Just a short thank you to those that made the Wobble League

Jay and his bride Sandy preformed their usual magic with great
food and organization at The Gobble Wobble. I am sure there is
more coverage on the event but “Thanks to Jay and Sandy”.
Scott completed the Wobble League with his usual grilling skills
supported by sweets from Ralph, Judy and Dianne. Thanks to
all.

2013 Wobble League Results
The 2013 Wobble League concluded on Thursday, October 24. We
had 37 participants who shot 50 wobble targets each Thursday night
over the span of eight weeks.
The High Overall competition came down to a two man race. Mike
Moore held the lead for most of the season and took a comfortable
seven target advantage into the last week. Jay Spitz was chasing and
needed a near perfect score the last week to overtake Mike, but Jay
wasn’t able to make up the deficit and Mike claimed the top prize with
an overall score of 359 out of 400. Jay finished with 350 to take the
runner-up trophy, while Josh Wexelbaum and Scott Calhoun rounded
out the top three, each with a 342 tally with Josh taking the third place
trophy via the tie-breaker. The remaining 34 shooters competed for
Class awards based on their best seven scores from the eight weeks.
Class Winners were: AA: Scott Calhoun, winner; Art Dwight, runnerup. A: Tom Jorstad, winner; Denny Mills, runner-up.
B: Tom
Clark, winner; Steve Pfister, runner-up. C: Jim Chakour, winner;
Brian Grant, runner-up. D: Brett Steward, winner; Ralph Nelson,

Scott Calhoun repeats as club champion
With a tie for third-place in the fall Wobble league, Scott
Calhoun secured the Club Champion title for the second
consecutive year. He joins Mike Moore as the only other club
member to win multiple club champion titles.
Past Champions:
The club champion designation was created in 2007 to identify
the club shooter who performs the best over all four shooting
disciplines offered at Sportsman’s Park (doubles, singles,
handicap, wobble). Club members who participated in the three
trap leagues (doubles, singles, wobble) as well as the club
Handicap Championship earned points toward the title of Club
Champion. The top ten club members in each event earned
points, with the club member who accumulated the most points
over the four events declared the club champion.

are exceptions to this rule and other requirements.

Gobble Wobble recap
….reporting from the Sportsman’s Club newsroom…
Brisk temperatures coupled with a cloudless black sky, set the
backdrop for the Eleventh Annual Turkey Shoot held
November 7th at Sportsman’s Park. More than two dozen
Club members registered to shoot in this always sold-out
program…
Scott Calhoun, who was successful earlier in the evening, came
back with a vengeance to bag his second bird and limited out by
harvesting the #9 turkey of the night... well done! And, the last
Roost found Josh Wexelbaum, who had been his own toughest
competition all night (ask Josh for those details) harvesting Tom
#10.
Once again, in keeping with the event’s theme, the guide service
prepared a modest buffet for our participating “hunters” in the
“storage building” which served as our “hunters’ cabin” for the
evening.
Food was on the table was ready to eat at 5:30pm with the
hunting of Roost #1 expected an hour or so later. Members
feasted throughout the night from a steaming crock-pot
continuously refilled with “turkey chili”. Onions and cheeses
were available for those who wanted to make the chili their
own. Folks were very generous in their praise about Sandy
Spitz and her “award winning, Mrs. Spitter’s secret recipe”.
Members were also treated to dozens upon dozens of freshly
baked chocolate chip “lace” cookies. Soda and bottled water
was available for refreshment…
Members endured ever-changing conditions. Early on, skies
were clear; but temperatures deteriorated as the evening
progressed. Hunters were thankful for a roaring fire that kept
members somewhat toasty as temps approached “freezing”; with
frost formed on gear and guns – I think I saw some icicles
forming on chin whiskers! Next year, I heard the fare will add
S’mores… (I’m definitely requesting this assignment again!)
Left to Right: Scott Calhoun, Jay Spitz, Iftikhar Gurmani, Judy
Novotny, Jon Tevogt, Josh Wexelbaum, Chico Rashid
*****
Whether a loss of focus or the flinch of a trigger, it is always
humbling to be the first one knocked out of any competition…
for the one who got knocked out early and came home empty
handed, the outfitter had a consolation prize… the prize roll of
commemorative toilet paper!
Midway through the hunts, light was lost and hunters had to
endure low-level light conditions which made a few of hunts
even more challenging.
Twenty-Seven (27) Club members participated in the certainly
uncertain conditions. As previously reported, all hunts were
once again, Sold-Out within days of being offered! However,
as happens every year, unexpected events caused some members
to cancel and others just didn’t show up… but those who did
and shot well were rewarded…
The evening’s competition was tough, right from the start…
Roost #1 which saw members dig down deep into their shell
pouches, had Judy Novotny take her fellow members to task,
besting the rest in the first and then followed up with a back to
back harvest in Roost #2 – way to go Judy!
Scott Calhoun, who only earlier in the evening commented on
his recent lack of success, stayed sure-sighted to bag Tom #3.
Probationary member Jim Boyk bagged his bird in Roost #4…
Cheeku Rashid, shot well, stayed focused and was rewarded
with his turkey in Roost #5. Probably the “ugliest” harvest of
the night came in Roost#6, with the “outfitter” unable to land a
shot, but thanks to fellow hunters who cleared out most of the
remaining competition, Jay Spitz was able to finally bear down
and hit a bird when it mattered, to earn his Tom.
Roost #7 saw Iftekhar Gurmani get in his groove, stay
consistent and was rewarded with his turkey. As conditions got
downright cold, Jon Tevogt turned up the heat and held strong
to take Tom #8.
*****
So, to recap this year’s hunt results… congratulations to Judy
and Scott for limiting out and to Jim, Cheeku, Jay, Iftekhar,
Jon and Josh for each bagging one of this year’s “toms”.
The shooting was not so fast or furious, but was truly
competitive… this observer reported seeing more multiple
knock-outs than in years’ past… Mother Nature threw some
frigid temperatures their way, but those who shot well
(sometimes more lucky than good… wink, wink) were
rewarded…
Feedback overheard from the hunters in attendance was all
positive – with all commenting that they had a terrific time and
can’t wait until next season!
Congratulations to all the Naperville Turkey hunters!
