Coughlan Tomas Telnovas On Wednesday 1st October, we were given the unique opportunity to visit the concentration camp of Auschwitz, Poland. As part of the holocaust educational trust, we witnessed the camps as they would’ve been during the nazi regime. The experience had a profound effect on my understanding of the Jewish people, as well as people from various backgrounds who also suffered. This has inspired me to share my newfound knowledge on the lessons of discrimination and prejudice with the people around me. We had the privilege of celebrating the success in the Kadwa Patidar Centre in Harrow. Each year, it is a pleasure to see the staff, governors and guests meet with parents, to celebrate everyone’s amazing talents. This includes our current students and those who have recently left for university, gap years and the entered world of work. We welcomed Mr and Mrs Mizen to present the prizes and certificates to our pupils. Prize Night was an opportunity for honoured parents and relatives to truly acknowledge the hard work and talents demonstrated by their children consistently throughout the year. Teachers congratulate students who have made significant academic progress in their subjects and those who have made the greatest effort in all subjects taken. Prize Night is exciting because it gives St Gregory’s GCSE and A Level students a chance to chat with their teachers and enjoy the reunion with friends. As always, the Head Boy Adam Ismail and Head Girl Alberta Nika, gave heart-warming speeches and thanked the guest speakers. The guest speakers, Mr and Mrs Mizen gave remarkable speeches that touched everyone in the room. The last words of Mrs Mizen were, “don’t give up on God, because he won’t give up on you.” This was a spectacular end to the Prize Night Ceremony. 20 Community Service A lot of the work that we have done this year has been with St. Luke’s Hospice and St Vincent De Paul Society. Mr. Cullen a sixth form tutor, has organised for us to take part in various soup kitchens, charity Christmas fairs and generally encouraged us to raise money for charities. We were honoured to be a part of the team that has made a difference and are excited to continue to do so as the team at St. Luke’s hospice has invited us back time after time to help with their fund raising. Furthermore, individually the students in sixth form have taken it upon themselves to organise fundraising days to help out specific causes. One of our students, Javelle Gerald, has done exceptionally well in organising charity events such as ‘Wear it Pink’ day in which she collected over £500 for Cancer Research. We also raised money for Save the Children day where the students in sixth form paid to wear Christmas jumpers which got us into the festive mood as well as serving a good cause. More leaders of the sixth form have begun raising money for their chosen causes too. For example Angela Utubor has chosen the ‘International Justice Mission’ charity which is towards helping to stop human trafficking in developing countries. Rose-Anna Pearce and Angela are volunteering their time to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. February 6th was ‘wear it red’ day where students in the sixth form wore red and raised money for this deserving cause. We have contributed to the National Food Bank with one member of sixth form, Shauna Mc Gee, being the driving force behind this. Students in our sixth form have collected from the rest of the school different canned foods and items that could use for the organisation. We all have really enjoyed taking part in these well deserved causes and worked together as a team to raise as much money as we could to help. Following feedback from pupils across the school, they have introduced new recycling bins around the playground for empty plastic bottles; purchased reusable water bottles for all Y7 pupils and are soon to launch a trial scheme to help reduce chewing gum litter around the school. In addition, supported by A Level Geography students they have organised a whole-school energy awareness campaign. A summary of the Key Stage 3 teacher assessment data in 2014 for core subjects follows: KS3 exam results We are extremely proud of the achievements made by all of our pupils at the end of Key Stage 4. Over the past six years, results at Key Stage 4 have risen markedly and all major performance indicators are well above the local and national averages.
