Scarlet Thread Women’s Group
ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA
In 2005 we were contacted by Lena Shevchenko about
helping re-establish a women’s quilting group from one of
the local churches. These ladies made 28 quilts for the children of Beslan after the school shooting in 2004. They
needed funding to get started again and wondered if we
would help. We had been praying for God to show us how to equip
and grow our work through the women of the Russian church. This was
an answer to our prayer.
CASMI gave these wonderful ladies new
sewing machines, quilting supplies and fabrics.
They meet once a
week, for a time of wonderful fellowship, prayer for one another as
well as a productive time of quilting. Because of the rising cost of housing in St. Petersburg they may soon need to find a new location. The
current leader, Lena and her husband are preparing to move to Chehia
as missionaries. Pray that God will bring a new leader to this group
when Lena moves.

During our mission trip in
2006 we added a special
night of fellowship with
these ladies. We decided
to serve them tacos and
teach them a fun quilt project. Eighteen ladies came
and we all had a wonderful
time together. The men
cooked the tacos and now
that is the official menu of
our events.
They loved
them - have you ever had a
taco with cabbage? These
ladies and this event inspired CASMI to found The
Master’s Seminar.
