Teaching bike repair, mechanics, and an entrepreneurial spirit, Phoenix Bikes offer local youth real-world skills and education that will better prepare them for the future. In our inaugural season the Honu donated $2,500 from our crab fest to support a great cause for great local kids. Martha’s Table helps 1,100 people a day deal with the immediate effects of poverty and finds long-term solutions with education, nutrition, and family support services. Martha’s Table addresses emergency needs with food and clothing programs and breaks the long cycle of poverty with education and family strengthening programs. More than 10,000 people volunteer each year and learn about the value of helping their neighbors. Thanks to the heroic efforts of Jennifer Peregoy, T3 Honu supported Martha’s Table every month during the 2013 season by volunteering to distribute meals to the homeless in Washington, DC. T3 Honu looks forward to continuing its support to Martha’s Table in the 2014 Season. Mahalo! Mahalo! The Honu For native Hawai’ians the sea turtle, or honu, symbolizes longevity, peace, good luck, humility, long life, and the spirit of aloha within us. T3 was founded on those principles. Legend tells about a green sea turtle, Kauila, who could change herself into a girl to watch over the children playing at Punalu'u Beach on the Big Island. When Kauila's mother dug her nest, a fresh water spring surged upward, quenching the children's thirst. Kauila is the "mythical mother" of all turtles, and perhaps of our children as well. It's also said that turtles were the guides for the first voyagers to Hawai’i. 4 Looking Toward 2014 Save the date and join our ohana for the end of season party and 2014 Kick Off Meeting: November 23rd, 2013 5:30-‐7PM 2014 promises to be an exciting year for the club. Note: You are always welcome to train with anyone else from the team regardless of ability. • Look for mini-surveys throughout the season to gather feedback. • More social events. • Focus will be on two race events during the season. Also, please complete our online survey beforehand.
