Established in 2005, J. C. Trans (UK) is a warehousing and distribution company with a fleet of 15 tractor units based
in Leicester.
The company prides itself on its dedication to delivering great customer care. Key to achieving this is a commitment
to using a modern fleet which ensures the service provided to customers meets their exacting standards.
The Michelin approach
J. C. Trans (UK) adopted a full Michelin policy for its
commercial vehicles following an in-house trial which
demonstrated a massive 88 per cent reduction in tyre
failures per quarter on vehicles fitted with Michelin
rubber. The company had previously suffered an
average of 16 tyre failures a quarter; Michelin brought
this down to just two.
Jas Singh, Director at J.C. Trans (UK), says: “We were
suffering an unacceptable level of tyre failures when
fitting another premium brand tyre. We started talking
with Michelin as we hoped they could present us with
a solution.”
Michelin’s local account manager worked closely with
J. C. Trans (UK) to put together a tyre trial framework
which saw Michelin tyres tested against the other
premium brand fitments on the fleet.
The huge increase in tyre reliability was not the only
reason that Michelin excelled when compared with the
existing policy.
Prior to fitting Michelin tyres the company risked
facing a large repair bill whenever a tyre failed as a
rapid deflation can cause damage to the truck and
trailer. It also resulted in unexpected downtime and
delays, which the company was keen to eradicate.
Results
J. C. Trans (UK) now operates a 100 per cent
Michelin policy across its fleet. It has specified X
MultiWay 3D XZEs on the steer axles of its tractor
units and X MultiWay 3D XDEs on the drive axles.
The innovative design of these tyres merges
excellent traction, longevity and fuel efficiency with
outstanding safety, comfort and cost-effectiveness.
Singh explains: “Michelin has not only reduced
the number of tyre failures in the fleet, on the
rare occasion an issue does arise we simply aren’t
suffering damage to the tractor unit and trailer.
Fitting Michelin tyres is providing a considerable
cost saving for us.”
The company has been so impressed with the
service it has received from Michelin it has begun
trialling the new 65-series X Multi T trailer tyres too.
The X Multi T improves on the strength already
achieved by Michelin with the introduction of
a new rubber compound named ‘Carbion’. This
development, alongside improvements in rolling
resistance, provides increased resistance to abrasion
when compared to the previous generation XTE3.
All new Michelin tyres are being managed through
a multi-life policy, being regrooved, retreaded and
regrooved again, to ensure the maximum mileage
potential is extracted from each individual asset.
Nominated service provider ATS Euromaster takes
responsibility for regrooving worn tyres when the
tread reaches 3-4mm. Once the regrooved tyre has
worn, it can be returned to Michelin for retreading
at its Stoke-on-Trent based Remix plant.
Singh concludes: “We enjoy an excellent service
from ATS Euromaster - they add real value to
our business.”
