The men and women who organize, work at the event, sponsor a hole, donate items for the raffles, along with the golfers bring much joy to all of us who attend from Crossroads as well as our residents and their families who receive care because of them. Thank you again one and all who made this year another very successful one. Alex’s Golf Tournament The Annual Chef Russ Memorial Golf Tournament sponsored by Alex’s to honor one of their own who left this world so young was another success for all involved. The dedicated individuals who organize and run this tournament graciously give proceeds to Crossroads House. It is always a day filled with wonderful fun, great prizes and many generous individuals. Thank you again for having this on the last Sunday in August for us. Supper at Settler’s Many folks settled in for a nice supper at Settler’s on September 15, 2015 for the benefit of Crossroads House. This was our first time for us having a dining fundraiser there and surely won’t be the last. Thank you so much to everyone who worked to get this set up and took time out to support a local business and support Crossroads House at the same time. See you there again soon! Kiwanis Car Classic We were invited to join the Corfu/Pembroke/Darien Kiwanis at their annual Classic Car show on September 20, 2015 at the Pembroke Town Park. We were very happy to coordinate and run a basket raffle for that afternoon. What a gorgeous day we had in September. The day went so well with our beautiful baskets. It was wonderful to see many of our friends from the western portion of Genesee County and meet wonderful new friends. We look forward to participating again at their show on Sunday, September 18. Plan on stopping by, say hello and put in your chances to win our amazing baskets!! 3rd Annual Spaghetti Western Our 3rd Spaghetti Western was a wonderfully, wild whirlwind of an evening. The dinner was delicious and nutritious. Our ice cream sandwiches donated by Perry’s Ice Cream of Akron, NY were a perfect finish to the meal. The camaraderie contained warmth, wit, and wagons of love! Bill Pitcher and the Ghostriders again supplied music throughout the whole shindig. We even had a special guest Peg who celebrated her 90 th birthday with us. It was another example of how the Crossroads House family celebrates milestones of life. The folks at First Presbyterian were a wonderful help in all areas from set up, to prep, to dishes, desserts and serving. We especially appreciated the boy scout troop they work with for coming in at events end and assisting with cleanup. The generosity of the community coming in to dine is so appreciated. We look forward to seeing you all again in October for the 4 th Annual Spaghetti Western. Get your country gear lined up!! 2nd Annual Fall Basket Raffle St. James Church was again our location for our fall basket raffle. We are grateful for the relationship and side by side work we have with the wonderful folks there. This year’s event was a huge success. The baskets and gift certificates we received from our volunteers and their friends and families were over 170! The food was great, coffee compliments of McCullough Coffee of Buffalo with our own local supplier Ralph Marsocci generously giving of his time too. We are so grateful to each and every individual who donated, helped with baskets, set up, food preparation, serving, cleanup, disseminating baskets and giving of your time and money to attend. You made it our most successful one yet. The only sad part is that we will be looking for a new venue for our fall raffle as we have outgrown the space at St. James. Spring 2016 WWW.CROSSROADSHOUSE.COM Page 3 Annual Memorial Service Each year in the fall we invite family and friends of residents we have served in the past couple of years to join us in a remembrance and celebration of their loved one’s life. This evening of remembrance of those who finished their earthly journeys with us at Crossroads House is one we enjoy very much. It provides us an opportunity to keep our relationships with family and friends long after the care of their loved one has ended. It brings us great joy to share our wonderful memories, see the healing process unfolding in our friends as time continues on. Each year as we light the candles, hear the music and inspirational messages read it’s a blessing for us at Crossroads to continue on with the beautiful work that is carried out here. This day of remembering is a beautiful reminder of the cooperation, dedication and sacrifices of so many from our community that come together for the benefit of others. Annual Heart Sucker Sale As the weather generally is cold, snowy and the winds are blowing we at Crossroads House hope to warm you up with a delicious Oliver’s chocolate heart sucker. This annual sale is a wonderful way for us to kick off the year of fundraising. Our chairperson, Joni, does a great job in sorting, bagging, and tracking each one of the 7,500 we sell. We are so grateful for each bank, store, restaurant, hair salon and many other locations that have these suckers out for sale to help out Crossroads House. Having this nice display provides another opportunity for you to promote our message as well as awareness of the need for our community support. Thank you to everyone who again made this a successful venture. 20th Annual Betty Ellison Memorial Bowling Tournament Betty Ellison was a woman who supported her community. She loved the mission of Crossroads House. It gives us great pleasure to continually remember her love and dedication with this Annual February event. In honor of our 20th year we added an extra Friday night kickoff shift along with the band M.A.C. playing afterwards at TF Brown’s. It was a great night for those who were willing to forge out on one of the few snowy nights in February. The full weekend of bowling one week later was warm, sunny and almost 50 on Sunday. Only in WNY can you fluctuate 50+ degrees in a matter of days. The Friday night was again completed with a stellar performance at TF Brown’s by the band “Savage Cabbage”. The guys played for a couple of hours nonstop to a crowd who enjoyed it all. The bowlers, basket donors, lane sponsors, volunteers, bands and “groupies” made this event one that was successful, full of fun and laughs as well as a wonderful way for many friends to enjoy time together and continue helping Crossroads House. Thank you everyone involved and a big kudos to Cindy and Tara for their great job co-chairing!! You girls bowled a strike for sure! th Musical Memories The 7 Annual Musical Memories Concert was held on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at the City Church in Batavia. It was a wonderful night of music, memories and friends getting together. The musicians that perform during these few hours on a beautiful fall night are top notch. For many the highlight is seeing the local “boys” of the St. Joe’s Alumni Brass. The memories and traditions of music that they represent are very special to Batavia, just like the love, care and compassion of Crossroads House. Having the Alexander Fireman’s Band join us again this year was a nice treat. Each musician, whether a local or long distance friend, give their all and play to the delight of those in attendance. Page 4 WWW.CROSSROADSHOUSE.COM Spring 2016 The last two years we have bypassed the end of the year Christmas party due to the overabundance of activity that we are all involved in during December. We however, as a Crossroads House Administrative Staff wanted to take the time to do something special for our nurses, aides and volunteers. On a beautiful Saturday in January we ventured out to Corfu for a brunch together. Being in someone’s home, relaxing, enjoying a meal and hilarious stories from new and most seasoned volunteers made for a great few hours. These moments allow us to grow as a family, encourage one another and meet new folks we might otherwise never see. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend. When you sign up and become a volunteer in 2016, you get to join us next January! "Music opens windows to the past" After seeing the movie "Alive Inside" www.aliveinside.us Crossroads House purchased iPods for our residents so that they can have personalized music therapy. Music is a powerful tool that can enhance a person's final journey, bring back memories and build new ones. Because of your generosity and the rest of the community we are able to continue to make the last days of so many, not only comfortable, but meaningful and impactful. Building lasting memories and legacies are part of what we try to provide every family that we are honored to serve. As the cost of doing business goes up (wages, insurance, utilities, etc.) we are always concerned about “fundraising exhaustion” within the community we serve. In an effort to supplement fundraising and plan for the long term viability of comfort care free of charge right in our backyard, Crossroads House established an Endowment Fund. This fund will allow Crossroads House to continue its mission and ministry of caring for the dying long into the future. Sowing into the Endowment Fund is as easy as earmarking your donation to go to this vital fund. If giving by check, simply put “Endowment Fund” on the memo line. If giving online at www.crossroadshouse.com, there is a link “Add special instructions to the seller:” at checkout, click the link and put “Endowment Fund” in the message box. If you would like to leave a legacy gift through this newsletter, check the box “My Donation is for the Crossroads House Endowment Fund”. Having already served over 400 residents, Crossroads House is a home built on stories, memories and legacies. Help us continue to build, one precious soul at a time.
