by a panel of
independent jurors, and this year we are pleased to bring
125 new artists with exciting new artwork, in addition to
welcoming back 91 artists from last year.
Mission
Bringing People & Art Together
Vision
To Improve the Quality of Life through Art
OUR Goal
To provide communication and aesthetic appreciation
of the visual fine arts through the use of education
As you enjoy the 216 booths this weekend, you will
experience a wide range of mediums and artwork that is not
only creative and inventive, but also unique and incredibly
distinctive. Whatever amount you spend, the purchases
you make this weekend will support an artist who is living
and breathing creativity into daily life.
Your purchase will also support the Art Fair and the Krasl
Art Center for years to come. We are constantly looking
for new ways to bring people and art together. With your
help, we’ll continue to present original works of art in our
indoor galleries, collect and preserve monumental sculptural
objects, and provide art making opportunities for people
of all ages.
The Art Fair couldn’t be possible without the City of
St. Joseph, dozens of local businesses and the incredible
support of our sponsors. This is a year-round effort by
dedicated staff and enthusiastic volunteers. It is only
through their work that our local event is ranked #20
out of the top 100 art fairs in the nation by Sunshine
Artist magazine.
Thank you for supporting the Art Fair, the arts, artists and
the Krasl Art Center for over 50 years. Enjoy the weekend
and everything art has to offer!
Exhibition and Education
at the Krasl Art Center
The Krasl Art Center collects contemporary sculpture.
Many artworks are located outdoors on the Art Center
grounds, along local waterfronts and in communities
spanning from New Buffalo to South Haven. Sculptures
are on view 24 hours every day, 365 days each year.
Artists in the collection include Dale Chihuly, Richard
Hunt and George Rickey.
The Krasl Art Center features exceptional fine art
exhibitions throughout the year in its indoor galleries.
Exhibitions range from historical to contemporary
artists and include a variety of media, such as painting,
photography, sculpture, prints and drawings.
Sara Shambarger
Director of Art Fairs
Julia Gourley
Krasl Art Center Executive Director
The artlab gallery is dedicated to art that is off the
wall, off the pedestal and into the space. Emerging
artists present experimental new projects in the lab.
The Krasl Art Center provides creative art experiences
for people of all ages. Offerings include studio classes,
summer art camps and Thoughtful Thursday programs.
The Krasl Clay Artists’ Guild is a membership that
builds community among ceramic artists and potters.
Applications for the guild are accepted June 1–30.
Visit krasl.org to learn more about upcoming exhibitions
and education opportunities.

The Krasl Art

to provide
high quality
art to the

a nurturing

to artists.
Buying original art
not only beautifies
your living or work
space, but it’s
also inspiring and
connects us to the
artist and how the
piece makes us
feel. Unlike massproduced items,
original art is unique
and makes a great
gift. When you
purchase a piece of
art from the Art Fair,
you are taking home
something that is
truly memorable.

What should you buy?
Whether or not art is good completely depends on how it
makes you feel! If it stirs something inside of you, if it speaks
to you, then it’s probably something you would enjoy living
with. Artwork that draws you in has the potential to be
something truly great.
The more art you experience, the more you’ll know what
kind of art you like. There’s no better place than an
Art Fair to explore and discover new mediums. The original
art at this Art Fair includes a variety of styles, mediums and
techniques. The artists featured this weekend have been
selected because of the quality of their work.

the artists,

and the
volunteers.
Budgeting is always important when deciding to make a
purchase. Luckily, no matter what you want to spend, there’s
something for everyone at this year’s Art Fair. Artists have a
wide range of prices within their body of work.
Limited editions and smaller sizes make a great affordable
option for those starting their art collections. If there is a
more expensive piece you just can’t live without, ask about a
payment plan; some artists are more than happy to discuss
payment options.

We cannot thank the creative team at ARS enough for
the professionalism and enthusiasm they put into creating
this year’s promotional materials, in addition to the Art Fair
Guide Book. They’ve demonstrated an incredible ability to
continually go above and beyond what’s expected of them,
and we truly appreciate everything they do! Thanks to
ARS, a Premier Sponsor of the Krasl Art Fair on the Bluff!
10 | KRASL ART FAIR on the Bluff
Our heartfelt thanks to Batson Printing Incorporated for their
sponsorship and printing of this Art Fair Guide Book and all
the Krasl Art Fair on the Bluff marketing materials. We also
want to recognize Marguerite Batson, whose husband Henry
Batson was the founder of Batson Printing, as one of the first
Art Fair artists. She was a painter and exhibited in booth #083
for many years. It is in her honor that Batson Printing is a
proud Premier Sponsor of the Krasl Art Fair on the Bluff.
