DC Report What a busy couple of months it has been for Huon Pony Club!! The Royal Hobart Show and Huon Shows are both behind us for another year. And don’t we have a lot to be proud of. The Hobart Show was a truly team day with Huon coming 1st (Tam, Hailey and Georgia) 3rd (Sasha, Esther and Keryn) and 4th (Laura, Loren and Sophie) in the Team of Threes. An outstanding achievement for riders, horses, and the amazing support team of coaches, (Karen and Wendy), brow band makers, (Lisa), plaiters (Lauren.H), and general helpers. A huge effort getting 9 horses and riders onto the arena looking amazing by 8.15 am, (with rain persistent on and off). The day was a challenge weather wise but everyone did their best to push through against the odds. Huon were also bestowed the “Best Presented Pony Club” at Grand Parade, Well Done Everyone!! The Huon Show was also a very successful day for Huon Riders, both Hacking and Show Jumping. Just recently, after enduring many highs and lows, I was chatting to one rider about her determination and how I may have thought about giving up……she said to me – GIVING UP IS NOT AN OPTION, this is a testament not only to her but to many of the riders in our club who put so much effort into this sport that they love so much. As riders you don’t just train once a week and take to a court or pitch for a 40 min game once a week. Its endless hours in the saddle and out, cleaning, feeding, fencing, etc etc. I am so proud of the effort that goes into the riders that represent our club – keep up the great work! ODE’S Once again I am just amazed at the riders from Huon out there competing at One Day Events, with our entries hovering around 24. Congratulations to Lily Ellis and Verity Reid for participating in their first ODE. We have a large number entered for the Huntingfield ODE this Sunday. Please remember if you need to scratch please let me know (by phone) as soon as you can. TRIALS JUMP As most people would be aware we are building a jump for the Pony Club State Trials in March 2014. This is a big undertaking, but exciting for our club to be well represented in this way. The cross country phase of Trials will be held at Monmouth PC and the jump we build will stay there permanently, (for us to enjoy every time we go there). We will be having a working bee at our next rally so please come prepared to paint. We need lots of brown paint for our apple creates, red for the apple and some yellow and green for trim. If you are able to donate any paint that would be great, please let me know asap. Christmas Rally Our Christmas Rally will be held on the 15th Dec at our grounds. Christmas decortations a must for horse and rider, with some prizes given out on the day for best dressed up! Lots of fun to be had. More info to come about lunch. See you soon DC Brouwer 3 Upcoming Events Copyright Photos Just a reminder to everyone about the protocols when using photos from an official photography at events, competitions, etc: Make sure you do not use the photos unless you have paid for them or have permission to share them, because you could be fined. So respect the photographers because we need to support them for taking such wonderful photos, otherwise they might not come at all! ☺ Horse Facts 1. Huon Show Clean Up On the 19th of November, Huon held the first jump club as a qualifying competition for riders wishing to compete at the State Show Jumping Championships. It was a very successful and fun afternoon, allowing riders to compete at their chosen heights. A big thanks to Camille Velnaar, Karen Heiermann and Gaylene Brouwer for making it possible to run this competition. Jump Club will now be held every Tuesday at our grounds with rounds starting at 6pm at any heights that you wish to jump (starting as low as pole on the ground). It would be much appreciated if you could help set up the course at 5:30pm. This is an excellent way for horses and riders to practice their show jumping skills and prepare for events and competition. Hope to see you all there! Many hands really do make light work! Well done to everyone who turned up with gloves and plastic bags the day after the Huon Show to clean up the grounds. A huge amount of Huon members (riders, parents and friends) came to help and this shows the incredible dedication towards our club. It was definitely worth it for the icy poles! 5 Classifieds Verity Reid V 12 Cross Country Lockey 17 Lockster Standing with his front legs crossed over! Amanda Ross Amanda has been a top level eventing rider in Australia, twice reserve for the World Equestrian Games in 1998 & 2010, as well as representing Australia in the Individual Three Day Event at the Sydney Olympics. A few years of competing up to Inter 1 dressage offered her some insightful appreciation of 'the finer details of the boring part of eventing', so much that Amanda even qualified as an NCAS level 2 eventing and dressage specialist coach! She has worked as a coach since 1997, and thoroughly enjoys training dedicated equestrians & their horses. Amanda is seen as the ‘baby’ of the eventing world, competing in the Olympics at the age of 26! Amanda currently has several horses, including William, Forest and Hammer. 7 Reminders When you get to pony club: 1. Go to the shed and sign in 2. Fill out your name tag 3.
