Open Server Based Desktop OSBD © 2009 by FOSSGroup Definition OSBD OSBD Open Server Based Desktop is an open source based client virtualization solution to serve open source and Microsoft based clients. In addition it contains subsystem functionality for identity and access management, printing and data management as well as an open source based office suite and document management. • • • • OSBD Desktop Virtualization OSBD Identity & Access Management OSBD Printing and DataManagement OSBD OpenOffice.org Management • Pure Open Source Solution • Cost free License EUPL – available on osor.eu • OSBD has been created out of different FOSS projects © 2009 by FOSSGroup Features OSBD The most important Features of OSBD: Access through Windows, Mac, Linux, Nokia 800/900 Web Client (Firefox plugin for Linux and Windows) PXE boot Sound support USB storage support Published applications Seamless Windows application support Persistent sessions Central management of Linux and Windows printing FollowMe printing Smartcard authentication Client operating system support for Linux, Windows Session control for Help Desk © 2009 by FOSSGroup Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) SSH/NX Port 80/443 OSBD Management Identity Identity Management Management SessionBroker SessionBroker WEBClient Protocols RDP & X11 Protocols RDP & X11 File & Print File & Print PXE SSH/NX Thin Client Open Office Open Office Management Management . . . . . . . . . . . . At the branch there is an appliance (BA) in place No need for administration on branch side The management of BA's is fully provided through the central MAS Branches will be updated periodically outside working time. Unlimited number of branches © 2009 by FOSSGroup OSBD Support for mobile User OSBD The standard operating system on a laptop/notebook is replaced by a Linuxbased „Mini OS“, which support the hardware and the file system. The mini OS start the imageloader. This will initiate the start of a virtual os depending end user profile (e.g. Linux or Windows). Harddisk Function File File System System Image Image Loader Loader Mini OS Mini OS For offlinefunction, the laptop is running an own mini virtualization system, similar to the VDI. The laptop holds on his file system an identical image like the images on the VDI. Attached to users network, the local image will be synchronized with the central masterimage. So images on the laptops are always up to date and do not need to be maintained seperately. © 2009 by FOSSGroup Flow Chart SessionConnection OSBD Session Broker Login Information User Information Login Login Handler Handler (Username PW Smartcard) Persistent Session LDAP Session ID Session Request Session Allocator Session Allocator Connect Cloud / Server Selection, Connect Cloud / Server Usage Information Session Storage Cloud / Serverfarm ProtocolTranslater Virtualization Linux © 2009 by FOSSGroup Roadmap OSBD OSBD Roadmap and Availability OSBD Small Business Server OpenOffice.org Management OSBD Enterprise Server Cross plattform printing incl.
