My Business: We manage investment assets for individuals, families, retirement plans, trusts and endowments. We are fiduciary advisers, meaning we act solely in our clients’ best interests, are conflict-free and transparent. The members of our team are client-focused, highly educated and have a depth and breadth of expertise in business, finance and law. Tools of the Trade: A sharp mind that is capable of both analytical and creative thinking, effective communication and counseling skills and teammates who are extremely competent, of the highest integrity and have a good sense of humor. Best Business Advice I Ever Received: “Spend your time with people who lift you up.” – My dad and a blueprint to get there, matching talent and skills with needs and opportunity, setting realistic goals, monitoring progress and rewarding results, maintaining respectful communication and negotiation and having plenty of laughs and good times along the way. I Lead By: Defining a vision sPECIAL ADVERTISING SECTION 109 Lise Marshall Dr. Angela Britt Georgia Ports Authority gaports.com Exceptional Dentistry of the Golden Isles 912.264.5550 EXDentistry.com Women Business Women Business in in My Mission: As Senior Director of Human Resources, I make sure that the Georgia Ports Authority is one of the greatest places to work. Our employees are our No. 1 asset; they truly are the heart of the GPA. Tools of the Trade: My wonderful assistant, Tim, and my great team (I can’t do it without them), the support and love from my parents and the greatest sister anyone could ever have and my acupuncturist, Sandy Baughman. 110 sPECIAL ADVERTISING SECTION I Lead By: I value and appreciate my career, and I truly love what I do. I want those around me to feel the same way. We all work hard, but we all remember to also have fun and smile. Words of Wisdom to Other Women in Business: If you believe in yourself, get an education, work hard, and have respect for one another, you will succeed in whatever you do. Also, “Nothing in life is so difficult that you can’t make it easier by the way you deal with it.” – Ellen Glasgow My Strengths: I have a strong work ethic, integrity, and I’m upfront with no surprises. My Mission: To treat each of our patients with personalized care. As a cosmetic and restorative dental practice, we change smiles and lives. We combine our aesthetic and technical skills to create a smile that expresses the best our patients can be while promoting healthy, greatlooking teeth and gums. My Business: The spa-like environment of our officestudio – in Brunswick off I-95 at the Golden Isles Parkway – was designed to promote the ultimate in health, relaxation, comfort and confidence. Our dental services include non-surgical facelifts, smile makeovers, facelift dentures, TMJ therapy and sedation dentistry. Tools of the Trade: Our awesome team, which is committed to educating patients on the relationship between maintaining exceptional oral hygiene and overall physical health; artistic skill and aesthetic sensibilities to create beautiful smiles; and the latest technology, such as laser and cosmetic dentistry. On a Typical Day: When a patient’s “trial smile” is complete, I hand them a mirror. Seeing my patients smile, hearing them exclaim, “WOW!” and sometimes seeing their tears of joy is the most rewarding part of my career. I love knowing that I can help make a positive, life-changing difference . I Lead By: Empathy, compassion, understanding and empowerment. I am honored to be one of 346 dentists globally to be accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the world’s largest dental organization devoted to cosmetic dentistry, and a fellow with the Las Vegas Institute of Advanced Dental Studies. sPECIAL ADVERTISING SECTION 111 Celia Dunn Sotheby’s International Realty Sandy Benson Custom Audio Video 843.815.5130 custom-audio-video.com 912.234.3323 celiadunnsir.com Women Business in Our Mission: To provide complete customer satisfaction. From the time they enter the front doors until they leave, we take the time to demonstrate and explain new technologies, their integration and benefits. 112 sPECIAL ADVERTISING SECTION One Thing I’ve Learned the Hard Way: You really can’t sweat the small stuff. At times, I have micromanaged my company only to find productivity and efficiency decline. All our employees are dedicated to their positions, and I have had to learn to let go and allow them the freedom to do their jobs with integrity, creativity and pride. My Strengths: They have changed from year to year. During the last several years, my dedication and resilience have risen to the forefront. This economy has been extremely difficult for everyone, but particularly small-business owners. So, surviving – and now flourishing in this economy is an accomplishment for the entire team of CAV. Words of Wisdom to Other Women in Business: Don’t give up and never give in! Although we would like to think things have changed, it’s still a man’s world, and acceptance of a woman is not easily obtained. We just have to push through and move forward with self confidence and determination. Mission Statement: At the heart of Celia Dunn Sotheby’s International Realty is the solid foundation for outstanding service to our clients. We strive to put the client first always and give the highest degree of service. The relationship with our client is a long-term commitment – not just for the current purchase or sale. Best Advice: Integrity is of utmost importance. Always take the honorable path and do what you say you are going to do. Integrity and gaining the trust of your client is imperative. This is what separates Celia Dunn Sotheby’s International Realty. Words of Wisdom: One thing we have all discovered early in the real estate profession is never assume anything. Be flexible and be prepared to adapt to all unexpected situations. It is important to remain in control of the situation, giving confidence to your client. Tools of the Trade: If someone were to ask a Realtor what three things they couldn’t live without, the answer would be a Smartphone, a laptop computer with a good battery and a clean car with an air conditioner and a GPS! Power Suit: With not enough hours in a day, women are being pulled in so many directions at once and wear so many different hats. Given that, what woman wouldn’t feel in control being able to conduct business at home, in her comfy clothes, in front of her computer without makeup! sPECIAL ADVERTISING SECTION 113 Senea Crystal The Coastal Bank Savannah Mall 912.927.7467 savannahmall.com The Coastal Bank 912.201.7377 thecoastalbank.com Eat It and Like It 912.844.6050 eatitandlikeit.com Women Business in sdfasdf in My Business: By day, I’m the full-time marketing director at Savannah Mall, working in the trenches with some of Savannah’s most dynamic retailers. After hours, I’m a full-time partner in Eat It and Like It, a company that creates a TV show with the same name and its companion website, eatitandlikeit.com. Women Business Best Business Advice I Ever Received: “Starting a company is like jumping off a cliff and assembling the parts of an airplane on the way down.” I laughed when I read it—but unless you’ve started your own company, you are absolutely unaware. Days don’t have enough hours. It’s all a leap of faith. 114 sPECIAL ADVERTISING SECTION On a Typical Day: I wrap up my day job, run home, walk Patsy Cline (my dog) and run, bike or swim in triathlon practice. I work in the evenings on Eat It and Like It. On weekends, I’m up early for Team in Training, preparing for a number of triathlons and raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. You’d Never Guess: I’m a classically trained concert pianist and spent 10 years as a Top 40 station radio personality. Although I am a partner in Eat It and Like It, I don’t cook at all—and don’t want to. Why cook when you can sample food from great restaurants or have others cook for you? Why Launch a New Business in a Tough Economy? A good idea is a good idea, even in tough times. Just as I know retail establishments will thrive again, I know people eat and celebrate despite the economy. Through Eat It and Like It, I can act on those opportunities. Watch our show Sunday mornings and then shop Savannah Mall! Above all, we want to do what is in our customer’s best interest. We do this by educating our customers about loan programs so that our borrowers understand their mortgage. Best Business Advice We Ever Received: Mortgage lending is an ever changing business. Learn your trade well so that if the market changes, you can focus all of your energy on a new way to deliver to your customer. When foreclosures had 116 sPECIAL ADVERTISING SECTION over-ridden the real estate market, Fidelity Bank brought on three Renovation and Rehabilitation loan programs. These loans help to rehabilitate subdivisions and neighborhoods and are now available to the homebuyers of Savannah. Being one of the only banks in Georgia to offer the HomeStyle, HomePath and 203k Streamline, Fidelity Bank Mortgage is leading the way to successful home renovations. These loans truly offer an opportunity to turn a house into a dream home. One Thing We’ve Learned the Hard Way: We have personally and professionally found that it is crucial to anticipate the unexpected. It is of the utmost importance to get our client to a speedy closing, so if we see a potential red flag during the underwriting process, we address it. As wives, mothers and athletes, we know that life does not stop when you purchase a home. We use an in-house approach to underwrite, process and close so that our clients can continue with the important roles in their lives. Words of Wisdom to Other Women in Business: The Golden Rule is the foundation of Fidelity Bank’s business. Our clients and partners recognize the integrity with which we provide our service. As a team, we continually ask ourselves, “How do we want people to remember us?” An impression that lasts for years because of a job well done is the best compliment we can receive. Women in Business My Mission: I take a proactive and preventive approach to wellness, providing my patients with more than just treatment for basic health issues. We are living longer, but we all want to age better. Fortunately, with all the advances in medicine, we can better face—and fight—the symptoms of aging. My Business: By using the latest in anti-aging medicine, our innovative and integrated medical practice helps our patients live better and longer lives. We specialize in bio-identical hormone therapy to combat the symptoms of pre-menopause, menopause and male andropause, nutrition and weight-loss plans and minimally invasive aesthetic procedures so that our patients can look as good on the outside as they feel on the inside. One Thing I’ve Learned Along the Way: You will have the greatest success if you do something you’re passionate about. I am passionate in my belief that we are living in a new age of health care, one in which we have the knowledge to live better, healthier lives. My Power Suit: Usually a pair of slacks with a nice blouse or sweater set. I spend a lot of time talking and getting to know my patients personally, and I think that if I am comfortable, they’ll feel more comfortable, too. My Strengths: I believe being a good listener makes me a better physician. I take the time to thoroughly understand a patient’s health problems, which allows me to treat them with an individualized wellness plan that goes far beyond traditional medicine for better results. sPECIAL ADVERTISING SECTION 117 Amelia Jamerson & Robin Moore Marjorie Weibe-Reed Access Design Group LLC 912.308.9410 or 904.583.7618 designing-for-life.com My Mission: My architectural and interior design firm’s mission is to help seniors, baby boomers, individuals with disabilities and multigenerational families remain in their homes by increasing safety, accessibility and comfort through universal design and aging-in-place strategies. I am passionate about having the ability to change a person’s quality of life at home through design. One Thing I’ve Learned the Hard Way: A picture is worth 1,000 words. No matter how much you discuss your plan or design with a contractor/installer, if he or she doesn’t have a sketch to accompany your discussion, you will get something completely different in the end. Women Business in Gwen G. DeWalt Four Seasons Travel 912.598.8000 fourseasonstrvl.com Women Business My Mission: To develop long-term relationships with our clients and to become indispensable when it comes to their travel planning. Some of our clients have been with us since the early ’80s! We are not in the transaction business; we are in a service business where it is vital that our clients have confidence in our ability to provide superior travel experiences, whether for business or pleasure. in My Mission: Savannah Baby Co. offers the latest and greatest in baby needs. Our customers receive our full attention from the moment they walk into the store. Even if they don’t buy from our fabulous selection they leave with a world of knowledge and a great service experience. My Business: Modern baby gear. As my mom says, “Mothers these days have it made with so many conveniences.” And we do! To be honest, though, there are some useless and less-thanstellar products on the market. We weed through them, seek out the best and bring it to Savannah. 118 sPECIAL ADVERTISING SECTION Best Business Advice I Ever Received: My Dad always advised me to hire people smarter and better than you. That’s exactly why I chose Amelia for store manager – she has a hyper focus on providing the absolute best in customer service. My Strengths: My relationship with my husband, Alex Moore. He is my mentor, best friend, adviser, legal counsel, cheerleader, co-parent, business partner and more. Having a wonderful husband has been key to my success. Words of Wisdom to Other Women in Business: Listen to all of your customers and pay attention to what they are saying. They drive the market; not you. In our conversations with customers, we take note of what they want and when it comes time to explore more products, we go back to their suggestions. Tools of the Trade: Our Virtuoso membership – a by-invitation-only organization that’s considered to be the industry’s finest luxury travel network and consists of 330 agencies throughout North and South America, the Caribbean, Australia and New Zealand. Our Real Job Description: While out in the community, people often ask: “What do you do?” On the surface, that might seem simple enough to explain, but sometimes the term “financial advisor” doesn’t really capture the heart of what we really do. Our real job description should be: “I help clients plan to succeed financially.” That really captures the core of our passion for our clients and services that we provide. Our Strengths: We understand that life is a process and change is constant, which is one of our greatest strengths. At Wells Fargo Advisors, we keep a vigilant watch on each of our clients’ investment plans and make strategic adjustments, when necessary, with the goal of maintaining a positive and consistent return on investment. What We Value the Most as Women in Business: We believe wholeheartedly in the value of our community. Without the close ties to the Savannah community we enjoy as parents, PTA members, soccer coaches and nonprofit board members, we would not fully understand what it means to celebrate our clients and appreciate the fact that they are entrusting us with their life’s savings. That is truly an outstanding honor and one that, as a firm, we genuinely hold in the highest regard. sPECIAL ADVERTISING SECTION 121 The Women of Mopper-Stapen, Realtors Shelby & Salena Frost Joker’s Joker’s 912.352.0709 912.352.0709 jokernov.com jokernov.com From left: •Monica Gelok: 912.484.2132, [email protected] • Jessica Kelly : 912.441.9101, [email protected] • Barbara Terrebonne: 912.308.4336, [email protected] • Lana Sanders : 912.507.4065, [email protected] • Mimi Mendrala: 912.656.6203, [email protected] • Fran Belloir: 912.663.4444, [email protected] Not pictured: • Kimbery Ergul: 912.398.7222, [email protected] • Andrea Re: 912.690.1608, [email protected] The Comedy Store The Comedy Store 912.353.7584 912.353.7584 comedystoreonline.com comedystoreonline.com Women Business in Women Women Business Business in in Who Owns Joker’s and The Comedy Store?
