Ptuj: Summer evenings in the second half of July (Večer) With the season-ticket it will be possible to attend 6 shows, which this year will be mostly musical This year’s Summer evening of the Society of artists and creators, organized by Ivan Brač and Franc Mlakar, will begin on July 20th with the concert of the Philharmonic orchestra of RTV Slovenia, on July 22nd will be the concert of Oto Pestner, at the 35 anniversary of his musical career, on July 25th the concert of Andrej Šifrer, on July 27th the concert of the Russian philharmonic orchestra with the soloists violinist Peter Kuhar and the opera bass singer Igor Matjuhnin. On August 2nd Tom Jurank will perform, on August 4th the evenings will be concluded by Zijah A. Sokolović with the legendary play Glumac je Glumac. The performances will be held in the minorite cloister. Parallel the chamber events will be performances on the Slovene square, Prešeren and Murko street of three groups: exhibition and creation of souvenirs, exhibition of old vehicles and street music. Three groups will be performing old urban, gipsy and Irish music. In any case the choice of events this year is significantly smaller than last year. Franc Mlakar told us:”We adapted the program to the taste of the audience in Ptuj and the financial possibilities, the municipality of Ptuj awarded us 2 million tolars, which is not enough to cover the costs of the event. The rest of the founds 7,5 million tolars will be collected with the help of sponsors and the entrance tickets.” The entrance to all the events is possible with the purchase of the season-ticket, which will cost 6000 tolars. Ptuj/ The end of Summer evenings ’99 (Večer) Variety in spite of all On August 3rd with the performance of Zijah Sokolović ended this year’s Summer evenings of the Society of artists and creators of Ptuj, which took place from July 20th. Within the Society of artists and creators of Ptuj the event was lead by Andrej Klasinc and Franc Mlakar. Their motto was: “Don’t ask what Ptuj will give you, but what you can give to Ptuj!” The visitors were most impressed by the evening with the Russian national symphonic orchestra from Moscow, with which performed as a soloist the young violinist from Maribor Peter Kuhar, who was according to many visitors the star of the evening. Even though the organizers will need some more time to estimate the whole evaluation of the event, this year’s fewer attendance (one event had to be cancelled) is also the consequence of bad weather. In addition the organization of all the summer events in Ptuj was not in harmony. One of the causes is also the heat before the election of the general manager of the economic interest association GIZ Poetovio vivat, say the Society of artists and creators of Ptuj, who met big financial problems at organizing this years’ events. The municipality budget awarded only a bit more than 2 million tolars for the summer music evenings, the rest, more than 5 million tolars had to be gained from sponsors. The municipality was only one of the major sponsors of the summer evenings ’99. But it is true that a lot can be done with good will that is why this year summer events are a kind of turning point. It is necessary to start right now to form a quality program that will have a professional basis. But professionalism needs a much bigger financial injection.
