In these articles, I will tell about different boarders each time. Sometimes, I will partner with students to interview random boarders around the barns. I hope you will enjoy these regular feature articles. This time I interviewed Janie Richards, a boarder who has been at Indian Point for one year. Everyone who knows Janie, knows her for having a 13 year old, sixteen and two hand, Draft Quarter Horse named Scout. Janie has had Scout for four years. Soon, Julieann Ellis is going to be the new and proud owner of Scout. Janie Richards recently adopted another sweetheart named Pi. Pi is a Percheron Thoroughbred and is 9 ½ years old. Just like Scout, Pi is 16 and two hands. Pi was bought November 24, 2012. Janie started riding when she was five years old. “My mother rode as a child too.” she explained. She grew up in Charlottesville. “We rode all over the countryside. It was heaven.” I asked Janie what her favorite part about being around horses was. She replied “I like everything about it, the peace and quiet and the shared companionship with the horse. I am riding with Shanna and I love learning her techniques and her style of riding. I have enjoyed working on the therapy side of horses and helping people heal. I also love playing with the horse on the ground almost as much as I do riding.” Janie and Pi, her new horse! Congratulations! D ec emb er 2012 B ar n C ha tte r Page 5 Indian Point Riding School The riding school at Indian Point teaches riders from beginner to intermediate levels, and of all ages.
