SCBA Meetings and Events
The By-Laws dictate that, among other things,
the SCBA should strive to provide opportunities for
members to interact with other members, promote
bench-bar relations, and provide legal education
programs. There are many events, meetings,
organizations, etc. that provide this opportunity for all
members. These opportunities are listed on the top
of page 3 of the Newsletter in the SCBA Calendar of
Events. We plan and fund some of these events for
the benefit of the membership and the only way the
expense and effort is profitable is by your attendance
and participation.
As the front page of this Newsletter advertises, Mill
Creek Law, located at 4220 132nd St. SE, Ste. 201,
Mill Creek, WA 98012, are gracious enough to host an
Ex Parte social event from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m on
Thursday May 26, 2016. Refreshments and snacks will
be provided and the environment is an opportunity to
meet your colleagues in informal, social environment
where conversations and interactions about anything,
not just work.
On Thursday July 28, 2016, will be our annual
SCBA night with the Aquasox. As is tradition,
member’s tickets are free and non-member tickets are
$10.00. Please RSVP with the SCBA office (425)3883056. The game starts at 7:05 p.m. with the AquaSox playing a rivalry game against the Vancouver
Canadians; it is Aloha Night Presented By Kama’aina
Grindz and if you wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt
you will be automatically qualified to win great prizes.
Bring the kids; they will be able to participate in Kids
Run the Bases Presented By Woodland Park Zoo after
the game. It is also Tasty Thursdays presented by Coors
Light with $2.00 12oz Coors Light, $2.00 Sodas, $2.00
Hot Dogs, and $2.00 Popcorn. We had a great turnout
last year of almost 50 members, friends and relatives,
and we hope to do better this year.
Another annual favorite that we organize is the
Golf Tournament—the format and the venue has been
changed and it will be held on Friday August 19, 2016
at Harbour Pointe Golf Club with a modified shotgun
start at 1:30 p.m. We hope the venue will be more
appealing to the membership the modified shotgun start
will allow everyone to start and end close to the same
time so everyone can enjoy the buffet dinner together.
Even if golf is too exasperating and frustrating for
4 Snohomish County Bar News - JUNE 2016
you, please come to the buffet dinner at 6:00 p.m. to
hear about the 300 yard drives and miraculous 30 foot
putts (or the slices and hooks depending on the level of
honesty). The entry fee for golf and dinner is $100.00.
As I mentioned in a previous column, the Annual
Dinner is on September 10, 2016 at Embassy Suites in
Lynnwood and invitations will be sent in the near future
with a deadline for reservations of August 30, 2016.
Ticket prices will remain $100 per person or $95/person
if you would like to buy a table of ten (10). If you
purchase an entire table, you or your firm will receive
recognition for your support and a placard with your
firm or individual names on that table for an advertising
cost of $150.00. This is not only a social and charitable
opportunity but a night to celebrate some in our legal
community that are doing exceptional work including
Judge of the Year (on a side note, if you have any
members of the Judiciary you would like to nominate
please contact Joyce).
Two free CLEs—I say again—CLEs that are free
with your paid membership to the SCBA, are scheduled
for September 30, 2016 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 6 credit
hours on Small Office Management and on December
2, 2016 9:00 am to 12:15 p.m. 3 ethics credits, Ethics
Smorgasbord.
Finally, your Board meets on every third Thursday
of every month, save August, to discuss issues that
concern you. You, as a member, are more than
welcome to join and participate in our discussions
and we welcome your input and perspective. Please
participate, please get involved and take advantage of
the opportunities. Thank you. 
