PRESCHOOL GRADUATIONS / PROGRAMS 2 EIGHTH GRADE GRADUATION YESHIVA HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION YAVNE HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION 3 EARLY CHILDHOOD DIVISION The Academy’s award-winning Early Childhood Division is overflowing! Several new classes will be added this Fall, and rooms are being renovated to accommodate the everincreasing enrollment. A visit by State Senator Sandra Williams showcased the exuberance and vitality of this division. The Senator was impressed by the passion of the teachers and the enthusiasm of the children. From learning the parsha to imbibing a love for Israel and social skills, the children are thriving under the dedicated care of their teachers and aides. 4 GIRLS ELEMENTARY DIVISION In this Shmittah Year, students learned about the special qualities of Israel and the mesiras nefesh of farmers willing to keep the mitzvah of Shmittah. Students collected funds to help farmers. Mitzvos are taught in such a loving manner that one young group even set up a neighborhood hot cocoa stand to raise money for maos chitim. Hands on activities helped third graders learn about the solar system; trips to Century Village and Lake FarmPark taught fourth graders about colonial life and local produce sustainability; a trip to the Western Reserve Historical Society showed fifth graders how to use primary documents in research projects. 5 BIGS AND LITTLES MENTORING PROGRAM “Bigs and Littles,” a proactive program that pairs younger girls with positive mentors, is a source of delight and gratification to all who participate. The smiles on the faces of both the “Bigs” and “Littles” attest to the wonderful relationships that are formed through weekly outings, joint events and a year-end finale with crafts, food, and friendship. CRYSTAL APPLE AWARD PRESIDENT’S DAY PROGRAMS Mrs. Bonnie Spiegle with the Northeast Ohio Media Group presented this year’s Crystal Apple Award to Mrs. Jan Braverman, an enrichment teacher and elementary school facilitator of Columbia University’s Writers Workshop. Beatrice Stone Yavne High School senior Tova Mahalli nominated Mrs. Braverman for this award because of Mrs. Braverman’s encouragement and teaching that enabled her to achieve success in school. Under the talented Mr. Yudi Silber, our elementary school divisions gave thanks to the generosity of the United States of America that allows us to live as observant Jews and that provides continuous support to Israel. Girls grades 1-3 held one assembly, and a separate assembly was held for grades 1-3 boys. It is never too early to inculcate hakaras hatov, gratitude into the hearts and minds of our students. 6 YESHIVA KETANA DIVISION So many mishnayos learned, milestones reached, siyumim celebrated! The talmidim have gone from chayil l’chayil, strength onwards. Project BEAM has once again fostered a love of Torah and maasim tovim. The Cocoa Club has become a staple and a vital part of starting the morning right. The sound of enthusiastic students and dedicated Rebbeim fills the corridors. The highlight of the sixth grade is the annual Gedolim Fair. This year, sixth grade students studied boat building techniques such as buoyancy and displacement of water. With partners, they built actual boats that floated in the high school pool.Other classes took part in Writers Workshop and published essays on wideranging research topics. KOLLEL ATERES NOCHUM ZEV Kollel Ateres Nochum Zev, the Academy’s innovative school-based kollel , had another productive year. In addition to serving as role models and mentors who developed relationships with Junior High and High School students, the members of the Kollel served as chavrusos to the boys and routinely opened their homes for Friday night Oneg Shabbos and Shabbos meals. Summer Shabbos seder and Motzei Shabbos programs were well-attended and voluntary shiurim were presented to seventh graders and eighth graders throughout the week. Meaningful relationships have been forged between members of the Kollel and high school talmidim. This keenness for learning has been boosted further by many in-school Shabbatonim, melave malkahs, and guest lectures by renowned Torah personalities. An end-of-the-year trip to the Lake Erie Locks and Toronto included visits with Toronto Rabbonim and concluded with a stop at the magnificent Niagara Falls. The talmidim continue to do chesed by visiting nursing homes and helping out at a Federation cemetery clean-up project. The talmidim prepared a gala Lag B’omer bonfire which was greatly enjoyed by many community participants. Dovid Judkovich, a senior in Yeshiva High School, has received the National Merit Rockwell Automation Scholarship from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Dovid is one of about 1,000 distinguished high school seniors around the country that received this award. Dani Mosenkis and Menachem Goldfarb, fellow seniors, were commended with scores in the top 14% of the nation. 11 YAVNE HIGH SCHOOL Our talmidos have immersed themselves in learning and maasim tovim. The Irving I. Stone M’Yad L’Yad Tzeddakah Committee hosted a Teacher Auction that raised $1,500 for Keren Hashviis, an organization supporting farmers who keep Shmittah. Yavne students represented the Academy at the Jewish Federation of Cleveland, and their Torah commentaries were featured in the Cleveland Jewish News. Students had leadership roles in Matan BSayser, the Cleveland Kosher Food Bank, and other worthy causes. This year’s community production featured songs and dance written and performed by all the students in the high school. Yavne’s Art Festival featured works of art created by all grade levels. The Lag B’Omer trip to Niagara Falls cemented the many wonderful friendships across grade levels and highlighted the tremendous achdus, unity that characterizes this division. 12 PTA The Academy continues to benefit from a creative and devoted PTA headed by Mrs. Ruti Wolf and Mrs. Malky Traube. A new and ingenious project was a school wide Health Fair that focused on the importance of exercise, proper nutrition, and a balanced approach to life. One project that has become an annual highlight is the Chinese Auction that was adeptly chaired by Mrs. Karen Fireman and Mrs. Frumi Pollak. Another annual event, anticipated by all, is the PTA’s Fun Run and Carnival. Coordinators Mrs. Sara Farkas and Mrs. Hillary Gecovich and their committees put together a heartwarming afternoon with rocket rides, bounce slides, food, and a relay race.
