Holder Office: 502.241.7111 It was a blessing having lunch with with the ministers of the Bluegrass Section People Want More Giving Options In today’s world fewer people are paying with check or cash. This is true whether they are paying in person at the point of purchase, or paying their monthly bills from home, or ordering appliances, gifts or groceries. Today’s consumers want to pay with their credit card; or online from their PC, MAC, or tablet; if not from their cell phone. This trend is growing in popularity among church-goers as well. Many church members want options for how to contribute to the church. Here are a few giving apps that help churches offer more ways for their members to donate; Tithe.ly, Pushpay, and EasyTithe; which offers text-to-tithe options. Churches using tithing apps report that they receive more contributions, more frequently, from more people. You may choose to still pass the plate; but you may be wise to add online giving to your stewardship program. Ida and I were privileged to spend some time with Pastor Karen and Tommy Wix & Missy. During the weekend I met with their church board and preached on Sunday morning. They have a great church in Madisonville. . Vannucci With Annette June 2016 Secretary/Treasurer Email: [email protected] . I enjoyed the opportunity to minister at First Assembly of God in Martin. On May 29th Ray Davis was elected as their new pastor. Ray & Holly Davis 3 The Kentucky Challenge —A monthly publication of the Kentucky Ministry Network of the Assemblies of God As I write these words we’ve recently completed District Council 2016. From my perspec>ve, there were a few observa>ons made at Council that were encouraging and a few that need our collec>ve aDen>on. First of all, congratula>ons to Pastor Joe Girdler on being re-‐elected as our District Superintendent. Your excellent leadership and vision for the Assemblies of God in Kentucky resonates with our ministers as is evidenced on being elected to your fourth term on the nomina>ng ballot! I was also grateful for the resolve our leadership gave voice to in support of Camp Crestwood. The posi>ve impact those acres of land just outside of Louisville have had on our Assembly of God families is not even debatable. I’m grateful our commitment to Camp Crestwood will reap many more life changing tes>monies for years to come. Finally, it was exci>ng to witness dynamic worship and hear God’s Word and personal stories of the Lord’s power and favor. His Spirit came to us during Council as we worshiped with passion with both songs of history and this current genera>on. But there were a few things at Council this year that concern me. As a gray haired man myself I feel fortunate to have a seat at the table of our movement. But we have far too many aging ministers in comparison to the numbers of younger pastors coming up through the ranks. I appreciate Pastor Joe’s leadership in encouraging more contemporary worship with ligh>ng and structure that our young pastors hunger for. This year’s Council reflected that. A renewed focus in my own life is to invest in the younger ministers I have connec>on with. I’m hopeful that in our immediate future the statewide sta>s>cs will trend toward a younger crowd aDending District Council. But the challenge goes much deeper than that. We need God to give us a resurgence of younger ministers in Kentucky that will be ac>vely engaged and prepare for the decades that are just around the corner. Will you please join me in prayer about this? My final observa>on is both a mixture of concern and opportunity. We have many of our churches that financially support the 2% funding for church plan>ng and improvements to Camp Crestwood. Few things impact an expanding church movement like star>ng new congrega>ons and inves>ng in our kids! I’m very grateful for what is invested each month in 2% giving. But at the same >me, our collec>ve par>cipa>on could provide many more benefits short-‐term and long-‐term. As a pastor myself, I know the financial demands in my local church. Each month I have to reaffirm my support of these district projects and make them a priority. I’m hopeful soon we will have several of our churches re-‐evaluate the opportunity before us regarding these two endeavors. Blessings to you and I trust God to give you a summer of favor and rest!
