This was the biggest event so far with 9 schools and over 100 year 6 pupils taking part. Year 9 proved invaluable in helping with the running of the event, welcoming our visitors, marking pupil’s answers and keeping a running total of their results and generally being excellent ambassadors for St. Gregory’s. To quote our quiz master Douglas Buchanan, “I was very impressed with the markers especially the way they used their initiative. The scorers did a sterling task and did not panic even when there was a slight technical hitch”. This year competition was hotly contested with each school received a prize for their best team. The overall winners of this year’s competition were St. Robert Southwell School. “Mathematics may not teach us about how to add love or how to minus hate but it gives us every reason to hope that every problem has a solution.” Year 7 Bryan Alvares Jonathan Rodriguez Sofia Magpuyo Ciara Brady Angelica Torres Nicolas Nicolaou Rhea Roderigues Allan Joseph Danielle Villamater Dias Wiktoria Wator Mateuz Swist Gabriel Nieczwtailow Kareena Fernandes Joshua Lopes Martyna Kostecka Calvin Naidu Rafaela Darbin Kevin Chawey Nartey Siobhan McConnon Year 9 Du Jeanaye Louisy Julienne Mark Zucker Jasmine Farquharson Kevin Hidri Jasmine Camacho George Ndoeka Dominic Miranda Daniel Sritharan Jade Belgrave Robert Szewczyk Deonte Brown Patrick Calimlim Richard Figah Adam McCarthy Andrew Perez Garcia Dentae Brown Kevin De Silva Esther Tettey Melri D’souza Chilca Ononye Year 8 Laura Andrawos Denver D’Silva Killian O’Kane Kacey Connery Katrinna Amores Nicole Pietrucha Nathan Simei-cunningham Szymon Pelc Alejandra Cabico Tamondong Anesley Gnanapiragasam Nethan Milambo Magdalena Pepek Curtis Adjei Gilchrist Lopes Year 10 Analise Dias Brandon O’Carroll Stanley Earls Alannah McGrath Ellis Belazka Peter Cartwright Nicky DarrouxHenry Sophia DeAraujo Shuell DeSouza Alexis Ampomah Kacper Strzala Philip Enyimayew Nadia Harry Shren Soosaipillai Niall O’Sullivan Blaze Dias Arminta Fiskozaite Maks Galas Nathnael Musie Clefy D’Sa Jerrel Zapanta Lorcan O’Kane Shaniah Dacosta Orla Moylelette Mylan D’Souza Winta Gdey Wiktar Ziolo Kamil Krynski Aleksander Kaminski Katherine Burela Daniel Mrowea Molly Collins Patricia Amores Caroline Sia Andrei Andrian Rebecca Worger Frisky Fernandes Sean Anderson Aleksandra Herdzik Alex Moreno Rivera Liam Friday Swizlyn Fernandes Guillaume Canarapen Natalia Skalska ‘I do believe something very magical can happen when you read a good book.’- J.k Rowling Religious Education Year 7: Joshua Lopes Tiago Dias Sofia Magpayo Thomas Arnold Raphael Taligatos Joseph Lucas Premek Krolik Darrel Djomo Aristote Momavuli Shaun Simgy Marcus Angeline David Pender Bongin Ronalwolder Year 9: Timi Akinola Joe Assad Robert Griffin Jasmine Farquharasan Gail Lopes Arshad Sohomow Wiktoria Piwowarczyk Weronika Buczek Cimona Rodrigues Shivana Ahluwalia Sara Tanoh Daniel McGarry Prezmyslaw Kaliciecki Year 8: Szczepan Stawarz Marlena Kusiak Killian O’Kane Laura Andrawos Morrison Jeradruban Fiona Pereira Andreea Simian Stacy Ann Johnson Iuliana Clipa Brooklyn Mendes Amelia Palega Ellanett Passos Lorcan O’Kane Year 10: Jonathan Braganca Jorja Vidal Faid Salmoon Katie Harding Alexander Rodgers Jemima Dua Darren Anthony Kasey Beaumont Georgia Yamoah Harriet Chintoh Aleksandra Herdzik Victor Ogueri Reece Letang “The purpose of religion is to control yourself, not to criticise others.” History Year 7 Kanisha Ananthan Joseph Lucas Quinn McGrath Przemek Krolik Fabiola Silviera Michael Dodds Anthony Nolan Tayden Mouro Rafaela Darbin Year 9 George Ndoeka Elgi Mbete Valentina Rodrigues Filip Woloszyk Melvi D’Souza Worthy Clever-Egbe Obachi Ononye Yasmin Adewusi Brenden Alvores Year 8 Luke Robbins Talia Joseph Palmer Aoife Cronin Emma Owens Jesse Diluakidi Ngeleka Kevin Kodduruarchchige Paul Awuzudike Orla Moylette Lorcan O’Kane Year 10 Analise Dias Daniel Silva Jake Crump Elizabeth Coughlan Renee Bourne Jonathan Braganca “Our ignorance of history causes us to slander our own times.” Year 7 Martin Corcoran Daneera De Souza Julia Herman Loinnear O’Neill Carl Geron Raul Garcia Ahluwalia Regan De Araujo Kieran Williams Dover Godson Manitou Quinn McGrath Kuba Rapinczuk Amelia Sowik Year 9 Ritchie Kambamba Adriano Babici Gilbert Laloku Chika Ononye Guste Klimasauskaite Robert Szewczyk Helena Lawlor Michael Thomas Emily Bourke Year 8 Year 10 Nelson Akinbobola Laura Andrawos Rio Fernandes James Sritharan Killian O’Kane Oliwia Grabarczyk Lorcan O'Kane Nicole Pietrucha Andrisha Pelman Alejandra Cabico-T Marlena Kusiak Szczepan Stawarz Chloe Bassi Aoife Cronin Sacha John Baptiste Shuell De Souza Christelle Manuel Alannah McGrath Jacub Przewozniczuk Shania Graham Alki Neli Kacper Lewandowski Gui Movio If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you. Viewing all 3 theatres that are within the National building and a chance to see what goes on behind the stage curtain. The tour was finished off by watching Chiwetel Ejiofor (Twelve Years a Slave) rehearsing his role for his upcoming play Everyman at the National. “Great theatre is about challenging how we think and encouraging us to fantasise about a world we aspire to” - Williem Deafoe Sports Day 2015 Year 7 & 8 2015 RECORD BREAKERS EVENTS HOUSE TIME/ DISTANCE 4x100m (Y7 Boys) Mary 59.28s 4x100m (Y7 Girls) Benedicte 1.02.10s Javelin (Y7 Girls) NAME Skye Morgan-Burgher Benedicte 14.52m Football Throw (Y7 Girls) Chinenye Ikpechukwu Mary 15.78m 200m (Y8 Boys) Femi Akindodola Benedicte 26.06s Long Jump (Y8 Boys) Felix Amoah Hume Rounders Ball (Y8 Girls) Alejandra Cabico Augustine 40.85m Long jump (Y8 Girls) Candice John-Baptiste Joseph 5.06m 4.10m Sports day 2015 was a momentous occasion. The atmosphere at sports day was phenomenal. Everyone showed their house pride by wearing their colours and there was an amazing sense of community. Great sportsmanship was shown throughout the day. Many records were broken this year which is a testament to the incredible talent of the athletes in our school. Records that stood for years were smashed in a number of track and field events. We all enjoyed and participated in events and the friendly competitiveness of the houses was full of tension but also camaraderie. We persevered against the extreme heat and even those in the stands showed their constant support. Year after year, we continue this great tradition with the help of the wonderful staff in our school. Students of all ages came to compete and this year the 3 year winning streak of Hume house was broken and Joseph house who were victorious. This was a very memorable occasion and hopefully, next year we can see the same standards of determination, sportsmanship and honour in our new pupils. And for the following who qualified to represent Brent at the Middlesex Championships: Alannah McGrath – hammer; Brittney-Anne Wiggan -100m; Rahmel Thompson-Hinds – shot; Felix Amoah – 100m and Jakub Lasia – 800m. Year 8 Girls’ Brent Football Finals This was a hugely popular event held at JFS on Weds 13th May. We had two very strong teams contesting in the competition. Both teams worked exceptionally hard and their efforts were rewarded with both teams reaching the finals. In a keenly and highly contested fought battle, both teams performed with aplomb. The game went to extra time and then penalties. The A team won by the skin of their teeth winning by one penalty! Year 11 Boys Football Finals The Year 11 Boys Football team had a fantastic season which culminated in them winning the Brent Cup and making the semi-finals of the Middlesex Cup losing out to St. Ignatius after being 3-1 up with 10 minutes to go! Captained by our MVP Liam Evans, who had a magnificent campaign the team shook off the defeat and went on to beat QPCS in the final of the Brent Cup. Player of the Season, Simon Sebhat slotted home the decisive goal. The Years 9 & 10 Eco Committee worked extremely hard to ensure the school was ready for its Green Flag inspection in March. Their hard work paid off as St Gregory’s was awarded the Eco Schools Green Flag for the second time running. St Gregory’s is the only school in Brent with a Green Flag and one of only five state secondary schools in London with the award. In addition to running campaigns encouraging the school community to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, the Eco Committee introduced a chewing gum recycling scheme to reduce gum litter around the school.
