We are nearing the end of 2015 and the midpoint of our season. We have already produced very good and highly successful productions of Mothers and Sons, The Addams Family, Ramona Quimby, and The Mercy Seat. Coming up soon will be hilarious productions of Nunsense and The Foreigner as well as the ALT Academy’s much anticipated production of Godspell. You will also note our two special Holiday events. We are pleased to present The Flying J Wranglers for their 8th annual appearance at ALT. Their performance will be Tuesday, December 15 at the ALT Mainstage. For those who like a little more “bite” with their holiday fare, we are extremely pleased to be presenting Jeff Jarnagin, reprising his role as the grumpy elf, Crumpet, in The Santaland Diaries. This great event will run December 17-19 at the ALT Adventure Space. There has been a lot of talk about “warriors” this season. I appreciate all of our ALT warriors so much. I recently looked through an ALT program that commemorated the opening of ALT’s Mainstage building in 1955. It is very interesting to remember that since its birth in 1927 ALT has weathered a great depression, drought and a World War. In a tribute written about Oma Link Rowley and Eloise Gibson, it was noted that they painted scenery for the opera and local school productions to raise money to keep ALT alive. There is even an account of these two ladies going out and personally selling tickets to an upcoming show so that they could buy paint to finish a set. Talk about Warriors! We are so blessed to be in an organization with such a rich history that has been made thanks to so many “warriors” through the years. We owe much to our predecessors. We enjoy the shade of trees planted long ago......... We have many fantastic shows yet to produce this season. I hope you will plan to support each of them with your attendance. I look forward to seeing you at the theatre(s). Allen Shankles Managing/Artistic Director Holiday Special Events ALT is pleased to announce that we will be hosting two great special events for the holiday season. The Santaland Diaries starring Jeff Jarnagin will be presented for three shows only at the ALT Adventure Space December 17-19 @ 8:00 pm. The show will also feature special guests Devlon Jones and Chana Smith. This hilarious one-man show written by David Sedaris is a popular holiday event at ALT. The Flying J Wranglers from Ruidoso, New Mexico will be appearing on the ALT stage for its 8th year in a row. That performance is scheduled for Tuesday, December 15 at 7:30 pm. Whether your prefer traditional Holiday fare or something a little more “off the wall,” one of these shows is sure to be just the ticket for you. Both shows have experienced packed houses in previous years and we expect this year to be the same. Make your reservations as soon as possible. Reservations for both shows will begin for ALT season ticket holders on Monday, November 30 at 10:00 am. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Monday, December 7 at 10:00 am. Academy Spotlight The Fall semester is about to wrap up and 2016 is just around the corner. The Holidays are approaching and November is always such a fun time to give thanks for family and friends. Speaking of thanks, I want to thank as well as congratulate the cast and crew of Ramona Quimby! This show was a joy to direct and audiences loved it! This play, based on the beloved book series, was a hit with our school and public performances. Each night, the cast captivated the audience in telling the story of the energetic and sometimes mischievous Ramona Quimby. We loved our time spent on 'Klickitat Street' and hope that you enjoyed it as well. Of course, the Academy is extremely lucky to have had so much support in producing this play. I want to thank Krystal Burns who served as Assistant Director, Macey Gibaszek and Megan Nair who helped as Production Assistants, Academy parent Amanda Fike who helped backstage, Tana Roberson for her wonderful set design, the staff of ALT and ALT Board of Directors for their continued support, and to all the wonderful parents and family volunteers! I also want to thank Chick-Fil-A on Georgia Street and Joe Tacos for providing lunch during our school performances. The Academy is certainly blessed to have such an amazing group of individuals and businesses helping provide even more magic of live theatre to these students. As we wrap up one show, we quickly set our sights on the next. The Academy will be “learning our lessons well” as we produce the ever popular musical Godspell. This show will be staged at the ALT Adventure Space and is going to be a real treat for audiences of all ages. Be sure to mark your calendars as we are certainly excited to produce this musical January 8th – 17th. Lastly, I want to remind everyone that Spring Registration begins on December 14th and Academy classes begin January 11th. Be sure to check out our full class schedule online starting November 30th and maybe add an ALT Academy class to your Christmas wish list! What better gift could Santa possibly bring than great training from a great Academy! Happy Holidays! Jason Crespin Academy Director Notes from the Guild Greetings from the Guild! We’ve had a great Guild season so far, starting with a big 2nd ACT Sale and a TERRIFIC Membership Party with a FUN-tastic Addams Family theme. We had over 50 in attendance and grew 23 new Guild Members this year. That spells SUCCESS!! A shout out to Debbie Perry for arranging the delicious fajita dinner, to the Executive Committee for desserts and drinks and to all those who helped decorate! Our Christmas Party/Meeting will be December 8th at the home of Susan and Tom Johnson at 6812 Baccus. We will gather at 6:30. Instead of a gift exchange, we will take donations for the Academy. Bring a food item to share and we will make merry; then have a brief meeting. We sold personalized Academy decals and provided a work call lunch and production week snacks for Ramona Quimby. Congratulations to our new Academy Liaisons April Felker and Krystal Burns – they have already started working with Mr. Jason on ways to help throughout the season. Our fall fundraiser is under way! Thanks to a donation from Sparkman Orthodontics, the proceeds from the sale of the Opportunity to Win tickets for the $700.00 Southwest Airlines Visa is pure profit. The box office has tickets ready for pick up so selling is easy. When your tickets are gone, drop off the money and pick up a new envelope! Thanks to everyone for volunteering! Our work behind the scenes makes everything run more smoothly. We are all busy and being an ALT Warrior is a commitment that is always appreciated and never unnoticed. You are important to the cause. #ALTWARRIOR Laura Jo Worsham, Guild President 676-9056. [email protected] S!
